”DARKNESS AND FROST: OOC PLOTTING POST
As described on the quest board, the woods around the Wildes have been recently haunted by a terrifying presence. Creatures never seen before around here, creatures incredibly volatile and hostile, have been spotted. While they are aggressive towards anyone who approaches them they will be far more aggressive and stalkery towards the Mirrorbounds , as their grudge carried them far…
TL;dr A half year ago Iskandar and Cu fought a bunch of them around Dorchacht, saved several Wilders and helped them retreat, leaving few of the creatures wounded, angry and very, very thirsty for revenge. Several Mirrorbounds had come into contact with them in Dorchacht on the Ieuril, and some of them definitely caused these beasts to hold a grudge. The creatures target people who had recent contact with the Mirrorbounds, maybe were healed by them or own items (or tattoos) crafted or enchanted by them. Even if it was a grudge towards few named individuals that led them here, they now hate all of the Mirrorbounds equally. And are attracted to places where they have been active recently.
Now they stalk the woods around Aefenglom, attack the Wilders and as of end of the month are coming as close as to terrorize and wound few people living in the slums. They are getting bolder, and the danger isn’t just a far one.
So what exactly a Nuckelavee is…?
Nuckelavee is terrifying. Nuff said.
What almost everyone can describe is its shriek that can make even most hardened Wilders tremble in fear. Not many have seen the creature itself up close, but the whispers of its appearance have spread like wildfire - it resembles a horse, they say, its skin gone and body raw. It has only one eye that burns like fire in the darkness. Sometimes the horse has a rider, or rather a likeness of one growing out of its flesh. His long hands can reach the ground and grab its victim with terrifying strength. It’s only weakness is the inability to cross the running water.
Summing all the known facts: it’s hungry for human flesh, angry, and vicious. It can’t cross the fresh running water. The only way to kill it is by beheading either the horse or the rider. One of them is plenty dangerous, and it is unknown just how many of them are out there in the woods.
They were native to Dorchacht Wildes, but now they’re here to terrorize Aefenglom area as well.
Who you gonna call? Mirrorbounds!
As the connection between the creature’s appearance and the Mirrorbounds is uncovered there will be a call to arms regarding organized action, to take care of this threat. Since Mirrorbounds seem to be already involved, and might act as a good bait to lure the creatures into one place…. yeah, you can imagine who are they going to ask for help. All of you dear Aefenglomites from Another Worlds. (And there will be a network post about it soon.)
So what can my character do to help?
The plan is to deal with the creatures once and for all, and the battlefield chosen is Northern Outpost. Witches and Monsters that can help fortify the area, set up traps or alerts, supply points, escort Wilders looking for alchemical ingredients: really, go wild (and definitely tell us about it). Anything that can give the hunters an advantage is welcome. The preparations are going to last for around four days and all Mirrorbounds are required to return to Aefenglom for the night. At least until the night of the hunt starts.
On the night of the hunt as many fighters, as many healers, everyone willing to join in the fray, are requested to show up. For the Nuckelavee are the most active at night, and that is when the final trap is meant to spring.
Just dress up warmly, it seems the blizzard is imminent. The weather in the Wildes continues being in stark opposition to the one in the city. The strategic advance created earlier might make or break this fight… Stay safe.
However, the Northern Outpost isn’t the only location requiring help. As the creatures have been spotted outside Aefenglom walls, people in the Slums could use help. Setting up wards, a wall maybe? Offering support and protection, seeing to the rumors of lost children (maybe they’re just hiding somewhere, maybe not). Arguing with a local raging madman that their sudden appearance is actually not a divine punishment for accepting the foreign devils aka the Mirrorbounds into the city.
To summarize, Northern Outpost and especially on the night of the hunt is the high-risk part of the quest, Slums around Aefenglom are the safer place to cover for. Safer doesn’t mean entirely safe, though.
But wait, there is more— there is always science
During the preparations someone whispers, someone wonders. These creatures sensed magic of people they hate so passionately that they found them on the other side of the continent. They crossed the land, through darkest Wildes and yet they appear entirely uninfected. No reports or sightings tell about them being affected by Cwyld. How could that be…?
Is wiping all of them truly a smart move? Maybe something could be learned from, well, a live specimen. They’re tough to kill and probably even tougher to keep in captivity, but what could it do to further the knowledge of the Cwyld? Or is the danger too high?
Here is your chance to cast your votes Mirrorbounds and decide the course of action. Please refer to this comment, to cast IC votes of your characters. The YES and NO should go into the subject header. Reasoning why your character chooses the option they do is welcome, players are obviously free to discuss the decisions between themselves.
Important if your character is voting for the capture, while it’s not strictly required, it’s highly encouraged to present a suggestion/plan how would such a task be approached, or how the creature is to be held afterward. For the attempt to work at least one plan of action should be presented (and the YES option to win the vote).
Please note that this is not a Coven sanctioned operation. Should a Nuckelavee capture attempt happen, the research team will consist of Mirrorbounds and Wilders.
The voting closes on 20th 23:59 EST
Now onto the Plotting!
That’s right, it’s another tracker type of thing/slash plotting post. Obviously the plotting does not have a closing date, however, if you want your character plan affect the final log (for example, building a moat around the slums), it has to be posted here before 20th August 24:00 EST. The log is scheduled to go on the 21st of August and will ICly cover four-five following days.
Player Name:
Character Name:
Location: Is your character going to help within the Slums? Northern Outpost? Are they staying for the Night of the Hunt?
Role/Plans: Tell us what your character is good at? What is their idea on how to handle the situation? Are they going to create wards? Dig a moat around the area? Offer emotional support or healing? Or take the fight back to the creatures.
Here's the form for convience
For any questions and/or feedback, you might have, please direct them here. Big thanks to Ran for massive work and contribution into the event post, to mchan for contribution in the OOC write-up, and blessed be Lena for the editor's help on the event post and for making the network post.

