HANDWAVED CR AND MINGLE MEME
Has your character been here for a while now? Are you tired of meeting characters for the first time even though they've been actually sharing a class and/or work space for a month now? Well, here is the solution for you! The Handwaved CR Meme! Instead of stressing out trying to thread with every character you would reasonably encounter right off the bat, here is an opportunity to OOCly discuss and establish casual meetings and connections that have already happened but never had the time or need to be threaded out.

This is best used for things like characters sharing a class in the Coven, or working in the same location, or pursuing the same quests. Or maybe even being roomates! Anything where characters have been occupying the same space for the last while, but haven't had the opportunity to thread it out yet. Get those first building blocks of CR out of the way, and prepare yourself for more intense threading later.

THE RULES:

• I'm going to start off by posting some different subject headers, centered around common activities or locations I can think of. Beneath these headers, you can go ahead and post about what your character is generally doing there and the impression they may give off.
• Then, other people react! Reply to people who have posted with how your character would generally engage with their presence, and establish some nice, casual CR. Are you that loudmouth that won't stop talking over people in Evocation class? This is where people can tell you how you make them feel!
• Post your own subject headers! I'm just putting up what comes to mind, but if you have other subjects you'd like to mingle over, go ahead and make them a reality.
• These don't necessarily have to be first meetings, it can also be used to flesh out CR you've established elsewhere.

Coven Witch School

For witches (or tag along monsters) that have been learning magic with the coven. Specify classes, behaviours, routines, success with their studies, and whatever else their classmates might become familiar with.

Maria's been here, trying to get back up to where she was sort of at before! Specialties include Evocation (specifically fire), Enchantment (more fire, on her sword), and she's been working on teleportation under universal spells to try to get her Quickening ability back, or some version of it. She's a pretty quick study, so I imagine she's gaining traction pretty quickly with all of it. It's probably notable to her classmates though that she's not doing much with healing or support skills - her focus has mostly been on things that can be used to... hurt... other things.

She'll get into other (offensive) spells eventually, and might start experimenting with imbuing the spells with blood to make them more powerful.

Toby commutes in regularly and is a frequent presence in the back of classrooms, generally quiet and out of the way. She's grown a couple inches since arriving. Because of how her hands are built she struggles to use a normal pen, instead she has a transmuted object that sort of resembles a potato with a nib, and writes frequent notes in a difficult-to-comprehend shorthand.

She's smart and makes reasonable headway. Toby's biggest areas of study are support class based - abjuration, enchantment - with a good side of transmutation and a passing interest in divination, at least of the "speak to the nonverbal" variety, but she's also trying to pick up teleportation and has done at least intro to conjuration.

Toby's very willing to use her own blood in spells - it helps having native healing abilities and a high pain tolerance - and commonly puts enchantments on her blades.

This is the only class of magic Aymeric is practicing, and he practices the absolute hell out of it every day. Since he's focusing on barriers and healing, he's not shy about asking for help: he may ask people to hit him + targets with stuff, low-level magic or otherwise, and he's very willing to help other people in the same way (probably with Something In Place Of A Sword, since he has no offensive magic).

As for healing, he's been stalking around the grounds looking for practice sessions gone awry like some kind of well-meaning vulture.

He's very obviously an elf, if it's worth noting: super tall, long pointy ears. He's friendly, but straightforward, especially when it comes to practice.

Elliot arrived this month and since then has been a regular presence in class since learning magic is the best way to not die. He's strongest at Evocation (specifically water and light spells), Enchantment, and basically anything that counts as a healing spell. He struggles more with things like Alchemy, Transmutation and Illusion.

His channeling tool of choice is a metal staff that came with him when he arrived. It's got a more manufactured look than anything you'd find in the city. He's currently working on enchanting it so it'll shoot magic bubbles as a projectile weapon. It's deadlier than it sounds, promise.

All in all, Elliot is a friendly student! He's happy to talk to other people in the class and study with them. Also he's very modest and tends to undermine his own accomplishments. He's got a bit of an insane workload since he's taking all the classes at once plus working on his music stuff-- but he is pretty used to it. I wouldn't say he's top of the class unless the lessons are somehow music-oriented- but he's a strong contender.

Entrapta isn't a witch but boy does she love learning so she's definitely here some of the time!

