Last month's return of the Masquerade thrown by Louis proved to be a massive hit among Mirrorbound, a time to get dolled up and forget your worries for a night. Later, more items came through the mirrors along with a handful of new Mirrorbound; there was a bit of a mishap with getting everything back in order, but it was done! Eventually all the assorted things found their way back to their original owners, and all of Emmelie's 'flying saucers' have been decommissioned so they no longer cause any chaos within the city.

Noveuer has passed, ushering in chill breezes and light snowfall, and...

A Friendly Competition (14th-16th)

As Deceuer rolls in and the weather remains relatively decent around Aefenglom and through most of the known areas of the Wilde, the Wilders themselves are noticeably more upbeat, excited about something. "Rilla Sparks is organizing a Scavenger Hunt this year," they're all too delighted to report, adding that there hasn't been one in a good five or six years due to weather, low numbers, or minor conflicts. But with many Mirrorbound exploring the Wilde alongside them, they have enough people and good enough conditions. The fliers for it show up a day or two later, plastered anywhere the Wilders tend to congregate, and on the Haven's bulletin board.

The Not-So-Annual Grand Scavenger Hunt!

Open to sign-ups now! Singles welcome, if you don't have a buddy, one will be found for you! This year it's a friendly competition between our homegrown Wilders VS our Mirrorbound brethren! A treasure-trove of prizes lay on the line! Only venture into the Wilde and collect any of the items on the list we'll give you on the day of, and contribute toward a team victory! Fun for the whole family!*

* Not fun for entire family. Wilde experience is helpful, mortal danger is always a possibility outside Bright Wall. Safety measures will be provided but by signing up for The Not-So-Annual Grand Scavenger Hunt, you agree not to hold the Wilders responsible for injury or infection gained during the competition due to forces of nature.

Designed to test Wilders' skills in different areas such as combat, tracking, mapping and navigating, foraging, and knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Wilde, the Scavenger Hunt frames it all as a game, with prizes for the winning team at the end. Teams, in this case Wilders VS Mirrorbound, separate into pairs or groups of 3 and set out into the Wilde with a bare-bones map and a list of items to hunt. These can be animal parts (creatures will not be harmed!), plants, stones from different locations within the Wilde, or anything else, all difficult to get, and all kept secret until the morning the hunt begins. The team whose pairs or groups bring back the most items (duplicates still count) within 48 hours wins the competition and each winning-team participant will get to choose a prize from a range of enchanted or rare objects that are quite helpful during explorations, or can be sold for some major cunes.

While the organizer of the event recommends having prior Wilde experience, it isn't required, so new Mirrorbound may participate as well! If you don't have anyone to sign up with, well, we'll pair you spares! And as always, Bonds, temporary or otherwise, are of course recommended, but not a requirement. Just be careful out there - the Wilde is dangerous, even on a good day, and the Wilders are competitive. They aren't above a little non-lethal, friendly sabotage!

December's event is The Grand Scavenger Hunt! With decent weather and bolstered numbers, it's Mirrorbound VS Wilders in a friendly competition to see whose wilderness skills reign supreme!

How It Works: Characters may sign up ICly in pairs/trios, or as singles to be paired before the competition. OOCly, this means you can pre-plan your pair/group, OR sign up below to be RNGed into pairs if you're looking for some new CR! Characters will not be allowed to participate solo. That doesn't mean you can't lose track of your partner and meet up with different characters out there, but no one may enter the competition as a solo act. Since the Mirrorbound are all technically a team, whether characters choose to work together or treat it as competition with each other is also up to you!

There will be prizes at the end, based on participation. On January 1st, we'll put up an OOC post detailing the prizes available, which will be an assortment of enchanted or useful items that could come in handy on an expedition (or can be sold for good cash money if so desired), and anyone who can produce an in-progress or completed thread that proves their character participated in the scavenger hunt will get to choose one. Threads do not have to be finished, just a handful of comments is fine! You just can't totally handwave involvement.

If your character isn't particularly combat-oriented, don't worry! The challenges will test not just combat, but a variety of skills, such as tracking, using knowledge of the flora and fauna, navigation and cartography, fishing, hunting, foraging, marksmanship, flying, magic, or other talents that don't involve fighting deadly beasts. Anyone can participate.

