App Announcements & Fourth Wall EMP!

Fourth Wall Event!
Happy almost TWO-year anniversary, Aefenglom! Similarly to last year, in May we are having a Fourth Wall Event, open to all who want to try out a character in the setting. Don't let your dreams be dreams. Keep in mind that for this Fourth Wall, characters who would not normally be appable will be allowed, except for CRAU from other games, and with the caveat of "be considerate to each other" with regards to doubles, etc. Otherwise, have fun!

The comms will be open to comments, but not posts, from characters who are not part of the game from May 4th to June 1st, and we will have posts for fourth wall characters to top level on. Fourth wall threads can be used for AC (for current characters) or samples for applications! We will have three new Monster types, Aeternae (Aef's special brand of demons), Sagani (elemental spirit-like Monsters), and Dryad (plant people), to try out as well, information for which will go live in the Bestiary on May 1st (don't mind our dust if you happen to see any broken nav links or locked pages before then!).

A fierce three-day thunderstorm at the start of Maiuril, coinciding with Boaltinn, will churn the seas off the coast of Aefenglom. Thanks to Mirrorbound heroes destroying a Cwyldheart deep in the Wilde, bringing new life to the leyline that passes under the city, magic is crackling in the air, bringing with it a sense of pressure, of precognition that something is going to happen. Not necessarily something bad, not necessarily something good, just something.

Off the coast, rocked by the furious storm, a large ship from a distant archipelago fights to stay afloat as they enter foreign waters when suddenly, they find new faces thrown onto their decks by the waves! The newcomers are all accompanied by strong ebbs and flows in the natural magic of the world, and while these foreigners don't know these folks and have never heard the word 'Mirrorbound' in their lives, they take them in. They don't have much choice - it will take a joint effort to escape the storm, but finally, the damaged ship finds safety in the harbor of Aefenglom. There, the wave-tossed might find faces they recognize, and of course, Miss Nessie and the Coven will be on-hand to welcome them and the travelers from a distant land.

At the end of the month, shiny, reflective stones like smooth mirrors will wash up on shore, and the fourth wall guests will disappear again, similar to last year. ICly they will have a gut feeling their stay is tentative, but no one will know exactly when they'll disappear. Still, that's plenty of time to explore a little, or reunite with old friends, or get to know these travelers that request refuge in this shining city by the sea.

Applications & Reserves Changes
We've had recent feedback that players might enjoy going back to a regular schedule for applications and reserves, and we think it's about time for that! We're willing to admit when something is working, when something isn't working, or when something was working but isn't any more - and we feel like our current application system is one of those things that isn't working anymore. So, starting in May, we will be going to monthly applications and reserves during set dates, following the same general schedule that they used to, with applications being in the last week of a month, with reserves a week before that. This will, we hope, allow more attention to be placed on new characters, provide a regular schedule for intros, etc. If the interest becomes too great in the future for us to handle monthly apps, then we may change to a bimonthly schedule, but currently we don't see there being any issues.

This means that Reserves will open May 18th, and Applications will be open May 25th until the 31st. We'll be updating the pages to reflect this change soon.

And finally, an EMP!
Feel free to use this post for characters you'd like to see, or to float characters you might want to bring, make plans with people who aren't already part of the game, etc! (The regular CR Meme will be for current players/characters. Fourth wall guests should use this instead.)

Aefenglom is a sex-friendly, panfandom fantasy game, set in the post-apocalyptic world of Geardagas. Character choices can affect overarching plot, and the characters' ultimate goal will be to help rebalance the world by stopping the growth of the Cwyld, a magical blight infecting both the land and inhabitants living in places left unprotected. There are many things to learn about the world and how it came to be along the way that will help in discovering both the cause of the Cwyld and how to get home.

Heya, mods! I was curious about two things;

1) I'd love to pop Everett back in briefly for the fourth wall, mostly to give some proper farewells to his CR from when he was in game. Is he allowed to pop back in as the "Aef AU" version of himself?

2) Provided the above is allowed- Hector was his bonded previously and dropped alongside him. Lisa and I had the idea that they both managed to return to Everett's world together (as Hector's canon is awful and tragic, sometimes you just want the boys to be happy). Not sure if this would break some canon of Aefenglom to reference just for the 4th wall? (I can avoid mentioning as much if not appropriate for Aef canon. Simply felt like a nice idea that Aef-versions of characters might be able to shuffle around universes after a drop.)

