Hello, thank you for joining us, and welcome to Aefenglom! The Intro Log will be going on later today at 3PM EST; keep an eye out for it! For now though, it's time to mingle and make friends, grab some CR, and get hopping! Usually we try to have quests out at the same time as acceptances, but the post itself will be updated tomorrow or the day after at latest -- we'll keep you in the know,

To help get this all started, we've got a nifty form for new players to fill out! Our CR/Plotting post will come a bit later, once we've got all the details for this month's event set up. Feel free to keep this either to one comment, or to split it in two - it's your choice.

Introduction: I only just came back to plurk (and RP, for that matter), after a couple years of... not, so I don't post very much. I'm pretty quiet in general, I guess? Oh, I also have a cat, named, uh. Cat. Which is what happens when you can't come up with a name right away, and then months pass, and then years later you just have to accept that you named your cat Cat.

Character Name: Emet-Selch
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Appearance: here
Brief: A tragic hero, trying to save both his people and his god from the machinations of those villains who would see them all buried under time and history. Alternatively, a member of an immortal ghost cult responsible for the deaths of millions, and a major antagonist!

Emet-Selch's a bit of an odd duck. Ruthless, sarcastic, irritable- and absolutely devoted to the few things he cares about. He just gives no fucks about anything else. None. Not a single one. He's extremely old and extremely tired and is going to be extremely put out at being completely removed from the one thing that matters to him. He can be relatively pleasant if he has to be, and also has a flair for the theatrical.

Oh, he also used to be emperor (probably more than once, though it's just his most recent endeavor we know about) of an extremely militaristic, expansionist country.

Also, there's the app here for more information, and a more lengthy analysis here if, for some reason you wanted to read 5000+ words about the guy (you don't). Both are full of unmarked spoilers for Shadowbringers!

Seeking/Offering:
Seeking:
· People who don't know who he is, but who can appreciate a good pragmatist. Other conspirators with a focus of finding a way home over helping the world. Useful tools allies who can share information without being too bothersome.
· People who do know who he is, since this place is bound to influence their dynamics somewhat. He's also coming from before endgame, so he doesn't know how everything ended up!
· Anything doing or relating to magic learning, since while he'll probably stubbornly attempt to do everything on his own, help is bound to make things easier in the long run.

Offering:
· ...uh, complicated CR is the best way I know to put it. Emet-Selch is not the most pleasant person, or easy to know, but there's a lot to unpack there that could be interesting(?) to develop with people
· he's pretty tall, he could probably get things off of tall shelves no problem

Not sure if this counts as offering anything, or just information, but Emet-Selch Bonding with anyone is probably going to be a difficult thing, considering that he just doesn't. Care. About anyone that's not from his past. Yet he'll want to develop his magic as much as possible, so Bonding would be a necessity! So finding people with the right sort of dynamic would be interesting to play out, I think.

That's the best sort of people really. And I mean, she's not wrong about his identity, just not... wholly informed.

No really, I'm pretty excited about how that'll go. How much does she know about Ascians in general? I expect he'll keep up the pretense of being Solus with her for as long as possible, though.

Very... limited. Basically whatever Thancred has taught her, as her bonded. A Thancred from during Flow.

And Fordola is stubborn when she thinks she knows what's going on, so... the most awkward thing for her will be that she looks very beastly.

Hello!!! Surprise Emet was the highlight of my fucking week, let me tell you! He's fantastic and I'm so excited to see what sorts of awful snark contests and 5 dimensional chess these two get into.

Before we get into anything, you have full permission to fuck crystal grandpa up. I mean, it's only fair??? But since they're both witches starting at level 1 like a fresh POTD run I imagine it's like

I'm honestly a bit relieved to hear it, I wasn't sure about creeping in under the wire, but just went for it in the end. And snarking with the Exarch has been a fucking delight, I will say.

And that goes the other way as well, it's not like Emet doesn't deserve it. But shit yeah they'd be casting shit at each other for like -10HP each, it'd just be embarrassing for everyone

And yes, I'm happy to keep their TDM thread, since I assume any other meeting between them would go roughly similarly anyway. :x

this is probably going to be a disaster but hopefully entertaining, so uh. how do you want to go with this? Like Kururu mentioned, he's pretty much a week out from Flow at the moment, canon point wise, so he won't recognise him as Emet…. He might be sort of familiar with Garlean history, I'm willing to roll whichever way on that. Either way, I figure he'll probably want to keep an eye out.

Ohh, that should be an interesting disaster, yes. Emet's still recognizably Garlean, so if he picked up on Thancred not knowing who he really was, he'd probably introduce himself as Solus. Which should at least be a recognizable name? :x

yes hello, Childermass can appreciate a good pragmatist, although infinitely less appreciative of most everything else Emet is. Luckily, he's also used to working around people he a) dislikes and b) who think he's super beneath them, so hey, that's life.

Mostly just wanted to drop by to say I'm stoked to see an Emet-Selch here. When I'm not lurking around the rest of the internet, I'm playing FFXIV, and he's definitely one of my favs from the expansion.
