HANDWAVED CR AND OOC MINGLE MEME
(and bonus welcome wagon for newbies!)

Has your character been here for a while now? Are you tired of meeting characters for the first time even though they've actually been sharing a class and/or work space for a month now? Well, here is the solution for you! The Handwaved CR Meme! Instead of stressing out trying to thread with every character you would reasonably encounter right off the bat, here is an opportunity to OOCly discuss and establish casual meetings and connections that have already happened but never had the time or need to be threaded out.
This is best used for things like characters sharing a class in the Coven, or working in the same location, or pursuing the same quests. Or maybe even being neighbors or roommates! Anything where characters have been occupying the same space for a while, but haven't had the opportunity to thread it out yet. Get those first building blocks of CR out of the way, and prepare yourself for more intense threading later!
THE RULES:
- There are few different subject headers, centered around common activities or locations we can think of. Beneath these headers, you can go ahead and post about what your character is generally doing there and the impression they may give off. The current headers are: Coven Lessons, Workplaces Around the City, Haven Neighbors, Questing Companions, Making a Scene or Shady Deals?.
- Then, other people react! Reply to people who have posted with how your character would generally engage with their presence, and establish some nice, casual CR. Are you that loudmouth that won't stop talking over people in Evocation class? This is where people can tell you how you make them feel!
- Post your own subject headers! We're putting up what comes to mind, but if you have other subjects you'd like to mingle over, go ahead and make them a reality.
- These don't necessarily have to be first meetings, it can also be used to flesh out CR you've established elsewhere.
WELCOME WAGON AND OOC INTRO FOR NEW PLAYERS:
- For all the things a new character needs please head towards this top-level. OOC Intro for new players and characters and Welcome Wagon for either OOC or IC answers of questions your character would have upon arrival.
- Due to the rolling acceptances over the past few months, if you joined the game any time during that period and want to introduce or re-introduce yourself, go for it!

OOC Intro for new players
Teresa | Ianto Jones | Torchwood
Pronouns: they/them
Contact:
Interests: reading (trashy LGBTQ lit, historical fantasy, etc), TV (Torchwood, Outlander, Bridgerton, Good Omens, etc), World of Warcraft (BIG Fairshaw shipper...), talking about my pets...? haha
Timezone: EST
Introduction: Hello! I am Teresa and I am bringing to you Ianto Jones of Torchwood fame, who I did play for years before I took a break but now I brought him back! I currently work in IT at a nonprofit organization and have been going into work a couple days a week unlike most places These Days, so my availability for tagging ebbs and flows depending on my workload/what day it is. Feel free to add me on plurk and/or discord, though please let me know that you are doing so, especially if your info isn't in your profile! I love to chat! :)
Character Name: Ianto Jones
Canon: Torchwood
Appearance: like this! - he is 6' tall, has bright blue eyes and he looks great in a suit. He is also very Welsh.
Brief: Ianto is basically the archivist/support man/everything in between for Torchwood, a secret underground organization that does its best to defend the earth against alien threat. He has survived a lot of trauma from this job, including the fall of Torchwood London where he used to work, the loss of his girlfriend who got converted into a cyberman aka basically an evil robot, and tl;dr he's not really had an easy time of things. Ianto has somehow wound up sleeping with/falling for his boss, the charismatic Jack Harkness, just in time to get sucked into this place. So on top of missing his team/Torchwood in general, he's also trying to figure that piece out as well. ITS ALL VERY COMPLICATED -- his app is here if you want to read more!
Seeking/Offering: FRIENDS... People that Ianto will be able to get along with haha, or people that will be able to get along with him. He's young and snarky and also still kind of angsty and confused, but he has a lot of experience with Terrible Things and also Weird Things?? And he will be feeling very lonely... Also BONDS, since this is necessary for the game. Ianto is coming in as a WITCH -- he will be doing a lot of RESEARCHING in the library and he will be throwing himself into coven lessons to try to learn everything he can about this magic thing, but that does mean that he needs some way to supply himself, if you will...

Ferran Gallagher | OC
Tag-along... how dare... Ferran visits the Coven for his own edification, tyvm!!Ferran visits the Coven (or Undermael) library a lot. There is too much to learn! And he figures that learning the Witch principles of certain magic will help him figure out what the hell Fae powers can do (as well as what to expect from others), and occasionally attending a class to take notes reminds him of what being a Normal Person is like, so even if he can't actually participate in most of them, he might be there a few times in a month. His own powers mainly drive him towards Illusion and Enchantment classes, although he occasionally may duck into Abjuration and Conjuration ones. (He sure misses being a magical 3D copier...)
Even though he is a Fae, he keeps up a glamor pretty much whenever he's in public, so unless his cloak is off, he just looks like a guy. He may or may not have been mistaken for a witch a few times, which he's perfectly fine with.

Mogget | The Old Kingdom
He does occasionally appear in a human shape, which is a very small, pale young man with white hair and green cat-like eyes. Generally he keeps to himself but a cat reading is a pretty noticeable thing! If you happen to be a noisy person he might have made comment on how maybe you should try a different sort of magic that doesn't explode.

