CR & PLOTTING: JULY

First off, a brief look at what's coming up this month! All dates are noted on the calendar for this month - it has some extra climate info as well, as per the usual, so check it out! Moving on:

With that done, a quick recap!

Unlike the past two months, there are no new arrivals this month - a fact that confuses but relieves those within the Coven, and might do the same for the rest of those who have arrived on Aefenglom's doorsteps. Of course, given the red skies during Litha and the unsettling dream shared by all at the peak of it, this might be a cause for alarm as well. The venture into a cave deep within the Wilde also served as a grim reminder that even the safest-looking of places require extreme caution to traverse. However, given the cave lays directly overhead the part of a leyline, the Coven is hopeful that they'll be able to use this to their advantage in gaining a serious foothold in the Wilde itself. Outside of that, new arrivals (now being affectionately referred to as the mirrorbound by Miss Nerissa Bell) have been integrating themselves into the city in their own way - taking up work requests, diving right in to help, investigating areas and sometimes even poking their nose into businesses that isn't theirs.

The city is on tenterhooks wondering how things will pan out for this month, and we're certain you are too - so let's jump right in to explain those event logs listed on the calendar!

EVENT LOG: WINTER WONDERLAND

A group of Witches have decided to continue what they call their "annual tradition" of causing a little winter havoc in the city - though "annual" only applies for when things get really hot. They also didn't mean for it to last as long as it's going to: the whole of Juril, with some potential bleed over into next month. While the cold weather will at least significantly cool down Aefenglom entirely, the actual winter part will only affect the following areas - minus the river flowing through the city:

• The Coven, which will have a break in classes for the first week of snow and then resume as usual afterwards. Watch out for magic heat-seeking snowballs, everyone! Enchanted snowmen, castle-like snow forts, and some fun, harmless pranks are just a few of the things the Witches studying and living in the Coven have to offer while the winter weather is around.
• The Eastern Residential District, which will have snow fun in a similar fashion to the Coven... except with significant less magic involved. Good ol' fashioned snow fights, sculpture competitions, and people selling and sharing hot chocolate, soup, and other war, hearty foods can be found here, not to mention groups relaxing by the fire for a little warmth.
• The Western Residential District, which is - for once - a little better off than its Eastern counterpart. Due to the amount of reptiles in the area, Witches will be setting up proper hot stones and spots for those seeking more temperate weather within this district; nagas and chimeras with reptile in them are common sights in these places. Those living here are a little more cuddly that usual as well, and rather than hot chocolate and soups populating the streets, spicy foods are the meal du jour.
• The Aristocratic District, the veritable epicenter of the spell, will have the worst of it! Ice and snow coat the area, with some walls of the latter being as high as seven feet once it's been pushed to the side, opening opportunities for skating, sledding, making igloos, and a lot of complaining, should that be your style. The Haven is included in this, although given it's more on the outer edge of the Aristocratic District, it's gotten more of the Coven and Residential District treatment: a good bit of snow, but nothing severe.

However, the Harbor District will also be getting a few ice spots from intrepid youths looking to engage in ice fishing without suffering the risk of being carried off by the river. More information on exact activities will be on the event post, set to go up on July 5th, but know that there's no stopping the summer fun this month.

EVENT LOG: A SUMMONS

Meanwhile, shortly before the 19th, talk of a meeting will begin; on the 19th proper, such a thing will be held in the Parliament, given it has the space to accommodate a great number of people. Miss Nessie will be generally presiding over the gathering, with the leaders of Parliament behind her. This is, essentially, a forum for information exchange - to get everyone on the same page, to share new findings or queries, and so on. Some follow-up regarding happenings in the past few months as well will be shared by Miss Nessie, so keep an eye out! Participation is not mandatory, but Miss Nessie will ask that all mirrorbound who are able to attend do so. Anyone who cannot will receive a summary regarding the information a few days afterwards.

There will not be a specific subheader for interacting with the NPCs this go around, but they may weigh in on topics like anyone else should they have need to!

Brief: A Hunter from a place where you kill werewolves, not marry them. Very dark past, a villain in someone else's tale, fond of talking with her swords, but has a soft spot for gardening.