She's more an intermittent lurker than regular attendant and doesn't really consistently attend any specific classes so much as she just sticks her head in to whatever she thinks sounds interesting that day, but she does usually ask a lot of questions, of both the tutors and the people learning to do magic. Obviously she can't do any herself, but she's VERY interested in other people's progress! It is a bit offputting!

"Linden Tailor" really sucks at healing magic and mending spells. They seem to backfire more often than they just have no effect whatsoever; it's probably a pretty common joke now that if you want to do some real damage in a fight, getting this spindly, listless young man to try to cast a healing spell will put a target in rough shape, indeed.

L's failures and successes tend to be extreme. On the other end of things is his progress in Divination; he has what could be described as a real talent for it, able to read meaning in everything from tea leaves to randomly scattered objects. Some of this might be his own intuitive nature, in addition to the magic itself, but the resulting combination is pretty striking and elegant, if so. He's gotten some positive attention and notice for this.

In addition to abjuration (poor) and divinity (excellent), he's also taking alchemy, evocation, illusion, and transmutation, supplementing with universal.

L spends a lot of time in the library, keeping absurd hours that don't seem to follow any particular timeframe. He doesn't keep to standard mealtimes and tends to get drawn into a task to the point of exhaustion, occasionally just falling asleep right where he's sitting (but never during classes.) He sits a little bit absurdly, with his knees drawn up to his chest in a crouching posture, and tends to chew and suck on his fingers when he's deep in thought. He looks both tired and kind of creepy and mostly keeps to himself. He has no bond and probably needs one, due to the intensity of his study and practice; while he's not an outgoing or particularly approachable person, if someone has offered him company in any way, whether it's a quick chat or a shared meal, he wouldn't decline, and would in fact seem surprised and kind of grateful for it.

As far as the content of surface-level conversations, he claims that his name is Linden Tailor and that he was a student of criminal justice in his own world, interested in a law enforcement career. He would be open about the fact that he's currently working at Runetchers. He would express that his eventual ambition is to work for Parliament once his magic skills are more developed. Anything further and I don't think I could comfortably call it handwaved CR!

wwx is studying enchantment and evocation and his favorite spell to mess around with right now is using vines to slow down his enemies and as restraints. listen, he's got to protect himself somehow. he casts majority of his spells through the use of his flute, songs + magic.. it's lit! he also brings either luo binghe (xinmo) or san lang (hua cheng) (flowercity) with him for practice since they're mostly who he trains with when at home. know that if you talk to wwx, he's probably bringing you over to meet these two idiots who stand to the side and try to look cool... they're lame... please these are his buddies. so they're going to be with him every so often! he's definitely a class clown so he's loud and asks all the dumb questions the teacher doesn't want to answer and stuff, he's just there to give everyone a good laugh.

Re: Coven Witch School

The SQUIP has been focusing on divination and enchantment, specifically charming and mindreading; it's pretty good at it, so far. It already has a built in ability to predict future outcomes, so it may pair that with divination to come to some interesting conclusions, or to possibly seem better at mindreading and divination than it truly is.

It's been socializing as much as it can, as well; it's trying to grow its social network as quickly as possible. Not in, like, a friendly, bubbly kind of way, but it will strike up conversation with classmates, showboat its skills for people at every chance it gets, try its hand at some subtle setting up for future manipulation, etc.

If you wanna plot out an outcome it's predicted and manipulated things towards involving your character, let me know!!!

Primarily, it's just been asking questions and gathering data. It's focused on the mirror house, but it does just want to learn the social landscape here in general.

Zelda is at the Coven at least four out of seven days of the week, and honestly probably spends more time there than that because what the fuck is a hobby, sounds like something that will get in the way of Getting Stuff Done.

The formal classes she attends right now are Divination, Illusion, Abjuration, and Evocation; she's not gonna turn her nose up at picking up a thing or two from the other schools of magic, but those are the ones she's primarily interested in. Of note she is absolutely that asshole in class that won't stop asking questions, and she shows a definite interest in the theory behind aef-verse magic beyond just the practice of it. How absolute are events foretold by divination? How is it that mid-level healing falls under Abjuration but higher levels fall under Evocation? How well can you apply the theory you learn from one school to another? All sorts of nonsense like that.

She's basically a homeschool kid okay she doesn't know how big classes work.

She is Very Studious, and is generally more likely to keep to herself than go out of her way to socialize with others. However, if she sees someone actively practicing their magic, she might ask to join them, or offer tips if she feels like she can help. She's nice and polite, if kinda awkward and overly formal a lot of time. She's learning how to people, be gentle.