Ignis Scientia | FFXV
He does attend lectures and sits in on classes occasionally, purely out of curiosity on his part. Also might be found in the library digging up every kind of reference he can find on the Cwyld.
As a Naga he has some measure of control over water, but I don't think there's a witch magical 'school' that really aligns to that? Do correct me if I'm wrong! No way of mistaking him for a witch as he's almost all the way changed (getting the tail this month aayyyy).
Elidibus (as Ardbert) | FFXIV
'Ardbert' attends lectures on general magic control and Enchantment primarily at this time but he could be encountered in studies on any type of magic school. Ones dealing with healing and barrier spells are other regulars.
He is definitely a new witch (barely four months in Aefenglom) and seemed to be a typical archaic warrior-type at first. But he does appear to have a notable talent and drive for learning magic. Very astute observers might even notice he isn't revealing all his level of progress when he shares with the class. (e.g. doesn't seem to be struggling too hard when 'pushing the limits' of what he claims to have gotten a handle on).
Being questioned about it would gain a good-natured explanation that magic was really common where he's from and while he's having to learn an entirely new system some of the underpinning principles on focus and control and having a clear image are the same.
'Ardbert' is also a frequent visitor of the library and has apparently made a lot of progress into learning the native written language (though he still has a notebook and dictionary on hand). Definitely more of an intellectual than he first appears regardless.
Workplaces Around the City
You can find workplaces on the Locations page for native and player business alike; also, anything mentioned in a past Quest Board regarding part-time opportunities on is free game to take on, part-time or full-time if your character would pursue that job. You are always free to make up something on your own as well! It's a huge city, and lots of places are always looking for work.

Jin Guangyao | MDZS
He's also a member of the Mirrorbound Council and treats it like a second job even if it isn't, really.
Between those things (and sometimes quests) he's a very busy
mansnakenaga, and works long hours, but always seems pleasant and polite. With running around for one thing or another, it's easy to find him just about anywhere in the city, or out on a trip to the Underground in person.(no subject)

Alice Elliot | Shadow Hearts
Generally, the work has mostly consisted of helping people with unrelated issues and dealing with illusion magic stuff. Some day, she might actually encounter a ghost or something more like she's used to back home!

Saori Nakagawa | OC
Actually, she's considering putting out a post advertising for more help around Fushimi. (She's seriously about including the fact if anyone works a full night, they get a free meal from her.) Scheduling is flexible as she gets everyone (including herself) also wants to quests and other things. She may ask if people are interested in a take out option just open up more positions.

Momo | IDOLiSH7
Red Wine | Food Fantasy
He also spends a lot of time around the harbour playing cards with the sailors and dock workers. He doesn't consistently win often enough to make people not want to play with him and is generally well-regarded by most, but he does occasionally get a windfall from this uh... slightly less 'knightly' pursuit.

Waver Velvet | Fate/Zero
Inkchanted offers tattoos that work similarly to spell scrolls: you can activate the magic in them at any time, but they last for a much longer period than a spell scroll that's used up. Even Monsters can "use magic" in this way, using stored-up magical energy in a talisman like a battery, which Inkchanted also sells. Things like pendants, bracelets or rings, even belts, etc. Everything is customizable so your character can get whatever kind of tattoo and battery combo they want, enabled with basic spells from elemental types to barriers and even, recently, healing magic (that last is a work in progress...).
Feel free to handwave your character getting a tattoo or two here! They're very likely to see Waver bustling around the place, manning the front desk, or looking grouchy somewhere in a corner when his customer service patience wears out lol
Elidibus (Ardbert) | FFXIV
Previous to this he did a lot of odd jobs (errands, escorts, loading/unloading cargo and so forth) around the city. He can still be seen picking these tasks up from job boards but with a steady job it is not as frequent as it was in the beginning.

For more detailed info on housing options, please check the Housing Spreadsheet. Please note that players are welcome to edit the spreadsheet, no need to ask. There's plenty of housing to go around!
Ferran Gallagher | OC
On the full moons the house may or may not "transform" into something entirely different that doesn't even kind of fit into the neighborhood, like a desert oasis or a sci-fi mansion. Don't worry about it.

So. There's... that.

Questing Companions
This can be a great place to link your quest plotting from the quest log or discuss general related stuff, including former quests!
Momo | IDOLiSH7
He also helps the Wilders reasonably often, not necessarily directly quest-adjacent but helping out with patrols around the Northern Outpost and such like, so I am also open to him having met people through that. Again, he's upbeat but professional, and while he often takes a more support healing/shielding kind of role, he uses offensive ice magic and a Big Fuckin Knife when he needs to, or occasionally also a Big Fuckin Club or throwing knives if he needs either extra power or ranged but non-magic weapons. He will always have the back of anyone he's working with, and is (perhaps surprisingly, given his usual demeanour) quite merciless to any threats they have to deal with.
And as a specific recent example, Momo has been surveying Monsters for the last few months in order to try and get enough information to detail the kinds of changes incoming Monsters can expect to go through, so if you want your character to answer that survey ICly it can still be done!
