March Mirrorbound Council Post

Welcome to the Mirrorbound Council discussion post for the month of March! This is the space to discuss IC concerns from your characters that can be brought to Parliament by members of the Mirrorbound Council. Here are some quick facts!

• Membership in the Mirrorbound Council is open, so if your character is the type to get involved, you're more than welcome to sign up here.
• More information on the Council's history, current members, and motions can be found here.
• Each motion must be cosigned by 3 Council members.
• Each council member can only cosign 1 motion per month.
• As a result, there may be months where not all motions can be raised. In that case, motions will be brought to Parliament in the order of greatest IC support to least IC support.
• To suggest an IC motion, please post to the most appropriate heading below. Make sure to list the name of the character who would suggest it so they get credit!
• To support an IC motion, comment to the motion with either "+1" or some other indication of your character's support. There's no limit on how many motions each character can support, so be sure to check the whole post!
• All characters can suggest and support motions ICly — not just Council members! Consider this post an OOC representation of an open-forum style discussion open to all Mirrorbound. The goal is to get as many people involved as possible, both ICly and OOCly, so don't hesitate to chime in!
• The deadline to submit motions is March 15th. After submissions close, Council members will attach their names to motions and submit them to the mod team by March 25th.
• All OOC ideas and suggestions are welcome as well, so please hit us up!

OCTOBER

Spawning from a discussion about improvements to the living conditions within the city, for the Outer City, there was a large discussion about the limitations and barriers to effectively addressing the needs of that part of the population. Some of this was purely ooc and player obtained information, but some of the discussion is a bit handwavey communication between characters. Those involved so far (in addition to the a-Pharaoh-mentioned character at the top of this) were Jin Guangyao, Leslie, Near, and Heralia. It is a lot to summarize briefly, so it is encouraged to read the thread for more details, but to provide the broad strokes: some ideas were generated about potential quests to improve relations between the Mirrorbound and the Outer City; there was a brief discussion about how to continue making in-roads with Parliament for both the Outer City and Residential District, including some less than savory ways (i.e. stabbing with plausible deniability) involved; it was confirmed that Parliament functions primarily on nepotism; and there were some ideas kicked around about how to actually provide more protection to the Outer City. Although only brought up briefly before most were distracted by talking about what to do for the Outer City, Jin Guangyao did bring up the idea of developing more improved relations with the Underground, primarily through the Monster Mirrorbound. Top-comment here is what is most relevant.

JANUARY

Initially brought up in August, Ozymandias speculated that improvements within the city may open the door to making improvements to the Outer City. He began making preparations for this motion with Edelgard and saw it brought to the Parliament floor with Leslie (the Council's littlest and newest member!) and Myr. This motion was able to pass and Ozymandias announced the prospects on the network here.

Myr, inspired by Momo's post to the network, has begun thinking about how to better serve the Monster population of Aefenglom. Although there is a natural focus on the Mirrorbound, this may have a more widespread application to those who have been orphaned and do not have their parents to guide them through. Given all the things that can happen while one is adjusting to and experiencing changes related to being a Monster. Most may be feeling a little at a loss, confused, or scared. FEBRUARY

The motion regarding research into the Mirrorbound that was brought forth by Mettaton and supported by Myr, Jin Guanyao, and Ozymandias failed! The tl;dr is that Parliament is feeling skeptical of the Mirrorbound coming forward asking for money for what they are beginning to feel are pet projects. They also feel this is an issue related to the Coven and speculate that the Mirrorbound Council may be acting at the behest of the Coven rather than their own interests. On an OOC note, I am going to be leaving the game at the end of the month. Sign-ups for taking over this post can be found here. There is still plenty of time to toss your hat in if you're interested, and Skai has already brought up some potential ideas regarding the future of this post. I already said it in my private messages to notify players participating in the Council, but it has been an absolute joy working on this with y'all! It's such a unique experience and definitely been a highlight of my time here.

So as I mentioned in the Discord, this is a really interesting failure and one that probably warrants some strategizing on the Council's part! Since it sounds like they're getting themselves into a position where they're going to need to provide more than they're asking for from Parliament.

This would ordinarily be Myr's jam, but he's a little uh, scrambled this month. Nevertheless it's something I'd be interested discussing at more length with people.

I've still got the Monster classes thought on the back burner, too--but the more I think about that the more I feel like that's something the Council could work on organizing without actual recourse to Parliament, since it's another thing that would look like a "pet project" to Parliament's human members.

Jumping off of that--plus some, uh, interesting developments from the cult plot that have pitted some Councilmembers against each other--while I don't think the Mirrorbound Council should necessarily step up as a ruling/organizing authority for the Mirrorbound (because that always, inevitably, goes incredibly badly in every DWRP game ever), they could discuss transitioning to a more active structure for helping coordinate Mirrorbound activities and look out for Mirrorbound interests.

Case in point, the Coven did kind of sic the Mirrorbound on yet another bad guy the Coven and Parliament had their hands tied over, and it did not work out great--pretty much all the Mirrorbound involved are now some degree of traumatized. Sooo perhaps some discussion of that is also in order?

idk it is late and these thoughts are somewhat disorganized, but have them!!