Tell Us More: An investigative android designed to ferret out deviation in his fellow bots, learning about the nature of humanity and what feelings are along the way.
Choice: Vampire (unless one of the new ones end up being incredibly appropriate)
Basic Plans: Mostly, having him deal with what the hell (un)living is like, and frowning deeply at magic and having emotions. And also being weird and unintentionally already like a vampire, because look he sticks blood in his mouth in half of his cases anyway. He can probably tell if you haven't been eating well if he drinks yours. Cut it out with the sweets!! Have you been to a doctor lately—
Anything Else: I am a-ok with anyone who wants to bring up the previous Connor to him! Him losing memories after previous models have died is a thing in canon and I love the idea of planting Doubt.

Basic Plans: Ryuji is a terrible student, so I think it'd be hilarious if he was assigned the role that requires a lot of studying to actually be effective.
Anything Else: I haven't played Royal or Strikers, and I'm just about done with P5, so there won't be any recent spoilers from him! This is largely me voice testing.

My OCs are one (1) cute demon and one (1) human incarnation of Death with an attitude problem.

Tell Us More: Banri Ogami is an idiot a man who gave up on being an idol, but couldn't leave the world of music. He works as a manager for Takanashi Productions, largely in charge of overseeing the duo MEZZO", and to say his relationship with the duo Re:vale is complicated would be... Generous. You see, Banri was Yuki's original partner, and he was replaced by Momo after Banri just up and disappeared on Yuki. Because Banri's an idiot.

Luna, on the other hand, is far less stupid. She's the Oracle, a divine healer, engaged to Noctis Lucis Caelum and she really just deserved better. So much better. She's kind and dignified and can speak to the gods and, really, I cannot overstate how much she deserved.
Choice: Fae for Banri, Witch for Luna.
Basic Plans: Asides from (((drama intensifies))) with castmates, I don't have much planned! Luna will want to get as involved as she possibly can, and Banri will also be wanting to keep himself busy because he's a workaholic. Please drag them into shenanigans.

From Frisk to Asgore and anyone in between (yes, even the more minor of characters!), we love to see it. I'm honestly excited to get the chance to play against anyone from either UT or DR! (Or UT characters from DR?? yes. I'll take anyone.) Layer them with even more Monster traits or slap some Witchy magic on them, see what happens. Either way you do it most characters from this canon are going to be mistaken as a Monster, so you may as well defy it with magic/veer even harder into fur and scales, right?

If it helps to know (for timeline shenanigans?), MTT is from the pacifist route! He is a Puca, so he'll have lots to say on being a Monster^2 (+robot +ghost). Having characters show up from any other routes would be Exciting. Come join the fü̵̞n̷̳͆!

Tell Us More: Trash-talking half-Shade who has dedicated her life to seeking revenge against the Shade that killed her grandmother. She's spent her life being ostracized and expects the worst from most people, which results in her being a very angry young lady most of the time— but she is always pleasantly surprised by kindness when she finds it, and has a surprising amount of capacity for it herself, though she will deny it in the name of preserving her bad reputation. Has swords, will travel, will refuse to wear anything more than underwear, that's just the deal.

Choice: Witch! Kainé already considers herself to be monstrous, so the idea of her being in a position to learn something new and potentially be able to help someone else through the difficulty that comes with feeling like you're set apart from humanity is very compelling to me.

Basic Plans: Just having fun in the setting! I might feel differently when the 4th Wall rolls around since I will have graduated by then, but since I recently had to drop Dorian and Karin is going through a lot of heavy stuff at the moment, I am most likely going to be sticking to one character in the game.

Anything Else: I had a great time with her at last year's 4th Wall and it was what brought me to this game in the first place, so I would love to at least dabble in the setting with her again! Last time she smashed up the inside of a shop upon arrival, who knows what she might break this time.

Tell Us More: Tseng is the head of the Turks although far less outrageous than his two subordinates currently in-game. Especially because she'll be one of the monsters here and that's just a little too much irony for her.

Tell Us More: Noctis is kind of an overgrown teenager in the form of a prince from Roadtrip Simulator XV. He does not act like a prince should on the regular, but learns what it takes to be a good prince after discovering his destiny. He cares and is very loyal to his friends, adores fishing, hates veggies and sleeps a lot. Basically a human cat who grows into a responsible man.

Riku is a boy who has made some big Bad Decisions (TM) in his universe, but has since done his best to make up for it. He is fiercely protective and would do anything for his friends, still struggles with his past mistakes and inner demons at times, confident and responsible and, and can be pretty sassy and awkward sometimes. He's coming in post Re:Mind so he might not be in the best of states after his bestie just poofed out of existence...