Event Plans: July is going to be a quieter month in general, so the basic plans are...

Snow days:

- Maria is from Cainhurst Castle; it's a cold, snowy, desolate place full of psuedo-vampires. So this whole thing isn't a big shock to her. Might not do too much with the whole snow plot so I can wrap up the approximately 500 billion threads I started last month (and yes, I am also playing FFXIV)

The meeting:

- Consider Maria THERE. She might have a few Concerns over the fact they say the Beasts here are well behaved, but the number of unbonded ones on this third/second full moon has determined that was a lie, so like. Give her one good reason not to start the night of the Hunt again.
- She'll probably be a pretty vocal person there. She's done a lot of Wilde-delving, and tends to take the dangerous Quests so she's learned a bit from what she's done. Also, her problems with Monsters in general.

Quests:

- I've only signed her up for the Cartography quest this month, so anyone who is out there can meet up!

General Plans:

- After three months, Maria's well on her way toward regaining most of her old skillset back! She throws fire off her blades now, and has been working on short-range teleporting to get her quickstep ability back, so soon enough she'll be back at true Hunting capacity! To counterbalance all these Monsters :V
- Her continued studies will include getting more fighting practice in, and learning how to use blood to imbue the magics she does cast. Eventually, I'd like to get her to start to be able to craft the ammunition for her sidearm again, so she's not just stabbing people - now she can shoot people!
- She has a standing threat against all the Monsters here that if they go completely feral and pose a risk to the populace, she will put them down. I am more than happy to play with that, if anyone would like, especially since some of the Monsters here are being stubborn about Bonding.
- THAT SAID all stabs and no niceties do not make friends or potential Bondmates - it's going to be rather slow burn, but she does need the kind of Monster CR that will help her trust and interact with the Monsters more. I've reached out to a couple, but the more gentle souls out there could do nothing but help the fact Maria might be one of the biggest threats to the Monster population.
- Otherwise, she's probably just going to be that person that always leads the charge into the most dangerous situations, anyone else who wants to come along is welcome.

Honestly, as far as Monsters go, Ritsu basically falls under the umbrella of "doesn't spend energy to be dangerous unless people he likes get threatened" - so he's probably not a bad soul to have around to help the niceties thing. He can be a little bit of a prankster (especially being a Puca), but he's ultimately harmless. Kind of like a whiny baby, except he's supposed to be 18 years old.

(He's just the kind of person who'd rather be spoiled and not have to do anything himself, okay. He's getting better about it but!! The best effort is the least amount of effort.)

Brief: One of Earth's protectors and also a space princess, Steven is trying to settle into life in Aefenglom by casually monetizing his advanced musical ability as a troubador. He likes/loves almost everyone and can be socially forward to a fault.

Event Plans:
WINTER:
Steven likes winter well enough but also Fae are weak to ice, so he may be a bit more offput than usual. Ultimately, he's bound to get sucked up in the fascination and wonder of people who have not experienced snow before. Fitting a coat over his wings is hard tho.

SUMMONING:
Steven is really invested in figuring this shit out so he'll be there, and will also be very eager to contribute. Nessie recommended him and Yako prepare for this, so he's gunna.

General Plans:
MUSICALIS:
Steven is going to work for the musical theatre that requested musicians and illusion makers, since his faerie talent for such things is getting stronger. Moving his sidewalk show to the big time, relatively speaking, aw yeah!

OTHER:
I have a LARP this weekend and then am leaving for a vacation the weekend+ after that, so the first half of July is probably not going to be great activity wise, but I'd still like to get a few new things rolling.

Event Plans: Snow and Cold in general are not something Chandra has a lot of experience with, so this is actually going to be a novel experience for her. She's going to enjoy herself, and be generally all over the place. To keep warm, she's going to start summoning some of her elemental style servants from home. Mostly things like a fire cat, which could be fun.

She'll be at the meeting, lurking. Depending on the contents, she might lose her temper, we'll see.