Modranicht (21st-23rd)

Late in the month, the winter holiday of Modranicht arrives, officially beginning on the 21st. These three days are a time of being with loved ones, feasting, and gift-giving, and it's a holiday full of well-loved traditions, such as decorations and gift-giving. Many people adorn their homes with greenery - such as holly, ivy, mistletoe, yew, and pine, and yes, kissing under the mistletoe is definitely a thing around these parts. In fact, the city is again absolutely littered with sprigs of enchanted mistletoe, hung in doorways and arches, tacked up to walls, and elsewhere. When two people stand underneath it, they are rooted to the spot and lightly compelled to kiss each other, whether it be on the lips, cheeks, foreheads, hands, or elsewhere. The enchantment is weak and can be broken with enough general 'do not want', but the locals consider it a fun and playful tradition, and partake joyously, often teasing and taunting pairs caught trying to free themselves without a smooch.

Several craftsmen in the shopping district, trying to garner interest for their wares, are running crafting lessons ranging from knitting to jewelry-making to calligraphy to basket-weaving. If it's crafty, someone's offering a lesson, and many are even seeking apprentices at this time of year. Or maybe you want to show off your own skills - space is offered for anyone who wants to run their own how-to workshop for others!

The city-wide feast also returns on the 23rd, and while food and drink are provided, after last year's successful potluck, they're encouraging everyone to bring a dish that represents them, their family, or their home to share with others. All in the spirit of being together!

All event prompts this month will be included in the log that will be posted on December 10th to allow for forward-dating as desired!

Appearance: boop, Momo is a respectably buff now-27 y/o who usually wears slightly loose/baggy clothes to disguise his build a bit, and also constantly wears red or pink nailpolish.
Brief: Momo is a veteran idol of the duo Re:vale, who are ridiculously successful and famous in their own world. While Momo's public face is very kind, sweet and helpful, and he's generally pretty much the same in private, his time in the entertainment industry fed a lot of his not so good personality traits. He often has possessive/controlling tendencies with the people he cares about, especially when he's worried about them, knows how to manipulate things into his favour, and can be a bit too willing to jump on board with eye-for-an-eye retaliation to things. If someone threatens his loved ones, he also tends to go kind of ferally violent, aaaaand he has self-esteem issues five miles deep.
Choice: Witch, mostly specialised in Illusion, Abjuration and a little bit of Evocation.
Event Plans: SO Momo will be doing the scavenger hunt, let me know if you'd like to group with him! He'll generally try to play fair but if any Wilders get too sabotage-happy then he'll sabotage them right back because fuck those guys. I'm also up for mistletoe shenanigans for Modranicht, with the caveat that Momo is probably going to kiss anywhere except the lips because he might die if Yuki accuses him of cheating in more than a joking manner.
General Plans: I'd like to do some quests this month as well - I've been looking at Snow Global, An Eggstra Bad Mistake, and Saving the Snowbirds mostly, so if you're interested in any of those lmk! A Friendly Competition - Got plans for her to go hang with Levi out in the woods. Like the old days, only without the man-eating naked people.
Modranicht - Mikasa is going to be going around to collecting supplies for the orphanage children(under new management), she's been working on making them blankets so might attempt to teach some knitting and sewing, and maybe she'll get taught crochet just to add that to her list of craft skills. I'm also up for a few awkward mistletoe moments with existing CR, though Mikasa might just be No or panic for it.

General Plans: I think it's mainly going to be chill backtag month but the quests I'm interested in are.
Under new management - Partway through last month Mikasa attempted a donation drive to get the orphans kitted up for winter. And will probably be found measuring and trying to wrangle them so she can take measurements, and maybe being dunked by snow.

Brief: Saori Nakagawa is a motherly figure who loves tea and mythology and folklore. One day, she was spirited away by a youkai with the intent to eat her soul as power-up. Even though her human life ended, she learned how to fight monsters like the one who killed her and also got married, had twins, and became one of two deities that make up the Shinto god Inari.
Choice: Chimera - Red Fox and Saltwater Crocodile
Event Plans: Saori is open for the scavenger hunt along with other challenges in cooking, tracking, and hunting. She will absolutely bring something for the city wide feast, but I haven't figured out what exactly. She can do a basic cooking skills workshop or maybe something a little more advanced if there's interest.
General Plans: Saori has the izakaya (Japanese style pub/eatery) Fushimi up and running. While she is currently has a Bond with Bishop, she may be considering getting more just for more balancing reasons but is hesitant about finding another one. Also she knows her way around a kitchen with both savory and sweet dishes so that maybe another incentive to Bond with her if having a capable fighter on your side isn't enough.

Event Plans:
• Vex will be forming a 3-man team with Percy and Lan Xichen for the Grand Scavenger Hunt. She's been itching for a chance to show off her ranger skills, and this is certainly as good a time as any! LXC also gets to deal with two awkward adults who haven't had time (or rather, avoided taking said time) to Talk yet, whoops!