VOTE - should a capture of Nuckelavee be attempted?
YES
Yes
won't be there because she'll be injured, but she's curious anyway.
YES
For the actual capture and containment part, Waver will suggest an enclosure surrounded by running water, ideally powered by spellwork that would allow for the water to be present in an actual cage-like structure rather than only on the ground, just in case. Something like a waterfall on all sides? It has to be running water, so maybe enchanted walls with water coursing inside them, either as a separate moving layer on the inside or outside of the enclosure, or two sets of walls with a layer of water that can move between them. For this, they'd need people to engineer and help build a complicated enclosure and Witches to enchant it and make sure the spellwork is refreshed when needed.
Somewhere out in a cleared part of the Wild near the outpost or the city would be best so researchers can go out and observe it without endangering people who aren't specifically there for that reason (he'd definitely be against trying to bring it into the city proper).

As for catching it, finding bait will be no problem. The real trick will be containing it. A trap of some sort? An enchanted net? Perhaps herding it into a contained space? All of the above at once?
what is overkill?(no subject)

Role/Plans: Chances are that Leslie will not be a part of the hunting crew, or at least that some will hope she is not, but protecting the slums with wards/a wall? She’s all about that. She’s been researching wards for quite a while, even if mostly focused on anti-Cwyld ones, and she’d be thrilled to help with that.
But I also want to volunteer for if anyone wants to play out a heroic rescue of someone other than an NPC. Leslie isn’t exactly helpless, as she’s ridiculously brave, has studied Abjuration-based protection magic, and has been taught about self-defence by a couple of very good teachers, but this is perhaps above her pay grade. She has no real combat experience, started the year out very weak and fragile, and is only 12-13 years old (in a non-action series). If no one wants to play hero, she’ll get to remain out of trouble, because I want her to stay safe (and for various people who like her to not have heart attacks), but I also recognize that “people who would need rescuing” are low on the ground in this gang of heroes.

Role/Plans: Maria's idea is to just start killing them until they decide this isn't worth it anymore and go away. Or until they're all dead. She's committed genocide once, she doesn't find these things sapient enough to feel bad about doing it again. That said, I think one of them is going to trample her garden at the Northern Outpost, which is going to be enough to make her enrage and go after it, which is going to lead her into biting off way more than she can chew, and ending up dragging what's left of her sorry corpse back to the Northern Outpost to be taken back to the hospital in Aefenglom.
I'll probably have three phases:
Fighting the monsters - where anyone can come join Maria. She's going to bloody her blades pretty nicely and take down as many as possible. Even if screaming horse-monsters are just going to be triggering some of her problems with her hallucinations due to magical build-up. Thanks, Ludwig.
Getting separated - she's going to go off on her own, at some point, and then come back leaving a bloody streak through the snow. Someone is welcome to find her badly injured and help her back to the outpost, but by the nature of this, obviously, it's probably not going to be as many people - maybe one or two?
At the hospital - Aftermath. She won't be there for the capture of any nuckelavees, if you all go that route, but she will be in the hospital recovering, likely from the end of the event through to the beginning of next month.
So yeah, come fight with and/or rescue one of the most dangerous people in Aefenglom!