Choice: Noctis is going to be a cat Turnskin, while Riku is going Chimera (Cat-Bat-???) unless Aeternae grab my attention.

Basic Plans: Both boys are going to cry their eyes out with their own respective reunions. Not sure that Noctis is going to enjoy being an actual cat tbh. But other than that, having fun! I've always loved the premise and want to retry the game with some monsters this time.

midousuji is from the end of the 2nd day of the 42nd interhigh, though i plan to canon update him to chapter 636 in a few months! he's a witch, and he's lost without bike, bc bike is life. similar to his current canon-point, he's kind of bumbling through the horrid experiment of forming interpersonal bonds, though it's far less voluntary.. and he's struggling to get the hang on magic.

though i do plan for him to be startlingly adept specifically to fuck with people. a cast mate to enable him in a positive or negative direction would be grand!

- Laios is a certified monster freak who actively spent time dreaming about the kind of monster he'd turn into if he had a choice -- but also, he comes from a canon that's entirely about D&D dungeon crawling meets meal of the month cooking manga, so that's bound to cause all sorts of potential issues if he starts sizing up other monsters as a snacc. :D

- Moenbryda is a magical scholar who loves a good party and a good time and is also like a 6'10" tall lady with a big-ass axe who likes miniskirts. Just your average jock nerd. B)b

- Fray Myste is usually more often seen as the Warrior of Light's personal shadow, but I'd take full advantage of unappable character rules and play the Fray Myste that we only hear bits and pieces about after his death in the game. I guess its the FFXIV equivalent of playing Regulus Black from Harry Potter, idk. He's a Dark Knight who cross-classed into conjury for a bit of healing magic.

- Nero tol Scaeva is just your typical arrogant, overachieving engineer who was until relatively recently in service to an invading empire. Basically the villain from Season 1 that pops up as a """"reformed"""" ally for no other purpose than to annoy the heroes in Season 5 and remind them how simple their problems used to be.

- Yako was a highschool girl detective whose partner was a massively powerful demon that ate mysteries for sustenance! Anyway, she has an abnormally high tolerance for difficult personalities and total freaks (counting aforementioned demon as well as multiple serial killers as people she'd consider herself on friendly terms with), and has an empathetic, perceptive personality that drives her to seek to connect with other people, no matter their circumstances.

- Lambert is a witcher, trained from boyhood to be a monster killer, put through harrowing trials and mutated through magical rituals, etc etc. He's pretty bitter about all that, what with being taken from his family in exchange for a witcher saving his deadbeat dad's life. As the youngest witcher of the School of the Wolf, he can kind of be a snotty man-brat, but under that mean exterior he can be pretty sentimental and loyal. I play him mostly from the games, but I also draw on the little bit of backstory and characterization we get for him in the books!

Choice: Laios, Moenbryda, and Lambert would be monsters for sure, I'm undecided on Fray and Nero, and Yako would be a witch.
Basic Plans: NO PLANS, JUST HERE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME
Anything Else: Uhhh ten thousand years ago (approx.) before graduate school consumed me, I was kicking around Aefenglom as Yako Katsuragi topslug and Lambert whattaprick. Games are no longer for me, but I'm expecting I'll have a much-needed breather (and time) in May to horse around a little bit, so I'd love the chance to tool around in Aefenglom's setting again! Since it's been so long and I can no longer remember the details, I'm weighing between bringing Yako and Lambert without any memories of their first time here vs. 'oh no, not this again.' If I do choose to have them forget, I don't mind other people bringing up that they may have been here before; I enjoy playing that sort of (re)acquaintance.

Possibly Bringing: Goro Majima, from Yakuza 0
Tell Us More: Majima looks like a scary yakuza type, and actually is a scary yakuza type (a shocker). He's been through some Really Bad Times for the past four years, and isn't yet the "Mad Dog" that he will be known in the future, but instead "Lord of the Night", courteous and theatrical cabaret manager. Spoiler alert, he hates it, and wants back to the yakuza life for a myriad of reasons. Currently, he's having a lot of problems on that front due to his inability to commit one (1x) murder! He decides to protect his mark with his life instead, because what could go wrong?

Majima is a man of contradictions. He is a violent thug with wavering sanity, who enjoys fighting and being creative about it a little too much, and values strength— but he's also a bright and caring individual who gets very soft and protective about the team he works with in his civilian life; routinely helping people of Sotenbori in their problems, and giving surprisingly thoughtful pep-talk sessions. He's a good actor, a savvy businessman, and enjoys dancing so much that he breakdances people into concussions.