General Plans: Generally, Chandra's kind of settled in, and she's sticking close to the city for the time being for her housemate/castmate's sake. She's focusing most, if not all, of her free time on magic practice.

Also, written description: Iramaat is a fae creature. Like others of her heritage, she looks young perhaps in her mid- or late twenties. However, there's no indication as to her actual age, which is really anyone's guess, considering the ageless nature of fae or eleves. Her features are angular, with a slightly pointed chin, long nose and high cheek-bones. Her ears are slightly elongated and end in triangular points. Her eyes are a light blue, almost a pale grey, and regard the world with a look of cool, amused interest. Her hair is a shade of blondish red and is kept cropped short, falling just past her chin in a rather disorganized pixie cut. Further adding to her slightly alien appearance, a pair of small horns sprout from her head and curve back to end in points. On closer inspection, they seem to be made of wood and seem to have elegant patterns carved into them.

Her body is slender, athletic and rather androgynous. It's actually a little difficult to tell (at a glance) what gender she is, although closer inspection reveals that she's more feminine than not. Her arms are equally slender, although they seem to hold a wiry strength, and end in hands with long, dexterous fingers.

Her clothing is rather simple: a pair of black trousers, which are tucked into a pair of black leather boots. Above the waist she wears an moss-green, long-sleeved linen shirt, over which is belted (and buttoned) a brown-green surcoat of padded cloth and leather, which covers her from elbow to neck to knee. She wears a broad leather belt at her waist, which gives the surcoat something of a flare. The belt is adorned with a few small pouches and other knick-nacks that look like they might come in handy. She seems to be scorning jewelry for the moment, aside from a simple chain and pendant, which is usually tucked into her tunic. A thin, elegant-looking rapier is belted on her right hip.
Brief: TL;DR - an outgoing, apparently chivalrous and friendly elf-like creature who's actually something of a narcissistic, self-centered type, who wants glory and attention for herself. Willing to twist words and do what she likes to get her own entertainment. Pleasant enough, if kept at arm's length. Very unpleasant if she gets her hooks into you.
Choice: Monster! She's a faun.
Event Plans: Exploring and playing around in the snow, mostly. Maybe some spicy drinks? She's interested in meeting new people and enjoying herself. Also probably going to attend Parliament, although she may end up bored....
General Plans: Iramaat is absolutely going on quests and adventures to show off her own abilities and to get herself noticed. She wants to be a gallant knight and a heroine, so she's bending toward being as helpful as she can. As long as it helps her, too. Pretty open in general! She's a bit devil-may-care, so she's going to get into just about anything and everything. She also wants more people to pay attention to her in general. Not all that interested in solving many of the longer-term problems they're dealing with, insofar as they don't directly impact her (yet).

Event Plans:

Winter wonderland: Where she's from, Tenebrae, there was snow but she left the country and resides in Lucis at home. Lucis isn't exactly the most snowy country, so more than likely Aera will be around in various areas encouraging snow ball fights or attempting to make snowmen.

A summons:
Aera will definitely be present for this. She's going to want to learn as much as she can and take it all in so that she can figure out how to best go about helping people out in the future. And you know, to mingle in general.

General Plans: July 4th is Aera's birthday, but I think the only people who would know about that would be Somnus and Ardyn, lmao. I have no idea what I'll have her do tomorrow, though, oops. Other than that, generally just trying to meet more people and fit in the best she can.

wwx is always down to clown so he'd probably ambush people that he knows with snowballs if he gets the chance, there's just so much you can do in the snow and he'll probably have a piece of a corpse arm that he got from a previous mini event. since it's covered in ice and it's cold out.. he'll take a part of his dear friend along with him! a corpse hand that he tricks people into shaking thinking it's his hand just to see randos freak out when they grab it. he thinks because of the weather, it'd be a nice time for his friend to get a bit of fresh air! but personally down to do anything!

— aurora musicalis: wwx'll probably continue tuning his skills in both enchantment and illusions and back home his playing could raise a whole army of the dead so you know he lit on the flute. so he'll probably be playing tricks on people for the reaction and then blame it on the future event that's coming up but i'd love for him to learn songs and melodies from a variety of people to interpret in his magic because i think spells by flute is so cute. he'd do his own rendition if needed but please, if he ever learns to raise corpses.. he will use those songs for just that.

