The Salvation of Geardagas: Part I



The Salvation of Geardagas is an event of two halves, with part one taking place from the 15th of January to the 10th of February, and concluding with part two from the 10th to the 15th of February!

Three things precipitate a change in Aefenglom: a handful of mysterious pamphlets, a strange and ever-growing list of the missing and even stranger reappearances.

Locals, particularly those from poorer districts, have been disappearing. Up until now, investigators have been forced to admit defeat; with no evidence or witnesses, there’s very little they can do but add them to the pile of individuals who have apparently vanished into thin air. Members of the council might already be aware of this problem but it’s largely been kept quiet to avoid panic.

That all changes on the evening of the 14th of Ieneuer. A harpy not seen since she ended her shift at work the week before turns up in the middle of the shopping district completely corrupted by the Cwyld. The same happens with another missing local. And another. All three were beyond the efforts of even the most skilled of the Coven’s witches and either had to be subdued or died during attempts to save them.

But the next survives. For better or worse, the victim remembers nothing of his ordeal but once he has suitably recovered, a clue finally comes to light. A tattoo on his palm- and it’s the symbol of a group that the Coven is already aware of.

The Evergreen Circle has been growing in popularity among the wealthy in Aefenglom. A cult by any other name, their main public beliefs are centred on hope, the salvation of Geardagas through their leader Cillian Alder and “intellectual study” of the Cwyld and its effects. In spite of their eccentric preaching and fascinations, they’ve only been a mild- if morbid- blip on the Coven’s radar since their emergence. That suspicion has finally blossomed into something substantial.

With this new piece of evidence, the Coven has no choice but to look into them more deeply. Of course, they’re wary of moving in too aggressively and openly and so have asked the Mirrorbound to investigate and report back: which is where you come in.

INVESTIGATION:

Mirrorbound have been asked to infiltrate the Evergreen Circle’s meetings in order to find out more. It’s not going to be easy: they’ll need to come up with a good story or find a way to sneak around without being noticed, and try and maintain their cover throughout the evening. How they do this is up to you.

At the player’s discretion, they can either succeed and find out more (feel free to NPC members and drop any questions below), or fail and face more immediate consequences upon being discovered, ranging from being kicked out or targeted for attacks.

Some, however, will be forced to become members through an enchantment that works as a kind of mind control. This means that they will continue going to meetings regardless of their investigation, defend the cult aggressively and become considerably less careful when it comes to the Cwyld. Also, do you like trying to recruit your friends? Because that sure is a thing they’ll do! Any Mirrorbound who interacts with the cult directly can be targeted for this.

Additionally, two characters will be able to question Alder directly through a thread. This will be decided through RNG with sign-ups below!

KIDNAPPING:

Throughout this period, characters also have the option of thwarting kidnapping attempts both on themselves, other Mirrorbound and/or on locals. Additionally, they can find victims after they’ve been thrown back out on the street: containing outbreaks of the Cwyld within the city is as much a priority as preventing, so the Coven needs as many capable hands on deck as possible. It’s entirely up to the player’s discretion whether the attackers are caught and infected victims are saved or not.

However, things will kick up a gear around the 10th of February: characters can be successfully kidnapped by the cult from this point on depending on the player’s preferences. More information about this will be available in February, before the start of part two.

Any Mirrorbound can take get involved in this part of the event, regardless of whether they interact with the cult or not.

Event Plans: DEFINITELY INVESTIGATING THAT CULT DIRECTLY since, well, he's good at talking to people about matters of belief and religion. (Might be be just a little bit susceptible to cults? MAYBE.) He's less equipped for directly rescuing kidnapped folks or sneaking around, but his earnestness (and perhaps willingness to go along with things Quite A Bit) may make him good at ferreting out information... and maybe acting as an inside agent? WE SHALL SEE.

Brief: A hunter from a place where you kill werewolves, not marry them. Still, she's had some character development, gone through a few rough mental health patches, and nearly died a dozen times, though the worst was a couple months ago. Still, she's fairly cold and standoffish, a bit curt, and generally harder to get to know unless you make a really good first impression. She prefers the company of witches and more human-looking folks than otherwise, but she has gotten a bit better at interacting with Monsters. She lives in a big house with a huge garden and if you're nice she'll give you flowers and/or booze.