• Vex will probably be a little melancholy over Modranicht, missing people back home (particularly her twin). Otherwise, she will help contribute coin to buying food or hunting skills to bring back meat for the potluck.

• Mistletoe? She's been a little (lot) less flirty lately --friends will have noticed-- so she won't be as willing to engage. Still, kiss on cheek or forehead will be offered if absolutely required to get out of the situation.

General Plans:
• I'm basically working all month, so I will be slower much like the end of November. (And FFXIV's patch next week will be a distraction too.) But I will try to be a bit more regular!

• Open to most things leading into the new year, I'm keeping options open due to the above circumstance, but both dragon form and half-elf Vex are both available for bouncing off ideas.

Event Plans: Given the theme of being amongst loved ones, Jasper is going to be watching peope socialise and be in a general state of I DON'T GET THIS??? He is generally removed from humanity and social interaction as a whole but is perfectly capable of interaction. Tl;dr The theme is an interesting contrast to his reserved character and I'm interested in throwing things out there. He is not ostentacious so might just criticise all the decorations being public or something. Jasper also has a massive complex for a man back home and that might make him blank out the mistletoe entirely, if anyone wants to poke at that.
General Plans: I am busy with World of Warcraft: Shadowlands for the month. I am also moving in the New Year and will be keeping a slow pace as there is much to do. I will generally try to fit in a couple of tags a day.

He's more emotionally savvy than you'd expect but has nonexistent self-worth and doesn't mind being used if he perceives it as being helpful in some way.

Event Plans: Scavenger hunting!! Styx has never done one and will be participating because he's pumped about it. I don't have any partners lined up so lmk if you'd like to drag a large idiot around the Wilde for a bit. Alternately - he gets it's a competition but doesn't really understand, so if you'd like to take advantage of that and solicit his help for your own team that's also an option.

I'm also openly thirsty and shameless so if you want to kiss Styx on any part of his body, let's do it. Mistletoe ahoy!!

If you're not looking for smooches pretty much everyone he's ever spoken to is getting a gift (nonnegotiable, sorry) and he'll also be stuffing his face at the citywide banquet like the glutton he is. Lots of options!

General Plans: I don't have much planned outside of events this month - he'll be doing both the Snowbird and Glamlog quests (he's going to be tasting colors now, oops) but otherwise I'm wide open. If your character is involved in the orphanage at all they'll have heard that he's trying to set up a little grab bag for the kiddos, if that's something they're might be interested in.

On the bond front he's got one right now and nothing lined up icly or oocly, so he's got space! He's also...somehow gotten a full time job as an exorcist. I don't know how this happened either.

Brief: Former magical boy with a recent tragic backstory. He has been Struggling in Aef thanks to the idea he's becoming something that's not him, although he's been helped a lot by everyone around him. He's determined to repay everyone's kindness, but for that he needs, like, resources, so he's trying to learn the ins and outs of the city and figure out what he can contribute. Generally polite if he can help it, at least until offended, but it's easy to get and stay on his good side.

Event Plans: I'm not opposed to someone meeting him under mistletoe, although it won't affect him (enchantment-nullifying fae powers!) he probably wouldn't duck away that hard unless they tried to go straight for the mouth or something... (though for certain characters maybe not then either, wink). He'll probably attend a workshop or two since he's already artistically inclined!
General Plans: You can see more general info about Ferran and what he's up to here, and I have a catch all log over here! The wildcard is the only fully-open prompt, but he's going to be doing some holiday shopping and studying/working with more illusions and enchantments. I'm keeping it light this month, but don't be shy if you want a thread!

Brief: She's still a hunter from a place where you kill werewolves, not marry them, but most people will find she's chilled out significantly in her... going on two years being here! She's one of the first characters that were in the game, and is still going strong. She can be cold and standoffish, especially to Monsters she doesn't know well, but she's sort of kind of getting better. She's less likely to immediately be as hostile as she was before, at least. She's still dangerous, though, and a great battle buddy and friend to have out in the Wildes. She teaches fencing to upper class ladies (and gives them gay awakenings), is frequently found participating in the most dangerous of quests, and recently has started distilling and brewing her own alcohol, with the intention of brewing some of the hallucinogenic roses from around Dorchacht into the recipe eventually.

Event Plans: Sign her up! I'll probably randomize her, if no one comes in in the next couple of days to offer a partnership for the scavenger hunt. Unsurprisingly, she's really great at combat, identifying animals and plants, and general survival skills in the Wilde - she does it a lot. Magic-wise, she specializes in enchantment and evocation, but she does dabble a bit more in alchemy now; anything else might need another kind of Witch. She's not great at fishing. She does not like fish.