Character Name: Cú Chulainn (Caster)
Location: Northern Outpost / The night of the battle
Role/Plans: Caster is going to stick to the Northern Outpost, fortifying the location, stocking the alchemical ingredients and making... some useful things. If you got an empty bottle, don't throw it away, with few, easily obtainable things it can be made into an explosive or a flashbang.
He could provide runes or painted spell enchantments directly on skin, but given how that would also paint a target on the recipient, he miiiight ask that you prove yourself in a fight first if you want that.
There are also a few tips and tricks he could share when fighting against the creatures since he got EXPERIENCE. Or act as a morale supporter for those who need encouragement.
His magic specialization lies in Enchantment and Evocation followed closely by Alchemy. He's been also dipping toes into Abjuration and Transmutation in the last half year, and will assist with the necessary spellwork where he can.
But he is here mostly for the big epic fight v_v he's a fightnerd

Character Name: Waver Velvet
Location: Slums
Role/Plans: Waver will be helping fortify the outskirts of the city in whatever way he can, probably by warning the people and pitching in to help the villagers set up guards and running water where possible. He's not a healer, but he's good at alchemy and will have some healing and pain relief potions on hand, or could help in making them.
He'll also be very interested in capturing and researching one of the Nuckelavee. Though he's unlikely to be doing the actual capturing, he can help plan out containment. I'm thinking I might do a (network?) post to recruit people to help engineer and fortify/enchant an enclosure for it. Would anyone be interested in something like that?
no subject
And I think the network post is absolutely a great idea! Since I was thinking of making a network post about the whole Wilders Call For Aid deal, maybe we could join forces for one joint post??? I could provide Caster doing the initial exposition, and then Waver taking the lead with the recruitment for the containment engineering plan. Just a random thought

Character Name: Saber
Location: Slums
Role/Plans: Saber will be helping to defend the outskirts of the city and the people there; she sees her role more as a protector than a hunter. While she would like to be in the thick of things, her heart tells her to stay and protect people.
So she'll be using her sword and monstrous abilities to do what she can to fend off anything that comes their way and to try and rally the slumspeople and keep their spirits up.
She thinks they ought to kill the thing and be done with it, if only because it's simply so dangerous!

(she's also team "kill it" lol, but she won't really be at the front lines so whatever happens!)

Character Name: Momo
Location: Northern Outpost/might help out around the slums a bit in the lead-up but he'll be at the Outpost for hunt night
Role/Plans: Considering the nature of Momo's magic focus, he's going to be primarily acting in defense (with barriers) and also healing if anyone gets nasty but healable injuries. However, he does have his trusty burny hunting knife and started dipping into elemental magic a bit last month, so he will be doing a bit of offense and can probably also help freeze feet so people with bigger weapons can get hits in more easily.
I'm also thinking that considering how long he's been learning barrier magic, this might be a fun opportunity to press him into some, uh. Creative use of barriers. For offensive purposes, since besides Shades he usually ends up fighting stuff he doesn't want to actually kill, so this would be a nice chance to have some "hey what if I tried to make a shield bubble inside something and then expand it"/alternative uses of magically thin barrier edges-esque experimentation. He's kind of Done with the nuckelavee by this point (since he has an enchanted tattoo and has thus been a target the whole month) and knows how hideously dangerous they're going to be if not put down, so in typical fashion when things start endangering people he likes he's going to conveniently misplace any reservations he has about violence and come out the other end somewhere in merciless territory.

Character Name: Yona
Location: Northern Outpost/Battle night
Role/Plans: So as Yona is now Bonded to one of the main targets for these guys, she's probably going to be drawn right into the middle of things, regardless of whether she wants to be or not. Thinking that her presence away from the city might be best because of those connections, she'll be out at the Outpost helping however she can. This will probably be in fortifying where she can, helping patrol from a range (she's a great shot with a bow) and helping with the injured.
She only knows a few simple healing spells so far (picked up from her time in the Underground helping with the Red Death) but she's pretty good at general first aid and field dressing, so she'd leave the big stuff to people who know what they're doing and tend to the simple things so they can conserve their magic and energy.
She will likely be joining on the night of the hunt, unless her Bonded think of a really convincing way to keep her out of it >.> she's not one to stand by when there's work to be done and people to protect.
I will probably not be giving her a top-level for this since she already had one this month, but she is available for tagging out and arranging plans with, so please feel free to hit me up if you would like Yona for a thing! You can poke me here or over at

Maybe they could do some epic Witches' Fightin' together with combo spells and what not
Or one gets hurt the other protects
Also to consider: Northern Post, leyline, they're both Witches and there's a lot magic going on

Character Name: Hector
Location: Northern Outpost
Role/Plans: Hector's not entirely convinced the Nuckelavee are beyond reasoning with (he's from a world where he created creatures like them, and he considers them Misunderstood). So he's going to help do research and fortifying during the days leading up to the hunt, but he'll probably go off on his own on the night before the hunt and trying to make contact with it.
This is a terrible idea and will likely end in severe injury or death :) If anyone wants to find him and try to stop him, feel free!