Event Plans: Here's the thing... Maria's not super attached to the populace of Aefenglom and barely cares either way. So she will be doing some light investigation. Most of it will probably be getting information from her CR that are going to be sticking their necks out and compiling it and just... keeping a finger on this. Right now, they're still trying to figure things out, and so there's not much actionable going on. It doesn't super affect her personally, but she doesn't want this to become a problem like before with the Snatched thing, so she will be watching out... but otherwise not doing a whole lot.

If other people want to drag her into things, she makes a good bodyguard, and she's more likely to go along with it, but for the most part... she's not going to initiate things herself, nor bother much with looking too hard into it. Next month may well end up with her doing something for pt. 2.
General Plans:
General:
Who wants to be a booze taste tester? Maria's getting into homebrew distillation efforts for hard alcohols like gin, and perhaps a bit of mead now that she can harvest honey! She is down for sharing it. She's mixing minor magical effects into some of the brews, but doesn't leave it a surprise if they have them in there. I might have her make a post here shortly to announce the need for customers or taste-testers!

Housing:
Maria lives in The Haunted Mansion, one of the bigger houses of the Haven. There, she has plenty of grounds to make her gigantic garden, there's the horse paddock out back with both her horses, and plenty of room for two petalwolves and two sand hyenas to roam about. That said, there are plenty of bedrooms unoccupied! So it's perfectly possible for people who are looking for better digs to ask her about it! Just be sure you can get along with two murderers... cuz there's two of them in the house.

Bonds:
Maria's doing alright here. She has a permanent Bond, again! But I am down for more. She's fine with any further combinations of Monsters or Witches since she has the one balancing force she needs.

Going whole-hog on infiltrating the cult -- the full details of which is TBD, but in addition to info-gathering this is a good opportunity for him... because he has a short list of people to recommend for kidnapping and experimentation and (hopefully in his mind) death. I already pinged those on Plurk but I think there's at least one taker on a kidnap-recommendee so far. So that's fun! He'll be doing his best to cozy up and relay info out anonymously... once he's made those little suggestions, anyway. Alteratively theer are definitely a few people he likes who could potentially get advance warning on the kidnapping front, perhaps?

Like I said some details not totally set (since things need to be sorted out in regard to his Bond too) but open to other things if you need a guy on the inside. This isn't his first infiltration rodeo, lol.

I think joining a cult will probably disrupt some everyday type plans! Prior to the event though, I have him helping up at the Northern Outpost for a while -- and cult membership doesn't preclude other plans, just... he might be playing up it for deep cover, please understand.

Event Plans: Alice isn't one for subterfuge, so she will focus her efforts on dealing with the missing people and related uptick in Cwyld infections inside the city. She has focused on Abjuration and Divination in Aefenglom, so she would prefer to work alongside a more offensive fighter and/or mage in order to subdue infected persons for healing or a mercy kill. Who wants to help her fight Shades?

Vex is a half-elf ranger who Loves Her Pet Bear Trinket very much. She's VERY perceptive and exceptionally charming when she puts her mind to it (beware of persuasive winking!). Currently works part time shifts with the Wilders, both to support the defence of the outer city and working in the Wildes. When not aiding the Wilders, she can be found handling finances as the Forge's accountant, since everyone else who works there is really bad with money.

Speaking of said forge: she's bonded to the two wizards who run it: Percy de Rolo (Just Friends, Honest! dokis what dokis) and Hiccup (platonic sibling bond).

Event Plans:
• Vex will be quite concerned by the news, especially with the victims returning infected to such a degree. She'll likely offer her aid for searching for them, being a tracker!
• She's certainly curious about the cult, but she likely won't make too many attempts at in-roads there. She will however been keeping an eye on anyone who looks suspicious for voting out the airlock later.
• There will be a failed kidnapping attempt while Vex is a full dragon near the end of the month...
• ..Followed by a successful ambush on Feb 10th, whoops.
• Cwyld infection for Trinket is definitely on the table, though he did get an enchant upgrade for his armor to protect against it. We shall see.