Choice: original idea was Witch, but now I'm looking at Aeternae with curiosity. Given the lore behind his tattoo, it could be a good fit

Basic Plans: No solid plans, I'm still voice testing him so I want to tag around to get a more solid grasp. And see how he fares in a in-game environment. I'm slightly undecided on canon point even within the yakuza 0 experience, as it is quite a sliding scale of "depressed and rapidly losing will to live" to "I'm gonna flip a switch and go feral"

Anything Else: it's a very serious game about crime, ok?

- Shaye is an assassin from a fantasy world who has been a cog in a machine for too long. Vicious and conflicted, she's starting to learn blood magic and can do creepy things like change her face/body to impersonate others. Is slowly learning how to be a little less messed up as a person.

- Warden Surana is a woman with regrets but a great deal of compassion, a death wish, and a hero complex. She's an elven mage and strives to help as many people as possible while also grappling with her own limitations.

- Y'shtola is a cat...lady(?) who is a scholar and great inquisitor of the world around her. Currently a black mage and formerly a healer, she's intensely interested in how magic works and how to save her home from destruction at the hands of darker forces. She's also blind but can see magic if she expends her own life force to do so. A little snarky, quite caring beneath her initially kind of aloof exterior, and a little too cavalier with her own safety.

Choice: Shaye will likely be a monster (turnskin? I'm undecided right now), Warden Surana will be either a witch or a dragon because I love suffering, and Y'shtola will be a witch.
Basic Plans: Just puttering around! I've been out of games for about a year now and would like to see if Aef would be a good fit but also to just get back into the habit of tagging.

Possibly Bringing: Ledo from Suisei no Gargantia / Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
Tell Us More: Ledo is from a society that exists entirely in space and has stripped down the experience of living to 1. war and 2. maximising efficiency to be even better at #1, so he has zero social skills and no practical skills in literally anything but being a soldier as well as other Weird Space Takes. He is usually accompanied by his AI pilot support system Chamber, who is installed aboard his Machine Calibre, which is a type of mech they have in his setting. Chamber usually helps out by translating or defining words for him, but he will have no such help here ALAS, so he will have to get by ASKING MORE WEIRD QUESTIONS.
Choice: Still deciding!
Basic Plans: Mostly I'm here to have fun and mess around in the setting because everything about dropping Ledo in places is he is a peak fish-out-of-water trope (since that's literally what his canon is haha) and I'm having a blast doing that lately with him all over. PLEASE BOTHER HIM WITH EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING PLS AND THANK YOU.

Possibly Bringing: Merisia Thenel (FFXIV OC)
Tell Us More: Merisia is a treasure hunter, former thief, arcanist, mild prankster, and kind of a nerd. She is not, however, the Warrior of Light, and she'll probably make fun of you if you suggest as much. She's prickly, slow-to-trust, and prone to sassing and insulting people, but once you win her over she's actually a fairly nice person...though you still aren't safe from her sassing. Merisia tends to rely on a more tactical approach to get ahead in a fight, favoring a variety of options rather than casting the biggest fireball she can. She grew up in the deserts of Thanalan with a family of bandits, running away from home to be an adventurer at a fairly young age. You won't hear any legends being told about her any time soon, but she can hold her own fairly well.
Choice: Monster (Looking at either Dryad, Fae, Naga, or Sagani)
Basic Plans: Merisia is both proud of her skills in magic and reliant on them given her lack of physical strength...so there's some glorious character development to be had with not only completely turning her current knowledge upside-down, but vastly narrowing her options to something she can't change and might not be too happy about. (i.e. She's not exactly a fan of the forest, so being a Dryad would be The Worst for her.) Other than that, just having fun with the setting of the game!
Anything Else: Since Merisia isn't the Warrior of Light, she won't be familiar with any of the main story NPCs, nor will she have a whole lot of knowledge about the main story. She has, however, gone treasure hunting in many of the same locations and wondered why all of the chests are already empty.

Tell Us More: Childe is one of the 11 Harbingers, elite agents of the Fatui, who make up a weird cult slash pseudo-military from Fantasy!Russia that wants to Fight God and Win. He also tumbled down a hole as a kid and went on a weird Ajax in Wonderland adventure, except Wonderland is full of monsters who used to be people until they got cursed-slash-infected with something kind of like the Cwyld. Did alchemy do that or did God do that? We aren't sure. Either way, he learned how to become a monster too, which he thinks is pretty cool and definitely isn't going to bite him in the ass later down the line.