— sew and tell: he's honestly there to look pretty and chat people up, he'll attempt to carry and help with things but he'd probably search for someone to do the work for him! he's here for the enchantments as well since he does pretty good. and you're talking fashion? when this guy only wears robes? yeah, he knows some pretty good looks okay.. he got you, always gotta look cute no matter what you wear. but enchanting jewelry might work better if you don't trust his dressing taste or you can open his eyes, wwx is shameless.. enable him.

— lucky ingredients: you can get a pet octopus if you work your hands right so .. he'd probably show off the octopus that he's been able to keep. but he's wanna help others on their ingredient quests and probably get in the way.. he wants to talk to the creatures that do the riddles or you can tag along with him.. he just wants to get into mess.

Event Plans: Entrapta will be pretty uninterested in the snow once the cause of it is established, although holing up indoors more because of it may finally push her to Posting Online. She is DEFINITELY coming to the meeting on the 19th, though. She doesn't have many findings but she wants to hear as much as possible about other people's experiences!

Appearance: Tall as all hell, lean, muscled, bearded, sometimes, always wears a long coat, even during summer and carries a big stick.

Brief: That guy who charges in where angels literally fear to tread when others are in need. Savior complex and not great at asking for help, or communicating, or talking about anything but magic and paranoia. Also, semi-legitimately paranoid about everything that he does not understand. Opens doors for people, women especially.

Choice: Witch

Event Plans:

For the first one, testing his magics during the event, both medical and elemental. Protecting his plants during the freeze and swearing a lot at the witches responsible for it. Possibly throwing snowballs at them specifically, if he finds out who they are.

For the second one, plotting to get to the meeting before it starts and find a good listening and looking spot, and trying to see if he can get a good idea not only of what is said, but of who is who and who is happy or sad or angry about what is said.

General Plans: raising his herbs, searching out a doctor/healing witch to train him, and studying healing magic, as well as herb medicines, and regular medicine. Also making more connections.

Appearance: A fancy boy
Brief: Brilliant inventor son of a noble family accidentally makes pact with a demon to avenge said family's murders and invents guns, hilarity ensues. Percy has a whole lot of issues that he hides behind being very proper and very sarcastic, and woe betide if you hurt anyone he cares for. Still trying to get used to this whole magic thing despite having used (admittedly minor) spells in the past.
Choice: Witch
Event Plans: Percy's hometown of Whitestone is pretty northern, so he's used to snow and will be pretty ambivalent about seeing it here. He'll more than likely make it an excuse to find somewhere to hole up and start setting up a proper workroom for his tinkering/inventing projects.

He'll definitely be there for that meeting though, probably as close as he can get to the speakers without drawing too much attention to himself and doing a lot of listening. Percy likes information.

General Plans: As mentioned, Percy's going to be trying to set up a workshop, so he'd be interested in talking to any other inventors/mechanics/etc around about maybe getting a shared space. Or just seeing what's available. But he really wants to start working again. He's also trying to focus more on object enchantments, because man would he like to have a gun that can do magic damage again. Amongst other things.

For quests, he's going to be doing The Sorcerous Quill, because writing and also he doesn't sleep much, and Cartography, because who doesn't like a good excuse to shoot things.

Mostly he's looking to keep busy. Very busy.

Appearance: Loudly anime-colored (red eyes/pink hair) person, but with antlers now. Small ones starting to get two points on them like a mutant pronghorn, but they make her seem less tiny than she is (5'4''). And she has a tiger tail now! With feathers on the end. And more feathers all up her arms and enough in her hair to let her do the Miyazaki Hair Floof when agitated.
Brief: A taciturn-unless-specific-requirements-are-met grumpy person with a highly suspect moral compass and a surprise squishy center. Kaede keeps to herself for the most part, but she started to, like, interact and make friends last month and she doesn't know what to do with this information. She's not good at how to person.
Choice: Chimera
Event Plans: I have nothing too specific planned! Kaede might complain about all the white stuff on the ground reflecting way too much light in the daytime and being Inconvenient.
General Plans: Next up on Kaede's transformation list are her ears! They're eventually going to be deer ears, but for a little while they're going to be pointy in general and she's going to scratch them in public because they itch and this is terrible.

