Plotting Post: April, Tangled Terrors Part Two
Please note that this part of the event will be only in the Underground, but the widespread effects on magic and Bonds (introduced in Part One) will last until Part Two wraps up.
Summary:
- In the cavernous hollow discovered Underground, the source of the horrible pulsing -- and of the negative effects on magic and the leylines -- becomes apparent. Those who ventured Underground will find a throbbing, living mass of Cwyld, old and newly awakened: a Cwyldheart. It is clearly a parasite on the underground roots of an ancient tree, poisoning the leyline it sits on and, gradually, the leylines branching out from it as well.
Creia, the ancient guardian dragon of the earth, worried by the waking of this mass and the havoc it could wreak upon Geardagas, has made her way to the tree aboveground. She will meet the characters who choose to undertake this dangerous mission there, imparting on them some important knowledge about this parasitic mass below, and a little help to destroy it.
She will give the characters large seeds, about the size of footballs, each containing a little bit of her own magic. Volunteers will be responsible for taking these seeds with them inside the heart of the infection, planting them in the center and imbuing them with their own touch, their own innate magical signature, whether they be Monster or Witch. Creia’s power will offer a boost, and allow the Cwyldheart to be destroyed…
If they can make it that far.
The bad effects and Bond issues from Part One remain throughout Part Two, and characters will need to rely on each other to keep the worst at bay as they journey into the tangled heart of darkness. Unofficial bonds will become as important as official Bonds in staying safe and sane, with any kind of relationship becoming a strength to draw on, whether it’s friendship, familial affection, fated rivals, or even just the bond of two strangers facing down mutual danger and trying to survive.
Time and space inside the Cwyldheart both work a little strangely, a little dreamlike, and while characters who enter will be stuck for 7-10 IC days, it could feel much shorter, or much longer. Strange side effects will abound, including enhanced fear and paranoia, painful physical mutations, and the baring of your heart on your sleeve -- in a literal sense, characters may find themselves wearing physical wounds or scars to represent their emotional ones.
If characters succeed in working together, planting Creia’s seeds at the center, and lending their strength to the magic of the world to overcome the Cwyld, it just might feel worth it in the end. Destroying this Tangled Heart will completely clear the Cwyld from the Underground tunnels (thus gaining their gratitude, and permission to study their protective moss), and make infection aboveground between the ancient tree and Aefenglom lesser and easier to clear with more conventional methods. It will also revitalize the tree, and free two dozen living Dryads from their frozen state inside its trunk. (This will open up Dryad as a playable Monster type starting in May!)
Timeline of Events
- April 16: Characters discover the source of the pulsing and all the problems: a cavern containing a massive, tangled knot of living, pulsing Cwyld, wrapped up in the roots of an ancient tree. Characters will be able to venture above as well, to see the tree and the terrified, horror-filled faces of two dozen Dryads frozen into the blackened trunk. Creia, the guardian dragon of earth, will reach the tree above, and inform characters about the Cwyldheart and what’s at stake now that it’s awake.
- April 17: Creia will entrust characters with seeds of her own magic to plant at the center of the Cwyldheart, which will amplify their power and allow them to destroy it for good. Volunteers will take the seeds and enter the Cwyldheart itself, an almost dream-like space where time and space behave strangely and dangers abound.
- April 17-25: Characters will fight through dangers inside the Cwyldheart as they make their way to the center, to plant the seeds and destroy it. Anyone who enters the Cwyldheart will be trapped inside it until it’s destroyed so plan accordingly! They will only have access to spotty and garbled Watch connections to talk to the outside world.
- April 26-30: Aftermath. Characters’ success will free the Underground tunnels from the Cwyld entirely, make the Cwyld less likely to return once cleared up above (between Aefenglom and the ancient tree only), and revitalize the tree itself, freeing living Dryads back into the world.
Also, since the event post itself isn't up yet, there is a Questions header here in this post.

QUESTIONS
Re: QUESTIONS
Would the above apply to clothing or would it just be physical/flesh and blood changes?

Orion | Yuki | IDOLiSH7
Pronouns: They/them please!
Contact:
Time zone: US Central
Character Name: Yuki
Canon: IDOLiSH7
Brief: Idol. Not that strong! Not very social! Loves plants? Loves Momo more? He's a merrow and he's having A Time and probably changing colors like a crazed mood ring right now. Probably Doing His Best but struggling. He has ONE regular Bond (with his idol partner/boyfriend).
