[Traveling to new worlds isn't unusual, in Xigbar's experience. Traveling to new worlds through mirrors? That's a whole lot newer, and given some of the things he's run across over the course of his life, that's saying an awful lot. On the other hand... it's not really like there's a lot of other places he needs to be either, and besides. A little reconnaissance never hurt anyone, even if it turns out that this particular world is one that doesn't have anything of significant interest to it apart from the somewhat unorthodox method of his arrival.
(Later, perhaps, he might look into that more. For now though... it's of lesser importance.)
Of course, part of information gathering is seeing what any of the locals have to say, and anyone who happens to be nearby when he arrives might find him turning towards them with a simple question:]
Just recently arrived, too? Or have you been here for while?
[Later, once he's more settled in, he can also be found exploring everywhere and anywhere he can get into - and apparently without a whole lot of concern over getting in over his head.]
Wilde Hunt
[Even without a whole new world to play in and (apparently) some additional abilities besides, Xigbar would have been more than interested in the idea of hunt. Hell, even just being given a whole new world's worth of potential sandbox to play in would have been more than enough to catch his interest. Add in a whole bunch of entirely new magic, and well. He's all but jumped at the chance to explore.
The problem is that he hasn't quite managed to always get the hang of it, yet. Which is tolerable when it seems like he's can't stop catches glimpses of far-away things in any reflective surface he happens to pass, and distinctly less so when it means that a simple teleportation has him landing somewhere that is very distinctly not where he'd meant to end up.
Or where anyone else might have wanted him to end up.]
[Normally, he'd been able to deal with the pull of the moons. Not this time, though. Even the temporary bonding potion that the Coven had given him wasn't quite enough to ward off the restless energy that was building up within, so it was with great reluctance that Demyx took up the Coven's offer to burn off energy outside of the city.
Granted that more or less entailed sitting in the river, it was still better than driving people up the walls in his dinky apartment or bothering those who lived in the Big House. Plus if he was honest? This river was nicer than the one that cut through the city. It was quieter, bigger, and he didn't have to worry about someone throwing something into the river. In general, most people seemed to steer clear of this one.
Except for someone who seemed to appear out of nowhere. His eyesight isn't the best during the full moons (especially in the dark), but his sense of smell?
It's too good.
And there's something about this newcomer that's familiar. Leather, the unmistakable smell of darkness, and... Hold on.
It's not enough to get Demyx to haul himself up out of the water but it does entice him into creeping closer to the bank, his tail winding through the weeds on the bottom as he grabs hold of a rock jutting from the surface.]
[Xigbar, for his part, is mostly just glad he hasn't landed in the river. Not that he can't swim - he's had more than enough time to learn - but because it would be a hassle. Especially when he hadn't been planning to end up taking a dip, not that his usual ability to end up exactly where he mean to seems to care. Or be working the way he would normal expect it to, but for now he's mostly chalking that up to being something with the world interfering. A nuisance, yes, but one that he can tolerate for the time being.
And also one that is very swiftly put out of his mind at the sound of a familiar voice.]
Demyx?
[It takes him a bit to spot Demyx, though in all fairness it doesn't immediately occur to him to look in the river. Even if it's not as surprising as perhaps it should be?]
[He folds his arms over the rock and drops his chin onto them, taking a few moments to think. It'd be easier to explain back in the city where there was proper lighting, but out here he only has the light from the moons and the bioluminescent splotches on his tail and the spots on the rest of his scales and they weren't exactly the best thing to light the way with above water.
[It's definitely not the most ideal place to hold a conversation true. Or at least not in so far as actual lighting goes. But then again, Never Was had been too, and they'd all managed well enough there, even if it had had the advantage in the assorted neon lights besides. Besides, even if Xigbar had the ability to create some sort of light, there's no guarantee that it wouldn't go as wrong as his teleporting has.]
You guess?
[There's a raised eyebrow as if to say 'what, you don't know for sure?' but he moves easily enough to the rest of the questions all the same.]
[Muttering something to himself about bad luck and bad timing, Demyx drums short claws against the scales of his arm. Who'd have guessed he missed that by holing himself up in that apartment for a couple days?]
Did, uh... the people around town explain everything? The witches and stuff?
[Scales and claws are... definitely not a typical look for Demyx. But Xigbar refrains from asking about them - yet. After all, he's already seen that the world has some pretty strange effects going on with regards to magic.]
Pretty sure I got the basics, yeah. Is that why the new look?
[He looks around for a moment, and when he turns his head a certain way his eyes seem to glow under the moonlight. When it seems like he doesn't find what he's looking for, he shrugs, pushes off from the rock, and moves himself closer to shore to haul himself up onto the bank. A majority of his tail stays in the water, but there's no mistaking what he is now, even in the dark.]
Ta-da~ S'not bad, right? I mean, it kinda sucked when it first started, but... It's not so bad now?
[It's certainly not a bad look, he has to admit. Different, sure, but it fits.]
Seems like it'd make getting around on land kinda tricky, though.
[For now, he's not going to address the implications that it hadn't been a neat and easy transformation. It's interesting, yes. But why bother going into the details of that, when there are other things to talk about that are just as interesting.]
[He'd draw his knees up to his chest if he had them, but since he doesn't he sort of picks at some stray bits of grass that decided to get stuck to his tail instead and lets it twist and curl near the end.]
I can climb in and out just fine, but I'm heavier than I look now. If I gotta drag myself anywhere, I kinda give up halfway and whine until someone carries or drags me the rest of the way. It's way too much effort, yanno?
[There's a moment of silence, and then Xigbar plops himself down on the grass. No need to keep standing, if all they're doing is having a casual conversation.]
Sounds like it. 'Specially since it's not like that place with all the mermaids back home.
[There's too much land and not enough ocean, for one.]
How often do you have to bother people into helping out?
[It's idle curiosity, pure and simple. But if Demyx is willing to share, Xigbar is more than willing to listen.]
[Demyx, you're only saying that because it hits all of your buttons for Best Worlds To Work In.]
But uh, not a lot? Usually it's only if it starts raining outta nowhere, 'cause I guess if I get wet... Poof, bye-bye legs. And when the moons're full, I think. It's... kinda why I'm out here.
[The normal full moon isn't bad, but this one was a rough one for some reason. The last thing he wants to do is get kicked out of that dinky apartment because he drove his roommate crazy.]