And they'll be mobile and pin back like a dog's if she's grumpy (which is all the time) because go expressive pointy ears or go home.

And and she might be Bonding at some point eventually with the person who helped scrape a giant spider off her face, but if that doeasn't happen before the full moons she has a nonzero chance of being a bit bitey during it.

Appearance: Tired and scruffy.
Brief: A man in his early or mid 30's, Wolf, an orphan of civil war, has spent the better part of his life in training to be a shinobi, then in bound service to a young lord by the name of Kuro. With a bit of a warped sense of individuality and self (as shinobi in his world are usually seen as living weapons or as "beasts," which is why he uses this particular name), the freedom and independence he has found in Aefenglom has been a lot for him to adjust to! So he's been making friends and acquaintances and learning more about the area and why they have arrived here and what is happening to all of them!
Choice: Monster! In a turn of events he finds very ironic, he is a wolf-flavored Turnskin.
Event Plans: I'll most likely just be tagging around! Wolf's homeland is very mountainous and cold and snowy, so this is all par for the course for him. He will also be answering the summons and attending the meeting later on in the month.

I'm still kind of sniffing around at the quests... but if anyone thinks they might want a helping hand from Wolf, I am open to that!!
General Plans: When it comes to transformation stuff, the previous full moon did not force Wolf into a full lycanthropic transformation, but it did pull a few more Turnskin features out of him! His teeth are now considerably more carnivorous, and he now has wolf ears (hell yeah). He's also beginning to get more fur growth down the back of his neck to his shoulders, but he usually covers that up with a scarf (especially if the weather is gonna be cold), so...

Also, Wolf is still as-of-yet unbonded, and even though he knows how important it is, he will still probably be kind of squirrely about it until it becomes completely apparent to him how necessary it is. (Making different oaths that seem in any way to conflict with the ones he's already made in his canon make him uneasy!) But he will probably need some help to keep him from getting too buck wild in the next few months.

Appearance: Link to a wiki gallery. Minor changes have occurred. His ears have begun to morph into elfish points, and his pupils look a bit more catlike/reptilian. His bone structure is starting to shift a little more noticeably, particularly at the shoulder blades where unsightly bumps are starting to protrude. He's growing in new, sharper teeth at his canines. His hands, wrists, and upper arms are flecked with black scale growth.
Brief: A shrewd, aloof realist with a troubled past who devoted himself to the man who showed him his first kindness as a boy. Was once the staff officer of the Greil Mercenaries and a practiced mage at that, but no longer. With fundamental tenets of his identity crumbling and rebuilding before him, he's not really sure what to make with or do with himself any longer.

Event Plans: Soren's going to find himself more sensitive to the cold than he usually is, so that will be fun! He's going to be even MORE miserable than he already is! Hooray!! Grumpy Soren!!! Oh, and uhh besides that I think I'm definitely down for the info exchange. Good thing Soren loves information!
General Plans: I think he really needs some more CR. I'm having trouble establishing him in the game, so... I just want him to branch out, meet new people, DO things! He's pretty elusive and doesn't seek companionship unless there's some underlying ~reason~ for it, so it's not UNREASONABLE for him not to make many connections, buuuuuut... come on!!! I think he should at least get to know who he's surrounded by. I also really want to get involved in like... investigations of the Cwyld or the world itself, or quests that involve that. The one in the cave looks neat, and I'm sad I missed out on the last one.

*Additional note because I brought it up last plotting post: since Ike got swept and he didn't do anything since he arrived, I'm running with the assumption that they never crossed paths/it never even happened.

