... Well, that's a horribly unpleasant thought. And it sure makes some of Shiro's baggage, which he's made great strides to neatly packing away so he can never think about it again, rear up. But it's fine. Still, there's something in Shiro's expression that shifts to sheer discomfort.
It lasts only a moment. But, it was there. ]
It sounds rough, all the same. [ More than rough, but... ] Is there anything I could do for you, when that happens?
[ shiro...always so kind. always so caring and concerned. heh... what did lance tell him the last time he'd asked? he can't remember, but he doesn't just want to say "nothing" either. ]
Uh...
[ he thinks hard for a second. ]
Well... If you're a Witch, I think...a Bond might help. I didn't even get around to explaining those to you either, huh...
[ shiro gets the breakdown about how bonds work; the deep connection. being able to sense what the other's feeling. the oaths -- all of it. he kind of rambles about it rather than giving a concise explanation, but lance hopes it's helpful all the same. ]
So yeah, that's about it. [ phew. what a doozy! ] Got any questions I can answer?
Alright, good. I was kinda hoping I didn't bore you or anything.
[ he grins at shiro. it's nice that shiro trusts him like this; he's someone lance looks up to so much. it really is an honor to be able to be able to talk to shiro like this. ]
And yeah, I've got two bonds: One's to a girl named Marie, she's a Fae and she's like, one of the nicest people I know. [ he seems a little more elated than usual to talk about her. huh! ]
The other person's just until I can find another Witch to bond with, but her name's Sypha. She's really, really kickass and I respect her a lot. She helped me before I would've...well, lost myself, pretty much. [ gone feral. ] So yeah, just those two!
[ It's hard to be bored around Lance, honestly. The other paladins, too. Shiro chuckles quietly; he's glad Lance is taken care of, but still, a part of him wants to meet them. Lance, the other paladins... they're his family. ]
I'm glad you've found people you trust to bond to. [ He's so sincere, look at that smile. ] I'd be pretty worried if you didn't.
[ ... he says, like he wouldn't worry regardless. ]
If you ever need another bond, though, the offer's more than open.
Hey, I'm a sociable guy, it was only a matter of time before I had a few people coming after me!
[ no, lance, you pursued them, but he's just hamming it up right now. god. ]
Thanks for the offer, Shiro. I'll think about it! Wouldn't want you to be without a bond for too long -- though I have a feeling Keith'll be more than eager to help you out there.
A few people "coming after" you, huh? I hope you haven't been getting yourself into trouble.
[ He raises his eyebrows, but continuing on-- ]
No problem. Consider it an open offer. [ And he means that so seriously, goodness. ] I'll talk to him about it. Honestly, if either of you went bondless, I'd have to worry even more than usual.
[ Luckily, Shiro seems to catch onto when her feet fail her, and he braces his hand lightly against her back. No falling princesses today! ... He doesn't poke at the "other benefits," rather, he lets her provide. Shiro's a smart guy, he has at least an idea of why a monster and a monster or a witch and a witch might bond. ]
Hah, that's pretty amazing. Imagine being able to explore the seafloor... [ a pause. ] I'm guessing all monsters have some special kind of benefit to bonding with them?
[It turns out, bonds aren't always totally born out of necessity. Imagine that! And she gives an appreciative, if not weary smile, to Shiro for his silent help once again. She's getting a little tired of all of this slipping around.]
Perhaps. Most of the benefits of bonding with Keith include less bickering.
[She says that with a surprising amount of softness, despite the small laugh in her voice. Keith had always been the most difficult one of the paladins for her to wrap her head around, but now that there was literally a tether between their emotions, he was a lot less mysterious to her. A benefit for everyone in the house, for sure.
She gestures towards a bench a few feet away.]
Shiro, would you mind sliding me over there? I think I am ready for that seat now.
[ A quiet chuckle. It's good that they've come this far; Shiro remembers how tense things had been between them at one point. But it makes him happy, knowing that Keith's got someone watching out for him when he can't. And the same goes for Allura, too. They're both important to Shiro, after all. ]
I'm sure everyone can agree that's a good thing. [ But he nods, and he guides her over to the bench. ]
Your seat, Princess, [ he says, as he guides her to sit. ] It's maybe not the most comfortable, but it'll do.
[She huffs a fond laugh, aware that her and Keith butting heads was likely stressful for everyone on board the castleship. By all means, life in their little house ('little' by Allura's standards. They lived in one of the large mansions in the city) had been peaceful.]
Thank you, Shiro. [Said with a small, sheepish smile. Eventually the potion will wear off and she can walk normally again.] And Keith and Lance bicker less too. I think life here is easier for everyone.
[Maybe she's a little bittersweet about that. She wants to return home someday, but that's because of her relentless sense of duty, not because she thinks that life is any kinder to any of them.]
[ He lets out a quiet chuckle, fond more than anything. Shiro cares about them both, it's true, but they've butted heads so much in the past... Still, when it comes down to it, Shiro knows they care about each other. So he's glad, to know that they're getting along better here. ]
I guess miracles can happen. This place really is something.

Right now? Not that I can think of. I'm guessing in the future I might have questions, but for right now, this is more than enough.

I've got an idea of the answer, but... is there anyone you're bonded to?
