[She doesn't ask for his name in turn, but in response to his question, a faint smirk pulls at one corner of her mouth, though it fades almost as quickly as it had appeared.]
I'm not exactly a 'people person.' You probably figured that out already.
[ Even if she doesn't ask, Zack doesn't hesitate to offer his name up anyway. He squares his shoulders and jabs his thumb against his collarbone. ]
Zack. Nice to meet you.
[ This place is strange and he's still not sure what their purpose is here, but it's a step up from where he would have been going otherwise. ]
And yeah, I may have. If we're really only going to be here for a little while, maybe you won't have to worry about it.
[ By this point they seem to have reached the stall that the first goblin mentioned. Zack doesn't know if it's any more legitimate, but he pauses so that Kainé can take a look. ]
[She grunts quietly in response, quite possibly a grunt that means 'nice to meet you, too.' It's hard to tell, really.]
That would be nice. Nothing like my usual luck, but I'd take it if things did work out that way.
[She'd rather not have to figure out what's in store for her here long-term. She slows to a stop in front of the stall as they reach it, eyes narrowed as she looks over the wares on display— they at least seem to be lacking that foul ammonia smell from the last stall, so that's a step in the right direction.]
Don't see a whole lot of potion-sellers where I'm from. You?
[ Not like her usual luck? Man, Kainé here is not the most optimistic type, though Zack has spent his time around his fair share of sourpusses, so he isn't going to let it deter him too much. She hasn't told him to get lost yet, so he'll just stick with her for now. Seems better than wandering these markets solo.
At her question, he perks up and quickly nods. ]
Oh, all over the place! Potions back home don't really do the same things that they do here, though. They're mainly for patching up wounds or giving you a little pick-me-up. Ethers are to replenish your mana reserves if you're running low. None of this 'temporary bond' stuff.
[She probably should tell him to scram— most people would be a hell of a lot better off keeping their distance from her, she thinks, but in this place, she can't bring herself to be quite as coarse as she normally would. She'll never admit to being lonely, but it's hard to be quite as harsh as she's usually inclined to be when she's not actively being run out of town.
He seems like an okay guy, either way.]
Sounds familiar. Typical medicine. Wonder if they have any of that stuff here, or if it's all—
[She cuts herself off and gestures broadly to their surroundings.]
[ Typical medicine? Yeah, that's more or less how it goes. While healing spells via Materia are usually more effective, Zack had always kept some potions on him to use in a pinch.
At Kainé's question, Zack lets out a sigh and shrugs. It doesn't seem like she's found anything that looks promising at this stall, either. ]
Well, this market is just a small part of the city, right? We might have better luck looking elsewhere.
[ Assuming she's up for a hike. Thus far, getting around on foot seems to be the only way to travel within the city, at least as far as Zack is aware. Who knows, maybe there's magic for that too. ]
[He's met with little resistance on that suggestion, at least.]
At this point, I'm willing to try anything with a decent shot of working.
[Learning to harness some new kind of magic on top of the crap she already has to deal with? Really not high on her list of things to do at the moment, and the longer she can keep it under control, the more time she can spend focusing her energy on other matters— and put off having to get overly chummy with people.]
If we ask around, someone might even be able to recommend something a little more reputable. Know the Coven has temporary bonding potions, but... that ain't gonna cut it.
zack

[You know, from the Everything About Her.]
