CR & PLOTTING: JULY
- • As a quick note! Character tags will be added to the comms after we update the Taken list.
• The app round has brought a backlog in work, but we'll be clearing it out and updating pages as quickly as we can; then things should resume more smoothly. Please don't mind the dust in the meantime.
• We've extended the deadline on the OOC Activity Tracker to the 12th, so if your character has done anything significant down below or in Aefenglom, please let us know there!
• EDIT: Forgot to let you know that we've updated the Bestiary with some small ease-of-play tweaks and additions from the FAQ! If you would like to swap over the animal your Monster is based on (ie. rabbit Puca to hamster Puca), you may start transitioning their changes whenever you'd like. If your Monster type received an addition, you can incorporate it if and when it suits you! Adding specific FAQ questions in an index on each page is on the to-do list as well.
At the very beginning of Juril, new Mirrorbound came through the Looking-Glass House in record numbers, setting the city into a flurry of activity to see them settled, similar to Maiuril, except this time, they are expected to remain, properly bound. The arrival of the foreign Cirque Mystique complicated matters further, a spell they use to awe the audience at the end of a show reacting to the lunar eclipse and sowing chaotic revelry in the streets. With the Cirque gone, and Mirrorbound hopefully settling into their new lives in Aefenglom, the world keeps turning...
Awakening (6th)
A group of determined explorers have spent months now on a quest to clear the Cwyld from a particular tree out in the Wilde in the hopes of freeing an ancient guardian. They have faced all manner of dangerous Cwyldtid and risked infection themselves in their quest, working tirelessly and selflessly since March. This exhaustive effort finally bears fruit as Créia, dragon of the Wilde, awakens... and wishes to speak to the Mirrorbound.
This will be an NPC post regarding the return of the Guardian of the Wilde, brought about by a significant effort from Owlie, who has run the Dragon's Tree quest month to month, and all the characters who participated in it!
The Red Menace, and Hot & Cold (18th on)
Deep Underground, the people of the Matriarch's city are beginning to go about their lives again, though the Mirrorbound never quite lose novelty for them. With the news more widespread, they have more questions for their visitors, starting to accept that perhaps there is life up there. Unfortunately, distraction strikes. While some Mirrorbound have already noticed the encroaching red algae trying to grow its way up onto the protective moss that surrounds the city, it becomes apparent very quickly that more research is needed: it's growing thicker now, spreading spores that cloud the air and choke the lungs, and it is eating holes into the protective moss. This invader is quickly becoming a health hazard in more ways than one, and the Matriarch is beside herself. With the protective moss failing, allowing in small infected creatures from the tunnels to spread the Cwyld, the city could fall much sooner than anticipated if something isn't done.
Meanwhile, the Northern Outpost, in the middle of Winter out in the Wilde and far from the threads of magic that maintain the opposing season around Aefenglom, storms threaten to bury the few buildings and the entrance to the Underground in feet of ice and snow. The Wilders are at a loss; the weather has never been this bad, as far as they know, even this far out. Investigation will reveal the culprit to be semi-intangible snow elementals, riled up by a procession of summer pixies sweeping across the land toward Aefenglom. While the pixies move on quickly, the snow elementals remain angry at the intrusion: they will need to be appeased, fought off, or a more creative solution must be reached, lest they bury the Outpost until spring.
In Aefenglom, the summer pixies reach the city shortly after leaving the Wilde, bringing a heatwave that dries up the remaining humidity overnight. Tiny and glowing white, these little Fae-adjacent beings riding sparking fire-scarabs have only mischief in mind. In the dry conditions, house fires pop up all over the city, and those growing gardens will find that many plants simply cannot handle the heat. The sun remains high and hot in the sky for much longer, shortening the nights to the detriment of all nocturnal Monsters. The River Temese recedes as the water starts to evaporate, leaving it murky, encouraging the overgrowth of regular algae. Needless to say, the heat is A Problem for the people of Aefenglom. Like the ice pixies in December, these summer pixies will need to be dealt with - whether it's by appeasing them until they leave or fighting them off, the Coven is past caring, as long as they get gone.
All effects on the weather, both in Aefenglom and in the Wilde, will dissipate after the event's IC end date as the pixies and snow elementals are dealt with. The red algae, if not solved, will remain a problem Underground for the near future.