General Plans:
• I plan to have a dragon post next full moon, that includes flying lessons and shape changed shenanigans. It will have a prompt for the failed kidnapping attempt while she's fully changed - open to aid to defend/free her from capture, or perhaps you're going all in and part of the team responsible for the attempt?

Investigation: Vanitas will definitely want to look into it. It's not that he much cares about what's going on outside of his little circle. Not that he cares about people at large or about people disappearing. Rather Vanitas just doesn't like threats on his doorstep. So that's why he'll be going and poking around. Not entirely sure about mind control stuff or not, but I'd definitely be up for playing around with others and getting caught!

Kidnapping: So yeah I've been looking forward to an event that will enable me to do this for a while. Van WILL be getting kidnapped! Time for Van to be a damsel in distress instead of his Bondmates.

General Plans:
Umm... I haven't done any open logs, but I might change that? This month I've been thinking about tagging out more. However I'm very much open to doing things with people. With Lavi gone, he's at 2/3 bonds. He might be looking for someone sooner or later to fill that void because he'll find that he doesn't like the emptiness there already. Got too used to it, you know? So he might be a little grouchy and irritable. More so than he has been the last couple of months.

Event Plans: Rikku's attitude toward religious movements like this already isn't great, so she trusts this Cillian Alder guy about as far as she could throw him. That said, she'll smile her way into the meetings just to learn what's up, at which point she'll be even less keen on the whole thing. From there, she'll be fighting back as her friends start getting kidnapped--that isn't the kind of thing she'd take lightly at all. She'll make sure there's hell to pay.

Also, depending on her interactions with mind-controlled characters she wouldn't be above reversing the kidnapping gambit and locking up someone she's determined has gone off. Sometimes you have to lock people up for their own protection, you know? (Obviously, I wouldn't do that without coordinating with the other player.)

General Plans: She's also starting her Wilder training this month! She is here to kick Cwyld butt!

Hello! I am new and we have no CR yet but I am totally going to be getting this girl brainwashed and hyping up how wonderful the cult is and that everyone should join. So if you would like some new CR would be happy for your girl to meet up with her and be all "what the hell is wrong with you" and lock her up. She has two canon mates here that can help explain she's not normally like this (or if you like conflict try to bust her out).

BUT would absolutely love to work this from a "oh hell no" to friendly CR if Rikku can ever get past how much of a brainwashed weird she would be at first meeting.

Event Plans: Oh she's getting kidnapped when it happens. She'll be stopping others from happening earlier and with all that work, she'll be prone to getting taken. Also, Mira hasn't gotten truly tortured yet so now's her chance.

General Plans: This month is also her birthday (two days ago actually) but given the event and Snatched last year, she's deciding her birth month is cursed because of it now and why celebrate it? I don't have many plans for her except to maybe make a network post asking about anyone knowing anyone who can make bullets that can hold magic since she has her gun from home.

Bondwise, she is at one out of three and...well, she won't ask because she doesn't trust herself after the last two Bonds she's had to ask anyone for it. But if it's something your character would be interested in, we can chat about that. Just that it'll take some time before she'd consider it.

But overall, I feel like I'm at a loss with Mira and a sense of direction. She needs friends to drag her out for fun times and to be a social person even if it's just chatting on the couch drinking tea. Less hero things since this world has plenty of them and more being an actual person and having a healthy mindset.

- Sora isn't the sneaky type so he would not be very good at the investigation section of this event but he'll be more than concerned for the missing people. He'll more than likely get his nose into some trouble if anyone wants to get caught!
- He is a good fighter so if any trouble occurs he'll be ready to jump right in.
- His bondmate is going to be kidnapped, Sora will be getting very aggravated when this happens! He will grow semi-feral and aggressive in order to get him back! He'll fight tooth and nail! If anyone wants to team up with a very angry rabbit!

General Plans:

- Sora has an open log over here with some general quests and prompts! There is some stray magic, outpost repairs, face painting with monster kids and some house prompts.
- Helping with Kor Meteor's magic, testing out some emotional healing through magic!
- Sora will be bonding with Roxas this month!
- He's getting a bit sensitive to magic, too much of it makes him sneeze this month.

