Hello, thank you for joining us, and welcome to Aefenglom! The Intro Log will be going on later today at 3PM EST; keep an eye out for it! For now though, it's time to mingle and make friends, grab some CR, and get hopping! Usually we try to have quests out at the same time as acceptances, but the post itself will be updated tomorrow or the day after at latest -- we'll keep you in the know,

To help get this all started, we've got a nifty form for new players to fill out! Our CR/Plotting post will come a bit later, once we've got all the details for this month's event set up. Feel free to keep this either to one comment, or to split it in two - it's your choice.

Interests: My canon/fandom interests are just kind of an absolute unpredictable and outdated mess, as evinced by the two I play from at the moment, Deadwood and Fruits Basket. A random sampling of other things I'm recently fond of include Attack on Titan, Succession, Steven Universe, Hilda, and Aggretsuko. Outside of RP, I'm a law student, and unfortunately that has eaten my brain.

Introduction: I already have Momiji (selfishwish) here, so I'm not actually new and don't have to think of an introduction!!

Character Name: Jane Canary
Canon: Deadwood
Appearance: Like this but dirtier usually; see also her First Impressions post.

Brief: She's Calamity Jane, and she is a calamity. Jane is an experienced frontiersman and scout from the late-19th century U.S. (it's 1876 for her at this point); she's also a hyperdefensive, ornery, foul-mouthed, low-functioning alcoholic. Between being a drunk and being a decidedly masculine woman in a time not exactly open to that, she sees herself as a social reject and expects others to regard her as such. Despite her brashness, though, she has a caring center and is a natural caregiver/healer, having just finished a stint tending smallpox victims in her camp back home. Oh, and she's coming in during the middle of an extended bender out in the wilderness, after her best friend in the world was murdered.

Also: She's so foul-mouthed that, out of an abundance of caution, I actually have an opt-out post for her, re: that, so maybe take a look!

Seeking/Offering: Jane is a disaster and needs both fellow disasters to disaster around with and probably also people to keep her from just straight-up dying. She is, fair warning, generally hostile to new faces and is likely to stay on the wrong foot with someone once she gets off on it. So, in that vein, some fun stuff might include:

• Negative CR is both inevitable and welcome, with an option for growth towards incredibly grumpy friendship.
• She also needs drinking buddies and fellow wastrels to associate with, though fair warning that she's more the "slowly killing herself" kind of drunk than the fun kind.
• Other fun CR possibilities include: high-society types (who she'll be uncomfortable just breathing around), younger characters (who are the only ones generally exempt from Jane's default suspicion/hostility), well-intentioned meddlers (who she will not appreciate at all), and/or anyone who can actually drag her to/convince her to attend Witch lessons.
• Also in that vein, some form of roommate would be good, because if she doesn't have a stable living situation she will literally just end up sleeping in the gutter most nights. (And will probably do that a lot anyway, so...enjoy that, future roomies.)

So I have no idea what they'd make of each other but she and Percy could be kind of fascinating. Percy's extremely posh but also a hardened adventurer and very fond of guns, and he's pretty much impossible to shock when it comes to bad manners (you should see the folks he hangs out with). Also he's a massive disaster himself in a quieter way, so hey.

They do sound like they'd be interesting to ping off each other! Though I likewise don't have any clue what to expect--Percy might get points for gunslinger cred, but probably he loses those for being a posh dude, and then mostly she'll be confused what he did to go all the way past gray to white at his age. So, that should get them off on the right foot, probably!

i am SO excited that you app'd in!! i'm canonblind but i had a ton of fun playing off jane on the tdm :D

(also if you want a drinking buddy....... andersen is ur man. they can both be grumpy together and dunk on rich ppl)

Aww, thanks! I really enjoyed that thread, too, and would be delighted for them to hang out in-game proper!

It might take her a while adjust to the idea of sharing booze with Andersen, though, on account of him looking like he's ten. But she can probably find him grape juice or a ginger ale or something in the interim, so it's cool.