Character Name: Jiang Cheng
Location: Northern Outpost
Role/Plans: He would be a fighter during the night of the hunt. He is a trained swordsman and archer, even though he would likely need to borrow a bow and arrow if he decided to go that route since he doesn't a set of his own. He does have his own sword though. He is used to war and fighting and weird zombie-like creatures.
Chances are he will go and push himself too hard and end up in the hospital for a bit once it is all said and done.

Character Name: Riku
Location: The Northern Outpost/Night of the Battle
Role/Plans: Riku is a Witch and a capable fighter so he can help with wards, setting traps, or even building protective structures. He's skilled in Abjuration and Evocation class spells, particularly elemental type offensive magic and barriers. He has some practice in healing magic as well, so he can provide healing for minor wounds and injuries. He also wields his Keyblade alongside his magic, which he's used magic to sharpen the blade of so that it cuts.
He'll be joining in on the night of battle, liking jumping into the forefront of things, as he tends to prefer to be on the offensive rather then the defensive. He will be interested in trying to capture and contain one of the Nucklelavee for study and is available for any team-ups of that nature. Or just team-ups in general.

Character Name: Merrin
Location: The Slums
Role/Plans: Knowing she is not much of a hero, and her ability to use this world's magic is still limited, Merrin will be staying behind to tend to locals and keep the slums safe. She'll especially want to look out for any children, who to her are the innocent ones most in need of protection. Casting wards and trying to corral the more aggressive sort of people will be her focus as well.

Character Name: Soundwave
Location: Nothern Outpost/The Slums
Role/Plans: Soundwave will be sticking to fortifying the outskirts of the city and help with protecting. While he could get into the thick of things, he's more fitting in the defensive role than offensive, he can provide barrier and healing for anyone in need.
Soundwave will be for capturing one of the Nuckelavee, cuz once you go face apparently you have an appreciation for all life- i'm not kidding. Real answer: he'd think it's worth a try to reason with one, and learn what they can about the creature's origin and how it avoids infection. That, and he doesn't advocate just kill the problem anymore.

Character Name: Saori Nakagawa
Location: The Northern Outposts
Role/Plans: She'll be out and about, trying to make sure no one is lost or does something incredibly stupid like going after the Nuckelavee by themselves. She's got a sword, fists, and her monster abilities to back her up. Depending how she'll be afterwards, she may help on the night of the hunt or needs to be dragged back for some healing.

Character Name: Iskandar
Location: Northern Outpost / The night of the battle / The Slums
Role/Plans:
Iskandar would be on the Northern Outpost as much as he can helping fortify the place, setting magical and physical barriers, discussing strategies of defence, strong and weak points of the location. He will there for the night of the battle because this is personal now. Also because the fight would be epic no way he could possibly miss that.
In the preparation phase, He will STILL try to keep a strong presence in the Slums (for a lot of complicated reasons). There are people there he has helped in the past and he still feels responsible for them. Especially, now that the danger comes from their connection to him.
His magic specialization is Abjuration with main focus on Barriers and Healing. With some basics in Evocation. Lately, he's been dabbling in Enchantment mainly due to his involvement in Inkchanted. But he is a warrior first, he feels better in physical combat than magic.

Character Name: eren jaeger
Location: slums
Role/Plans: i’m interested in tagging out and doing closed/personalized top levels for people who want to plot something! eren won’t be going too far out into the wilde both because the winter hurts a dragon like he and the slums is what could need the most protecting! i‘d love fight threads, tag teams, protection from eren or from you character! eren himself will be nearly reaching his full dragon size that comes complete with fire breathing— no complaints if fighters want to ride him! also note that he will probably eat these things............... so gl taking one alive in his hands 🙃
he’s had run ins and fights with horsedemons when they appeared way back in dorchacht, so if anyone wants a reason for their character to be attacked and you have cr or have had contact with eren, feel free to use that!

Character Name: nami
Location: slums
Role/Plans: look she's definitely not what you'd call a frontline fighter, but if the slums have rumors of missing children then... that would alarm her enough to at least look into that and try to help if she can. she's a witch but she doesn't know much magic yet, but would try to do what little she can.
so if anyone wants to team up for children-finding or potentially protecting people, or wants to help her out when it comes to fights because she will absolutely run from anything and everything, i'm game!
also post-event for those who she knows that go out to the northern outpost, she's here for yelling at them because that's how she expresses worried affection, apparently.
