I may not be the best to ask... I don't have a lot of clear memories of the trial.
[ She'd been there. She'd heard the arguments. She'd phased those who had victimized herself and others. But her mind was just... so much fog and mess over it. That she couldn't really piece things together the further she got away from it, as if her brain was trying to protect her. ]
[Lightning nods, and takes a long, drawn out sip of her coffee.]
Guess so...
[She'll have to find out for herself, then. Ask around, learn if there are any others like them that she may need to be concerned about. If she had it her way, she'd go and give them a talking to herself, but she knows better... now.
With a crooked, awkward smile, over her cup, she asks with a shrug.]
[ When faced with that question, it became bluntly obvious to her, almost alarmingly so, how she didn't... really have a good answer for it. And it wasn't because it had all been terrible, but more that she'd spent so much of the time since then recovering, healing, trying to find some sense of normalcy and happiness in her life again, only to have the shared memories just dredge up even more to be concerned over... ]
The refugee school is still running well! My daughter has taken over most of my original duties, though...
[Lightning's expression rounds out in surprise, her eyes widening and mouth falling open slowly.]
Your... what?
[Ursula has a daughter? Did she know this before? If she did, then she's completely forgotten and if not, well then... colour her completely surprised.]
[Well, alright. At least the adopted part makes more sense than her having a birth daughter. Ursula looks pretty young still, but it was the latter that first came to Lightning's mind, and what surprised her the most.
She takes a sip of her coffee, already relieved that the mood seems to have lightened... in some aspects.]
Well, I'm trying my best, at any rate. Though being a mother is a bit different than just being a teacher, particularly to a teenager.
[ Plus all of the... unique things that came with Monika, what she'd discovered during the memory share. Her love hadn't waned at all, but it had woken her to just how difficult a task she had with the girl. ]
She lives in the same building, mostly alone, but we spend as much time together as we can. She was particularly helpful when I couldn't walk, at all. I'm really grateful to her.
[It's been a long time since Lightning's thought about it, but it makes her miss her own mother. She hasn't forgotten her at all since, but she has forgotten what it feels like to have one. It's nice to know that there are others out there who have found a figure to look up to in that sense.]
Her name is Monika. She comes from a... pretty rough background. [ That was a way of putting it. but boy did it not even really come close how severe the reality of Monika's existence was when any scrutiny was put on it ]
So I try to do my best to assure her she's loved and that she has a home here, with me...
[Rough backgrounds. She's yet to meet someone here who has a happy story to share about their lives back home, and even when they do, there was sometimes still impacts that came with it.
She wonders if that's a trend that this world looks for when it brings people through its mirrors.]
... I'm sure she's found some reasons to be happy here.

[Of course Lightning can't expect her to recall the events of that day. How could anyone, given the circumstances? She shakes her head.]
So, these people... did they do it just 'cause you were Otherworlders? I know we don't have the best relationship with some of the locals.

Anything good that I missed out on?

Right.
Lightning wouldn't... have known about that. ]
Oh, I uh. Have a daughter, now. Adopted.
[ Well at least now she was cripplingly anxious about something completely different. ]

Congrats. You'd make a pretty good mom.

I'm assuming she's another Mirrorbound?