As for Modranicht, she'll mostly be giving out presents to close CR, but I might have her make a post if anyone wants any of her extra gin to give as a gift.

I have her signed up for Snow Global and Save the Snowbirds. The first... if you want your character to stick their nose into why she has a castle in a snowglobe (it's to match the Astral Clocktower she got last year), and maybe segue that into talking about where she grew up, that'd be fine! Save the snowbirds is more likely to get some action going; she's down for slaying some infected foxes.

Bonds:

Maria still has Bond slots! She's more open to it now than she pretty much ever has been. It requires a bit of finesse, though. She's very unlikely to do it with a stranger, but if that's a direction anyone would like to take with her! She'll probably balance out with a 2 monster:1 witch ratio ideally, but anything is good for her. She just doesn't like the hallucinations mana buildup brings - it likes to aggravate her past traumas.

Housing:

There is, once again, room in the Haunted Mansion! Maria lives there with Kaede, and so a character that gets along with - or at least is quiet enough not to irritate (... they're both kind of prickly) both of them is ideal! Must love petalwolves, hyenas, horses, and lots, and lots of flowers. There's a huge garden on the premises that Maria very meticulously takes care of. Now including Lumenflowers, courtesy of the mirrors! In case glow-in-the-dark sunflowers were ever something someone wanted to see.

Brief: Ursula's been in the game awhile now and is pretty established as a respected astrologer AND educator, running a school for the refugee children AND helping out with education at Eren's orphanage. As busy as that might seem, she got a permanent injury awhile back that keeps her from being as active as she likes. She is bonded to Fang, Kaede, and Akko. While the four of them technically share an apartment, Kaede splits her time between there and her other abode. Fang and Kaede she's also romantically involved with (and Ozymandias too, because idk how this all happened), but she has a more mentor/student relationship with Akko, bordering on maternal. She adopted Monika as her daughter, legally, as well.
In summary, she's integrated into Aefenglom thoroughly, and is an excellent help for anyone needing magic advice or education, particularly when it comes to Divination, Abjuration and Evocation.

Event Plans: Honestly, I'll probably pass on the scavenger hunt. She has SO MUCH going on right now with Croix arriving that I'm probably gonna focus on interpersonal stories there. Expect Modranicht gifts if you have CR with her, though!

Brief: A slowly defrosting antisocial grump, Kaede has gotten...slightly, better at being a person than she was when she first arrived. She's formed, like, meaningful relationships with people and remembered what Feelings feel like (the ones that aren't hate or rage). She isn't sure what to do about them, that part is a work in progress. Unlearning years of being prickly and standoffish as a self defense mechanism is unsurprisingly difficult.

She's been in Aefenglom for over a year now, and has adjusted fairly well to Monster life. She's Bonded to Ursula Callistis/Chariot du Nord and splits her existence between her Bonded's apartment a definitely-not-haunted mansion she shares with Lady Maria, who she also frequently temp Bonds with for Business Purposes.

Bonus: The mansion grounds have talking hyenas on it, for any nighttime visitors. They're great big cowards about people when Kaede's not around, though, so mostly they stick to making a racket of creepy noises.

Event Plans: I don't have any major plans yet; Snow Global seems cute, though Kaede has some Incredibly Mixed Feelings about certain things from home. Ask her why she's looking sadly at a house in a snowglobe, it might be a way to deepen CR.

General Plans: This month Kaede will also be clumsily fishing for deets as to what Modranicht gifts to get some of her CR, since she's started to care about a bunch of people and doesn't know when that happened.

There's still plenty of room in the mansion she spends half her time living at; it's down to Maria and Kaede, plus the petalwolves and sand hyenas and now a nonzero number of horses. It's also got a lovely garden. Potential roommates need to pass muster with both of them, which may or may not be easy depending on how comfortable they are with solidly dark grey moral compasses.

It's kind of lonely in the house, though. And Kaede's realizing that, actually, she liked seeing familiar faces in it, and she feels guilty about leaving Maria alone half of the time.