🔥 i have loose plans for eren to be kidnapped for part two of the event, so i’m going to take things at a comfy pace for this month! he’s sure to get into some investigating here or there that i wouldn’t mind playing out with those interested in information sharing, but he will look more toward keeping a better eye on the children at the orphanage so they don’t suffer the same fate (i’m interested in writing that, i’m a fan of action) 😞 if he sees anyone getting kidnapped too as an attempt, he’ll probably jump in now that he has access to his abilities again, so that’s also an open possibility!

Brief: Momo is a 26 y/o veteran of the idol group Re:vale, who are the reigning top of the music industry in his country back home. He's kind, thoughtful and caring, but years of being in an industry like entertainment and having to drag his and his partner into the spotlight also means he's very cunning, excellent at reading people, and manipulative in some ways (usually just to subtly edge things in his favour or make himself look more innocent/not as sharp as he actually is). He's violently overprotective of his loved ones and has self-worth issues the size of a house that he's only just started to pick through.
Choice: Witch (largely specialising in Illusion, Abjuration and Evocation)
Event Plans: SO Momo is 100% out here to investigate whatever the heck is going on here and this kind of thing is definitely his comfort zone - socialising with people and subtly pressing them to tell him more useful info than they intended is pretty much his bread and butter back home. This means he may be able to "save" other people from blowing their cover if they get into trouble, but that said, since there's no risk to the investigators' life yet he's not going to do it at the cost of his own cover, so get in too deep and he'll have to leave you to flail. He has also had a fun fun anti-mind control tattoo since not long after he arrived, so he'll be getting to put that to good use if they try to enchant him into joining - and quite possibly just pretend he's been taken in by it during meeting times so they're less suspicious of him.

Momo will also 100% be foiling kidnapping attempts but he'll have to do it disguised if he's playing the long con, which won't really be too much of an issue since he's been doing illusion magic for the entire almost-year he's been in the game. Once there's no risk of him being busted by the cult then he might hint/show his identity to any Mirrorbound he rescues (or helps with rescuing locals), but he'll also be a bit cautious about that with people he doesn't already know because he won't know if they're likely to sell him out.

I am very likely to have him kidnapped for the second half of the event, because I like a good kidnapping event and it's about time something big nasty happens to him during an event that's not just a bunch of fight injuries.
General Plans: I'm still looking at quest stuff for the month - currently I'm interested in Modelling Play, Memory Scramble (probably backdated to the first half of the month at this point), and Wet 'n' Wilde, as well as his usual Out of the City activities. Will die for that friend, and it isn't a stretch to say that he has devoted himself completely to him. Now he is a dragon, and his transformation has made certain details of his troubled childhood rise to the surface of his appearance. He is difficult to get close to, but please don't let that stop you from trying.

Event Plans:
I haven't yet decided whether I want Soren to be kidnapped or not. It's a shame his power-limiter is no longer on; otherwise, it would have been easy to envision him being defeated and kidnapped. I could extend the limiter's wear for about a week just so I could force him to need help fending off an attacker. If someone is interested in playing the role of a savior, please hit me up! I would be happy to plot with you.

^ If the above scenario happens, this will force Soren's interest in the happenings just a little earlier. I also want characters to proselytize to Soren because I imagine it will be funny. Bonus points if he knows who you are and would know you're completely off your rocker and would never be acting like that or so deeply involved in such things. If your character is getting involved with the cult or has their own infiltration scheme going, I'd also be happy to have them relay some of that information to Soren so he gets a broader picture of what's going on.

If you want Soren to come to your character's rescue, I could also arrange that. Depending on the character, of course...

I am also interested in investigation! One of Soren's strengths is gathering information, and he's very careful about how he approaches things. Depending on who he partners with, he'll be able to come up with a plan to snoop about while remaining undetected. I imagine having more than two characters involved in a log/thread could be fun, and giving different characters different specialties/ways to shine is what I am envisioning. Maybe your character is good at making distractions to help another sneak around? Or maybe there's a handy spell at your character's disposal that could aid in achieving a certain goal?