Event Plans: He's going to volunteer to carry a seed because he wants to prove he can pull his weight, and he thinks it'll be easier/better for him to protect that than try to do anything really uhhh... obviously difficult like fighting. I really just think he's due for a trial of fortitude and I'd like him to get forced into an accidental Bond with someone whether officially accidental or just the above. If it's someone who doesn't get him that won't get why he's trying so hard to prove something pointless, more's the better. He'll be showing physical wounds/scars on the upper half of his face and on his arms/hands.
Anything else? Help him please. I didn't put up a Bond Finder because I hecked up but if anyone wants to randomly pseudo-Bond just lmk!
Revise | Momo | IDOLiSH7
Pronouns: She/her
Contact:
Time zone: AEST (GMT+10)
Character Name: Momo
Canon: IDOLiSH7
Brief: Veteran idol of the duo Re:vale, known for being very cute and sweet and nice. However, all the shit he's had to go through in the industry helping make sure he and Yuki succeeded means he's also quite cunning, manipulative and good at reading people. Tons of self-esteem issues, and tends to go feral when his loved ones are in danger.
Event Plans: So Momo is definitely also taking a seed and going in because there's no way in hell he's letting Yuki go alone (and also because there's no way in hell he'd turn back at this point). He's going to be trying to support everyone to keep it together, but he's going to be having a bit of a Time himself considering how much emotional stuff he tends to keep bottled up usually. So far I'm thinking he's likely to have scars on his throat (about where his larynx/voice box would be), upper half of his face (in the same place as Yuki but smaller than Yuki's), over his heart (claw markings that look like they've come outward from his chest rather than into it), on his wrists and ankles (something that looks akin to injuries from being bound, though in this case it'd be more scraping from metal/manacles rather than friction burn from rope), and the usual scar he has on the back of his calf might grow a bit to look like a split all the way down the back of his left leg. So that'll be a Big Ol' Telegraph of how much he tries to conceal about his emotional matters. I'm also considering doing physical mutations, but I'm not entirely sure what to go with for that yet.
Also, I'm still up for temporary random bonds, so you can either hit me up here or on the Bond Finder for that.
Anything else? Bond finder post, and here's his quest stuff if anyone still wants to backdate anything there.
Rynn | Yona | Akatsuki no Yona (Witch)
Pronouns: she/her
Contact:
Time zone: EST
Character Name: Yona
Canon: Akatsuki no Yona
Brief: Ex-princess turned badass, she's the reincanrnated soul of an ancient dragon god although mostly she just wants people to stop being idiots and starting wars everywhere. In Aef, she's a witch who specializes in Enchantment, Abjuration, and Evocation. She currently has all three bond slots filled but I am also open to temporary shenanigans happening!
Event Plans:
Yona was definitely involved in the mission heading deep into the caves to try and find this new source of Cwyld, so she's still going to be deeply involved in resolving the issue as well. She'll be taking a seed and I'd love to play out some threads with close CR dealing with the consequences/side-effects of Cwyldheart as well as playing on the strengths of various (and unofficial) bonded friends. I'm also open to other ideas too, and she still has an open top-level here for the earlier part of this event.
Anything else?
She is here for some more Danger.
Aisu | Rude | FFVIIR
Contact: here, PMs, or
Time zone: CST
Character Name: Rude
Canon: FFVIIR
Brief: Turk. Brawler. Dragon. He's a large guy with sunglasses and wearing a suit (in Aef styles but still a suit!). As a former Turk he's good at a number of things but least to say most of them revolve around beating people up or threatening them. Anyway, he's a nice guy at heart so don't let his impassive demeanor scare you off.
Event Plans: Just doing what there is to do! I didn't get to do anything with the first part but I did finally get something written for it anyway! Feel free to tag there to establish anything if wanted, as well as at new log. Rude is there to do what needs be done so he'll probably grab a seed and head down to plant it. He's a dragon so there's potential for infection woes and/or feral times. Could also just as easily be someone's pillar of strength if they need help getting through all the crazy. Let me know which way you'd prefer if one over the other. Honestly, just hit me with anything!