Event Plans: aerith is going to be participating in the scavenger hunt with her friend tifa, but given that they're both incredibly new to aefenglom, they're bound to run into some trouble. still, she would of course be trying to help anyone out despite it being something of a competition, so having her cross paths with anyone in their hunt for something would be great! she hasn't been here for very long so her magic is basically limited to a very dinky healing & barrier spell, but she'll make up for what she's lacking with enthusiasm. i'm also happy to have her end up under the enchanted mistletoe, even with just friends for cheek kisses, or other kisses! she'll also probably be interested in taking some weaving classes to try to make baskets for some of her friends to eventually fill with flowers...hopefully.
General Plans: i've got her signed up for under new management & out of the city quests for december, so anyone wanting to do a thread regarding either is welcome! other than that she'll just be focusing on magic study, as well as trying to make her little cottage more of a home. i'm a bit slammed during december so i don't want to take on too much, but having her around in a few threads and things would be lovely!

I was planning on having Steak begin to deal with the effects of magic build up, because he is not bothering to practice it, but I am thinking that with the end of the year going on and things being quiet that I might drag it out a little more this month and have the worst effects hit him in the new year. So he'll be getting one more month's relief.

He's still just kind of nice and really wanting to think the best of everyone (because the alternative is a reflection on how much terrible shit everyone he loves has done and had happen to them), so there's lingering intentional ignorance and stubborn positivity there, but don't we all have a stubborn idiot streak? He's becoming a Monster defender too. Someone tell him how he can be a better monster friend!!

scavenger hunt - Xichen will be participating alongside Vex and Percy, so I'm all for people running into him or possibly group shenanigans if anyone wants a team up or rivalry thing? Or idiot trade, because look there might be doubles. That's totally how this works. Maybe they can get chased by wildlife and trapped in a cave or something.

Modranicht - Mistletoe stuff would be cute. I'm down for moving some CR toward this if people are interested! Either nice OR dumb is fine by me and probably without strings, since he's still working out his current relationship knot. It's a kind of confusing knot. But innocent kisses or more are both on the table if you want to plot a thing! I'm fine with lasting consequences, jealousy, etc.

General Plans: He's going to make a sword fly. So this obviously means test flights and horrible crashes and idiocy because I can't not. I also need opportunities for him to flirt, be encouraged to do stupid things, and to learn new skills. Let him be the gay idiot prince he was meant to be. Or silly moral debates work too. Come to me. Let's start a book club.

Brief: She was sold to Yoshiwara- a red light district- as a child in order to become a courtesan. She rebelled against this and started training in the ninja arts with a master who would later turn out to be a complete psychopath trying to mold her in his image and turn her into this deadly emotionless fighting machine. Long story short, she gets out of that and slowly starts to become a warmer, slightly more open person with the help of *~*new friends*~* - of course. She leads an all-female paramilitary group called the Hyakka, which keeps the women of Yoshiwara safe from crime, harassment etc - basically most of the women in the group are people she's saved in some form or another. Presents as very serious and stoic but has a warm, squishy, awkward tsundere center.

Event Plans: Work is gonna be kicking my butt in the run up to Christmas but I'm definitely up for any of the lighter Christmas-y options - especially horrendously awkward mistletoe kissing.
General Plans: At the moment she's unbonded and stubbornly avoiding even thinking about it too much - however, she also really does not want to hurt anyone by losing control and won't forgive herself if that happens so slowly relenting and considering her options is definitely on the cards. I'd also like her to get some kind of job where she's helping people because that's her thing, while pretending to be totally aloof of course.

Will die for that friend, and it isn't a stretch to say that he has devoted himself completely to him. Now he is a dragon separated from the only thing that really matters to him, and his transformation has made certain details of his troubled childhood rise to the surface of his appearance. Soren is too busy, tired, and otherwise out-of-commission to play with the Scavenger Hunt, even if he wanted to to begin with. See General Plans as to why. Otherwise, I do plan on having him available for Modranicht stuff. WHAT IF THEY KISSED... UNDER THE MISTLETOE... 👁👄👁

General Plans:
Due to a draconic skirmish last event with one Eren Jaeger that led to a few blocks of structural damage in the city, he will have all of his powers and abilities taken away for the whole month, as per the Coven. Part of his punishment is community service in the form of helping to rebuild the parts of the residential district that got scrapped and leveled... but with Soren's newfound monster strength sapped of him, he will revert back to his old lack of strength and may, at times, need help with heavy lifting. If you are interested in this, I may also like to play around with the locals loudly dispensing their harmless disapproval of him (and monsters/dragons in general) so if you like playing with these atmospheric low-key anti-monster sentiments, please hit me up!

He will also be kind of a miserable shut-in otherwise. It's cold, he doesn't like being outside, he feels vulnerable... etc.. But there will be excuses to send him out of his home every now and then. He's going to have a hard time coming to his regular job at Inkchanted, but he can also be caught there.