I'm going to wait on what happens later down the road, because I think the climax is more where I'm thinking of placing intensive focus. I haven't decided whether I want Soren kidnapped or not, or whether I want him to try and interfere with the Circle's weird plague worship plans. Let me know if you want to play with me and Soren in any regard, or have any other ideas that you want to try and pull off! Mostly I feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants here.

General Plans:
Earlier in the month (approximately before the 15th), he will not have his draconic powers (no strength, no transformation capabilities, etc.), so if you would like to backdate something involving that, we can do that. Otherwise, he will be happy to no longer be stuck doing time for the Coven for being a delinquent dragon with Eren.

As far as quests go, I'm not really interested in any of them save for Wet 'n' Wilde, and possibly Memory Scramble. Here is a quick link to the quests for convenience. For Memory Scramble, Soren is obviously not going to play the part of a healer, but if we can figure out a way to get him mixed up in the problem, he can help with the investigation stuff, or at least be a sounding board for the character who is doing the quest proper. Otherwise, he would not sign up on his own accord.

Event Plans: I am definitely up for him investigating. He would certainly do such a thing and would want to try and solve the issue, if not to help people than to say that he did. Event Plans: I got him a top-level already already, and my general plans is that he does fall under the influence of the enchantment. How far it goes with the whole brainwashing thing, I haven't really decided and I'm fine with rolling whatever happens. General Plans: 2020 was in general, awful, and the latter portion of the year turned to be quite intensely bad over here... so I ended vegetating for the latter portion of the year.

I've got the intention to dive right back in, and I'm excited for what things this plot might bring? More in general, Reno is going to need a Witch Bond, though it's not a very pressing issue for him, since he's Bonded with Rude and comfortable in that. Whether it would go through a slow-burn "we shall see how it goes" or straight through the business arrangement he'd be prone to ("everyone wins") I'm always open for possibilities.

Event Plans: i'd like him best to assist with any returning victims after their kidnapping and/or thwarting attempts at it in particular, as he'd shine best there. he's a doctor (kinda) and has been going to magic school (kinda) so he will do his utmost to help anyone that's suffering with healing and probably leeches. also will throw himself into harm's way to protect people without the vaguest consideration for his own safety, which very well could result in him getting kidnapped instead........ i'd be down for that too! julian once had a magical mark placed on him in canon that rapidly healed him of any sickness or injury and also allowed him to heal others by taking those afflictions onto himself, and he does not realize he doesn't still have it yet—would love to do something with that. (taking a blow meant for someone else thinking he can just walk it off only to wind up horribly cursed? hell yeah. alternatively, ANGST over not being able to just fix people with a snap of his fingers anymore. good shit.)

i'd also be happy to have him join in investigations alongside someone else—he tends to just Wind Up getting involved in shit so it'd be a pretty easy matter for him to come upon someone else and just be like 'oh really? let me help you' so we can make an easy case for this and some brand new cr at the same time :3 (or if they've interacted previously, all's the better!)
General Plans: i must come clean and admit i've been completely absent for like a month and a half; life has been absolute hell and now i'm desperately struggling to get back into the game :sob: this event couldn't have come at a better time!

julian is on his third month and has no bonds, and as a witch that means he's probably more than just a bit unstable. haywire magic and an absolute fucksplosion of anxiety because he's just Like That about magicky stuff already makes for someone who really could use some help. i'm down for absolutely anything in regards to that. julian falls for people at the drop of a hat, whether they're good for him or not. (honestly especially if they're not.) also, again, tries to save people constantly so if he finds out the other person could use his help? he's all over it. ask questions later. what's the worst that could happen.

i'd also just be delighted for more cr in general, of all sorts!

hello! Waver here had some cr with Julian in a previous iteration, so if you're interested in playing with that at all, we can plot something. Waver will not be getting involved in the culty stuff, but just in general! Waver is a former mage now Monster, who owns a magic tattoo parlor that gives temporary magic to Monsters and is overall kind of a grumpy nerd with generally good intentions. If not, I'm totally happy to have him conveniently forget previous CR if that's not comfortable for you.

I'm also happy to offer my other character, Killua, who will be nosing around the cult. Killua is a mouthy teen from a stupidly OP family, so he's used to just... being able to handle everything. I'm looking to get him in over his head. :^)
