December Mirrorbound Council Post

Welcome to the Mirrorbound Council discussion post for the month of December! This is the space to discuss IC concerns from your characters that can be brought to Parliament by members of the Mirrorbound Council. Here are some quick facts!

• Membership in the Mirrorbound Council is open, so if your character is the type to get involved, you're more than welcome to sign up here.
• More information on the Council's history, current members, and motions can be found here.
• Each motion must be cosigned by 3 Council members.
• Each council member can only cosign 1 motion per month.
• As a result, there may be months where not all motions can be raised. In that case, motions will be brought to Parliament in the order of greatest IC support to least IC support.
• To suggest an IC motion, please post to the most appropriate heading below. Make sure to list the name of the character who would suggest it so they get credit!
• To support an IC motion, comment to the motion with either "+1" or some other indication of your character's support. There's no limit on how many motions each character can support, so be sure to check the whole post!
• All characters can suggest and support motions ICly — not just Council members! Consider this post an OOC representation of an open-forum style discussion open to all Mirrorbound. The goal is to get as many people involved as possible, both ICly and OOCly, so don't hesitate to chime in!
• The deadline to submit motions is December 15th. After submissions close, Council members will attach their names to motions and submit them to the mod team by December 25th.
• All OOC ideas and suggestions are welcome as well, so please hit us up!

OCTOBER

Initially brought up in August, Ozymandias began speculating that making changes to the Residential District may be a good place to improve living conditions within the city by addressing the overcrowding issue due to Parliament's previous hesitation to help the Outer City. (More information on that can be found here!) This has since spawned two discussions:

For the Residential District plan with Ozymandias and Edelgard, please see the update in November for more updated information.

For the Outer City, there was a large discussion about the limitations and barriers to effectively addressing the needs of that part of the population. Some of this was purely ooc and player obtained information, but some of the discussion is a bit handwavey communication between characters. Those involved so far (in addition to the a-Pharaoh-mentioned character at the top of this) were Jin Guangyao, Leslie, Near, and Heralia. It is a lot to summarize briefly, so it is encouraged to read the thread for more details, but to provide the broad strokes: some ideas were generated about potential quests to improve relations between the Mirrorbound and the Outer City; there was a brief discussion about how to continue making in-roads with Parliament for both the Outer City and Residential District, including some less than savory ways (i.e. stabbing with plausible deniability) involved; it was confirmed that Parliament functions primarily on nepotism; and there were some ideas kicked around about how to actually provide more protection to the Outer City. Although only brought up briefly before most were distracted by talking about what to do for the Outer City, Jin Guangyao did bring up the idea of developing more improved relations with the Underground, primarily through the Monster Mirrorbound. Top-comment here is what is most relevant.

NOVEMBER

As reported last month, the motion brought forward about educating orphans passed! (And by a pretty great margin. Good work, team!) Based upon the responses I received, I would gauge that the Mirrorbound were fairly successful in securing the necessary funding last month. Thereby allowing the orphanage to begin the process of making the necessary purchases, hiring, and changes to the building's structure to get to work on the school. Any further questions about this would probably be best directed to either Eren or Ursula on an IC level (and their players on an OOC level!). For now, this motion would appear resolved.

Regarding the Residential District, Edelgard seems to be of a similar mind of how to go about addressing the overcrowding issue by building up instead of out. More information available here. Since then, Ozymandias and Edelgard discussed the motion further and have discussed the challenges of assisting those displaced during the construction. The possibility of those temporarily displaced being temporarily housed in the farmlands with a Mirrorbound patrol for protection seemed the most beneficial way to address this. This appears to be relatively ready to propose as a motion, although it is notable that with Edelgard's departure from the game, there is definitely room for additional support!

DECEMBER

You might be saying to yourself, hold on a minute. It is December right now! (You'd be correct.) How can you have anything on here? (A fair question.) I wanted to take a moment to solicit feedback about these monthly posts! They have been running for a while, and participation has definitely been great! But I wanted to check-in and make sure they were still functional for folks. All feedback from everyone (both people with characters in the Council and outside of it) are welcome to give their two cents!

Leslie would be glad to help with the residential district construction (and getting shown on how to be a supervisor of construction by Ozy), both because it’s a way to actually make progress on a problem she banged her head against for a while and because taking up a cause that Edelgard was discussing might help Leslie to process the grief over her not being here anymore.

(She will probably stop short of actually joining the council/supporting motions — her somewhat rigid moral compass and childish appearance make politics something she’d have to struggle with — but hey, maybe it’d be something to explore and use for CR opportunities. I’ll have to think on that.)

Although not a big thing, I'm still up especially for IC chitchatting about/visiting the Underground -- keeping things light in December, but I've got an open log up now with at least one starter for Underground things, and if anyone is interested in a more PR-related one I'd be happy to start that too.

Guangyao is definitely a bit put-off at the polling from last month sugesting that most Mirrorbound are just gonna fuck off back home once/if that's ever an option, making the idea of convincing the locals that they're actually invested in helping a liiiiittle bit harder.

I'm trying to make sure I'm navigating the residential district construction talks accurately, since it looks like there is a ton of brainstorming here. Crystal and I talked about this, but I will make a small OOC note here that Gilgamesh fobbed off some of the orphanage duties to Saber and Bishop, though the latter was via one of the quests to that effect. I know this is more or less concluded ICly, but if anyone is still interested in doing something with the orphanage, those two characters were ICly inducted in orphanage duties. Otherwise, Gil is also done with that ICly.

I would be REALLY interested in getting more PR stuff going for the Underground City and was in fact hoping for more quests related to that, so I just want to OOCly note that here.
