OOC INTRO: FEBRUARY

Hello, thank you for joining us, and welcome to Aefenglom! The Intro Log will be going on later today at 3PM EST; keep an eye out for it! For now though, it's time to mingle and make friends, grab some CR, check out some quests, and get hopping!

OH BOY haha i thought it would be Interesting but wow, i didn't realize it would go that deep. (please feel free to elaborate; i'm awful at playing video games).

and tbh he would be game on continuing to learn, gotta improve on that fighting skills. we will make this happen.

Well, it's pretty complicated, but the (very badly summarised) tl;dr version is they were friends, in Shinra. Zack was a genetically modified supersoldier, and Cloud... wasn't. He wanted to be, he was just too weak for the program. Boooo. Regardless! Cloud acts as a grunt for Zack and Sephiroth as they're placed on a particular mission. Said mission goes to hell, Sephiroth loses his mind, burns down the settlement and Zack goes after him. Zack's taken out by Sephiroth and Cloud eventually kills Sephiroth. Zack's more or less dead, Sephiroth stabs Cloud through the chest and uh, they only survive because they've been brought in by the Company.

...Who sweeps the entire incident under the rug. Zack and Cloud are obvs, a liability, an so they're kept for 5 years in an underground laboratory as lab rats in a series of experiments to Make Another Sephiroth. Zack withstands the majority of the procedures, Cloud doesn't, and he's more or less comatose, badly poisoned, and on death's door. Zack escapes with him and hauls him to Midgar, buuuut the Shinra army's waiting. :( Zack takes them all out, but the second wave pretty much gives him bullets to the everywhere. They leave Cloud where he is, deciding in his state, he's going to die anyway.

BUT UH YEAH cloud um, wakes up and manages to crawl on over to a (dying) Zack. Zack pretty much tells him he wants to live on, as his 'living legacy' and. Cloud kindofhasamentalbreak at 1:trauma 2: procedures 3: what was done to him and 4: that's my bffl dead af and disassociates. He spends the majority of FF7 thinking he is Zack, and. Y-yeah.

That's it in a nutshell, hastily and very badly explained because brevity! I totally recommend checking out the short anime SE made detailing it. It's rly good.

omgosh, THANK YOU kindly for that summary, nonetheless! that is definitely. a trip, holy shit, and more than i ever would have been able to predict in terms of zack and cloud's relationship. THOSE POOR BOYS.....?? one day i'll watch a LP of this game, it's about time i get in on it.

Haha, no worries!

I explained it horribly because honestly, there's an awful Lot to it, but I tried to be as brief as I could because honestly, it's kind of massive. So massive that in 2007 they gave Zack his own game, Crisis Core! ...Which. honestly, has an ending sequence which, cheesy jpop song aside, made a ton of people ugly!cry.

Butyes! Essentially, one of the things about FF7 that blew people's minds way back in 1997 was that plot twist, and the game was one of the first of its kind by having a main character in Cloud being a) a very unreliable narrator, and b) ....very mentally unwell throughout. For its time, that twist was really something!

i watched... we got the rain, the blood, final last words, an ANGUISHED SCREAM.... i may not be canon familiar, but goodness!! ( also zack's got a cute af smile, aha )

that's neat! i love unreliable narrators, tbh, if done well. and it sounds like they definitely pulled it off.