Konoe has been taking a fair amount of classes, mostly focusing on abjuration and conjuration, some divination, and universal classes just to keep in touch with other fields. He hasn't done much in the way of enchantment but is picking up that slack now, because his friend got cwyld-infected and he feels responsible, so he's been focusing more on anything and everything that can protect. On a more personal note: he's been working on "homing spells" just to find his way... around the city...... because he has no sense of direction. Don't you dare call him out on that. But do feel free to catch him casually following a ball of light that shows him the way through the city after he gets lost, I guess. Eventually he'll also be able to use this magic for finding more generic things like "the nearest food" or "this specific flower" when he doesn't know its exact location, but that's for the future: for now, he really needs to have a specific location in mind.
Konoe is not a great student, but not a terrible one either. He only takes a few notes, being Not Great at the writing thing just for lack of practice back home. (He's definitely been making up for that here, though!) Konoe does better learning from practice than from books, which is why he likes immediately following up classes with a casual practice session with a classmate or two. It's just the best way to make things stick!

Caster is showing around all kinds of classes at random, but there are two subjects he is a regular and even diligent student of. Specialization being Evocation (specifically fire, but he does dabble in other elements too), Enchantment (for adding effects- like setting a weapon on fire! But also the self-enchantments temporarily boosting one's speed, strength, etc). He's more than happy to offer a helping hand.

Caster generally might not be the most regular student on lectures, but he can be seen around Coven a lot often at weird hours. Even in the library, as runes are of his interest. He can be seen bringing things like old nursery rhymes books and comparing them with magical tomes for some reason...

Starting from around 19th May he also comes equipped with well-prepared lunches, that can remind someone of Japanese bento, only made with local ingredient. He is absolutely willing to share and chat.

tori has been attending all classes EXCEPT transmutation and alchemy, because they're not on his radar, but has been specifically studying things to do with healing and plants... so classes that have higher levels in healing is something he's also been studying in!!!

the sort of student he is is pretty much teacher's pet, he likes to be on their good side and uses his cute face to try and get the better deal off of things, but in classes this doesn't work he is actually a hard worker... he's the type of person to offer his assistance to others in a condescending manner, very "you'd better be grateful" sort of attitude, but his help Is actually helpful. likes to doodle various things in class and tends to complain about workloads when the teacher isn't around.

other than that!!! tori!!! actually works as an intern at the coven infirmary!!! if your character's a frequent visitor, or has had a particularly bad time, then he's been there! he's more of a shadow than an actual nurse, but he can do enough minor healing that he's been tasked to take care of smaller incidents and often acts as the person who checks in on others, that kind of thing

Archer is often seen in the library, researching Cwyld and local lore. Since he's a monster he's not taking part in lessons. On additional note he's bringing lunches that resemble bento and are identical with Caster's. Despite his rbf he can be quite friendly (if you don't mind snark) and shares food.

Majima hates being without his old abilities, so he's been going hard in Enchantment and Evocation ( more the former), combining them with his part-time work at Runetchers to work on a way to recreate them. One might find him studying hard, drawing temporary patterns on his skin -- especially now that he's bonded with another witch and needs to burn magic.

He looks like the last person to spend his spare time hitting the books, but he's actually a deceptively quick study, with secondary interests in Abjuration, Conjuration, and Transmutation. He keeps trying to transform into various birds, though he seems pretty unsatisfied with the ones he's managed so far (most notably, a giant chicken).

If a classmate asks, he's unusually adept at enhancing physical attributes, such as strength and speed, though he seems reluctant to cast anything longer-lasting on those who don't have prior combat experience.

Re: Coven Witch School

Harry started out working on divination, with defense and offense as his secondaries, but did a sharp left turn recently, and has begun working on medical and healing magics and herbs as much as possible.

He can be found at the coven a lot, studying as much as he can, and at any other place where he can find people willing to show him, or tell him, of healing in the city.

Greyjay is working hard in this job. He's not terrible to work with, so that's good, and he's clearly got some experience with the job. He can slice, dice, julienne, and mince! (And bottle, brew, stopper, etc.) With that said, he is very upfront with the fact that he's doing this for as long as it takes to get his footing the new world, and then he's heading out.