Choice: Aeternus! Sure, the guy is water-aspected in canon, but I'm more interested in how this particular monster transformation plays with the side of him that craves chaos and bloodshed, and if he'll lean into it or realize that woah, this is a little too much, maybe dial it back there? Also his third boss phase is literally called "demon king transformation" in the original chinese so uuuuuh

Basic Plans: I'm just here to fuck around and find out! No real plans to app, since I can't really do a game right now.

Anything Else: I used to play in Aef with another character and always enjoyed the world and mechanics, so I thought I'd drop in for a visit for the fourth wall!

Zhongli: One of the oldest immortals and one of the two original remaining archons of Teyvat. Zhongli is a well learned and polite gentleman who used to be the God of Liyue. He is known as the God of Contracts/Geo Archon/Morax/many names but has shed that identity to be the average citizen; Zhongli. He has a tendency to ramble and speak at length over the many things he knows. He's dependable and a man who looks at things with a more pragmatic eye.

Karna: Knowns as the Hero of Charity and son of a Sun God. He is a hero and foil to Arjuna. His life has been filled with misfortune until his eventual death. Despite that, Karna holds no heavy, negative emotions of any kind. He can come off aloof and boring as he is constantly deep in thought. He is a kind soul who cares about others, but does not seek anything in return.

Kiehl: Kiehl is my FFXIV character. He isn't a WoL, but merely a native within Eorzea. He's half Raen/half Xaela with his father hailing from Sui-no-Sato and his mother being from the Oronir tribe. He was raised amongst the Sylphs of Little Solace in the forest region. Kiehl is a very patient man, but rather hard to get along with. He's got quite a bit of dry humour and isn't particularly fond of others. He does have a soft spot for children though.

Nicolas: A handyman of Benriya. Nicolas is a half Twilight who used to be a mercenary, but now does odd jobs with Worick. He's aloof and prefers to keep to himself. He can't hear and dislikes speaking (but can). He's quite blood thirsty and loves to fight, but has shown to be kind to those he cares about.

Basic Plans: I've been out of games for quite awhile now, but I'd like to dip my toes and see if I can handle a game setting. I won't be bringing everyone in since there's no way I can handle four muses simultaneously, but I'd like to try one or two out to see how I jive.

To be honest, I've been considering Zhongli for a long time, but I just haven't had much time to commit to RPing. The newest Zhongli chapter that released has really rekindled my want to play him though, so I'll most definitely be bringing him, but I'd like to touch on one of the others listed!

Tell Us More: I was enabled via RPanons because I heard there are Adult Female Characters available for friendships! It's not the most uncommon, but I really enjoy getting to play out female friendships (especially between fighter types) and I rarely manage to get to since older women tend to not be the preferred demographic in DWRP!

Obviously... not the only thing... I'm interested in... But I like writing shenanigans, action and expeditions (especially mysteries and exploration and things like dungeon-crawling), as well as SOL bonding and characters slowly opening up to each other in ways that are more earnest. With Jill I lean the most toward action and with Frank I tend to lean more toward him just being a terrible shit (and love having both put in mentoring positions). In regard to the Fallout characters I play, I really enjoy getting them used to the setting being better than the wasteland they come from.
Choice: Jill's a witch! Mostly, it has to do with control and regaining it after RE5 for her. I'm not sold on what I'd choose for Frank because the choice depends on what would be funniest and/or most miserable for him. :')
Basic Plans: Have some fun, hit some requests for players on the kinds of scenes they might be interested in or CR types they may want (both Jill and Frank can be easy and difficult so it really depends on preferences/how characters get on!). I'm going to post on the fourth wall network shortly and get to actiony things later.

Please feel free to request specific things from me if I haven't (or if I have) gotten to the action post first.

As mentioned previously, I'm equally into dumb shenanigans as I am exploration or more serious things although the latter might take some effort to unlock that achievement with Jill. I'm definitely willing to have something come up and find a reason to bond rather than make it difficult or impossible, however!

I'm absolutely interested in female friendships for Ciri, and sparring buddies -- seems like Jill would be a good fit for both!

I also play two other characters here: Waver from Fate/Zero and Killua from Hunter x Hunter. Waver is a dog Turnskin who used to be a mage in his world and hates not having magic now. He's a nerd. Killua is a stupidly overpowered shounen anime. Ex-assassin, now full time gremlin teen. He's also newly one of the Aeternae, so he's gonna be turning into a little demon, aptly enough.

I don't know anything about Frank, but if you decide to take him for a spin on fourth wall too, lmk! I'm sure I can throw someone at him too. The more the merrier!