Lucky Keith! This won't affect him out in the woods. However, once he realizes what a problem it's being for the city he will definitely head in and be around to lend a hand in whatever way he can. He's got a pretty good handle on his fire magic by now, though he's still working on his teleporting. It's getting there. He can manage small objects, but isn't ready to dry doing it himself just yet. He doesn't want to end up accidentally splitting himself in half or something. He is definitely happy to enchant warming stones for any of his cold blooded friends!

Oh boy, Keith is going to be there and making noise about how it wasn't very classy that they forced people out of their own homes in order to house the mirrorbound. He isn't exactly impressed by that. He'll also have some words to say about how they treat their poor and sick out in the slums.

He is Fate/'s King Arthur (the Prototype version) but he’s probably introduced himself around town as “Saber” unless he’s talking to other Servants and Mage’s Association-affiliated individuals who recognize him.

Event Plans: Thanks, he hates it! Will probably tag around a little with Winter Wonderland, but Dorian is definitely not a cold weather person--though he does love hot chocolate and spicy food. Let me know if you'd like to do something specific. He will, however, make sure to be around for the meeting at Parliament, though how much he participates will depend on what topics are brought up.
General Plans: Dorian will be out in the Wildes for about two weeks doing the Securing a Base quest along with the Iron Bull. Also participating in Out of the City, so he'll be spending a lot of time outside the Bright Wall this month, and therefore not being inconvenienced by wintery weather. Which also means he'll be attending Coven classes only sparsely, in contrast to last month, when he was there basically all the time. Instead, he'll be doing a whole lot of independent study and practice, if any other Witches spending time outside the city would like to join him in that--especially enchantment, evocation, and abjuration, which he's been studying most intently. He's also recently Bonded, so still adjusting to that!

Also: I missed the boat on the handwaved CR meme, but please know that if our characters are likely to have encountered one another before--at the Coven, during Dorian's work at Runetchers, on the Smugha cave or out of the city quests last month--that I'm perfeclty fine handwaving small interactions so we can get to more interesting CR. Appearance: L is a rangy, pale, listless young man who appears to need both a solid week of sleep and a sandwich. He's 5'10" but appears a couple inches shorter due to a pronounced slouch. He has round grey eyes and very messy black hair. He's 3/4 European and 1/4 Japanese. Overall his appearance tends to look a little bit undone and slovenly, but since Caren helped him pick out some clothing he at least sort of looks like he fits in a little better, and isn't wearing the literal most basic pieces a human being can find in any store.
Brief: Where L was from, he was the world's greatest detective. Brilliant, arrogant and childish, his social skills were horrific and it didn't matter much because he was cushioned by handlers and his reputation, not to mention a bottomless pit of money. Here, he errs on the side of "cautious and quiet;" no one knows who he actually is, and he's trying to keep it this way. Officially, his "story" is that he's a college student named Linden Tailor, his major was criminal justice, and he was interested in a law enforcement career. In Aefenglom, his long term plans that he will speak relatively openly about are working for Parliament and finding a Bond so he can deepen his practice in magic. He is notably less optimistic about the latter. He is still very hung-up on his last case and is having a difficult time moving on, making him a little more prone to melancholic moods and periods of being withdrawn and pensive.

Event Plans: L will be taking advantage of the colder weather to focus on elemental magic: ice, specifically, since the environment is so favorable. He'll also be focusing on cobbling together a set of reliable spells that he can call on with ease, spread out over various disciplines but focusing on divination. He'll be drawn to anywhere serving hot chocolate as a general rule.

L will attend the Summons, and considering his eventual ambitions, he'll be interested in contributing in a notable way.
General Plans: L's plans are pretty straightforward, but... for him, still complicated. He'd sort of like to move out of the barracks, he'd really like to find a Bond because he's reaching that point in his endless studying where the limitations of not having one are starting to be felt and experienced. To say that he struggles to trust others is an understatement; he actively considers trust a liability, but he is intelligent enough to recognize when something is a necessity. He'll be working on making his magic not only stronger but more specific and effective (read: Lexil over here is going to make a spell list with detailed info.) He's going to try not to exhaust himself and die, and as always gathering new CR is awesome.

Depending on the quests offered this month, he may move on from Runetchers, as he probably feels he's learned as much as he can here.