He's a Professional, but will gladly chat a bit while working. Any questions your character might ask will get a very (sometimes unpleasantly) honest answer.

...and he's good at making poisons. You know, for reasons. (Mostly for pest control. He's pretty sure the local shop doesn't specialize in murder.)

Now that we're all sharing a neighbourhood together, you've probably been seen around the Haven. Do you interact with your neighbours at all? Have you done something terrible to your property? Is you lawn an eyesore? So you stay up late making noise that everyone living around you can hear? Establish some neighbourhood friends or enemies.

She's started a sunflower garden in the garden of her house! And some other plants, but she'll have a huge sunflower patch before long, and might expand it out as much as possible.

Also, she'll be buying a horse soon. Why yes, it will be a blood bay horse.

Making a Scene

Are YOU making a scene? This one is pretty general, but basically if your character has been doing anything worrying, obnoxious, or just highly visible in public places, and you want to make it known, tell everyone about it here. People can observe and have opinions about you. Or maybe they will even try to interfere.

The first group of arrivals is more than welcome to remember Lady Maria as the one that was about to draw her sword and run down Mhairi with it like five minutes after they arrived because she has kind of a visceral reaction to werewolves. She has yet to posture or threaten Mhairi since then, but anyone can notice she doesn't particularly seem very comfortable around Monsters in general. RIP because she lives with three of them.

Also just recently, she was fighting the Leviathan in the nightmare, and got splattered by it half a dozen or more times (however many times y'all wanna say) in an attempt to kill it to bring an end to the nightmare, because she was in Bloodborne mode, and how Bloodborne works with dreams and nightmares and giant creatures that cause them.

Also she's like 6'6"+ and has one of the most intimidating presences of anyone here, so she tends to draw a little attention wherever she goes. Especially since she's not entirely comfortable with the Monsters still.

General SQUIP behavior and info

The squip has been trying to fit in the best it can, though it makes no effort to hide what it is and what it does, if asked. It introduces itself as what it is-- a SQUIP, and will correct anyone who assumes that's a name and not its title. It's an object, not a person, and it will be the first to tell you that.

It may also mention, in conjunction, its user, or just the name Jeremy. Your character may or may not have gotten the context on who that is or his significance to the squip yet.

except at the infirmary. he'll just bitch at you if you're a frequent visitor, like please stop getting hurt it's tiring seeing your face here all the time (more teasingly at friends/people he'd get along with) don't you have something better to do than get checked in to see his cute face etc etc

um... he's been aiming to help with parliament things, and he very notably goes to visit mhairi at least once or twice a week if she isn't too busy!! if asked, tori says it's for tea

thank you for this meme, I'm a mostly weekend-only tagger so this is super helpful aaa...here's some info on my girl for anyone who would like to assume some basic "hey I know your face" CR with her!

In general, Minako is easily tired and sleeps a lot, so she's pretty scarce around town compared to others. However, here's some places that she's usually available at!

Magic Classes: Currently focused on abjuration, divination, enchantment, and transmutation the most.

Coven: Helps out in the infirmary frequently, cheering up the patients and doing some basic intern things.

Haven: Lives with her castmates in a huge mansion and can often be seen hanging around the area. She used to have a dog, but it remains to be seen if she still has one after the recent event log :v

Quests/Working in the City: Minako goes on as many low level quests as she can handle, but hasn't found a part time job she likes yet. The aforementioned dog was on mail delivery before the event log.

Making a Scene: She's not making much of one, but she is (somewhat unknowingly?) a carrier of a flower disease, if anyone wants to jump onto that. She's also figuring out the logistics of starting a bento box lunch service for questers/adventurers.

I can be found at raynestorm for more plotting or anything else, really <3 I'd also be happy to throw her into a character's inbox for slower "let's hang out together" threads outside of event logs!!

General info for Noctis (Turnskin)

First off, I have to apologize for being scarce with tagging lately. I've been working a lot and it's also stressful, so I tend to just stare blankly at existing tags several times. I'm trying to catch up, honestly.

That said, if anyone wants to handwave any intro threads let me know, or I can also keep them going for those who want to. Or if you want to handwave anything else, I can do that too.

As for Noctis, he works mostly in the afternoons at Rose Bush and also tends to sleep in whenever he can. If you need to find him when he's not working, he's probably with one of his friends (Prompto generally, if he's also not working) or hanging out at the harbor, probably on or near any fishing vessels that happen to be in the area.
