CR & PLOTTING: JUNE

It's been pretty crazy, huh. We hope you're enjoying Aefenglom so far and that you're ready to start really cracking into the game - because this month's event is a little less lowkey than last month. Speaking of last month, here's a quick reminder for current players, and a small summary for those just joining us:

New arrivals came from the mirrors of the Looking-Glass House; the head of the Coven, Miss Nerissa Bell, and her Bonded and the Coven's ambassador to Parliament, Mhairi Ainsley, met with them and answered what they could. Afterwards, all those who had come through the mirrors were allowed to stay with the Coven while Nessie and Mhairi set out to find a more permanent living space for everyone. A deal was struck with Parliament, and after much cleaning up, evacuating, and subduing tempers, the new arrivals were moved to the Haven - though they were, of course, given the option of staying elsewhere should they have the funds and means to do so. They also opened up a line of communication, free for anyone to use. While some characters began to investigate their new surroundings, over all, the month wound down without much more fanfare as everyone began to settle in, and as the Coven wondered if yet another batch of world travelers would show up...

And so they did, just a few days ago, though Nessie - having suspected this might occur - was ready to receive them. Once more, her and Mhairi answered questions, and those newly arrived were offered the opportunity to be tested for magic potential. Classes began for those who were Witch and those who were Monster, though both were open to anyone - new or old - to attend, and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.

Now, with that out of the way, let's get into the rest of the month.

EVENT PART ONE: THE FULL MOON AND LITHA

As some of you might have noticed, our first event log lands officially on June 17th - the same day as the full moon. It isn't going to be the majority of the log though; it was more or less chosen for timing reasons, but that doesn't mean it doesn't mean anything. Starting on the 17th, the skies that have slowly grown more pink over the course of the month will grow an even deeper red, causing even more of a fuss in the city - particularly the Harbor District, where people are hard at work making sure to be ready to start their new voyages. Still, this uneasy unrest won't disrupt the festivities, though there are murmurings that this never happened before new people started showing up out of nowhere...

For Litha itself, the festival itself is a three day affair starting on the summer solstice on June 21st at dusk, and lasting until the dusk of June 23rd. It celebrates bonds and relationships of the closer kind, with brothels opening their doors for free to those who want or need a little company. Drinks spiced with love and lovemaking potions are passed around with a wink and a smile, helping along intimacy and relationship building... though it's just as easy to find people selling drinks that don't have anything added to them.

In addition to that, Litha has a number of interesting traditions anyone can take part in - from making flower crowns for that special someone, to traveling through garden hedge mazes with a partner selected for you at random, not unlike a blind date. There are a few rumors about the festival as well, such as surefire ways to find your future spouse by looking into a well at night, and that by collecting the flowers handed off by the seven biggest flowershops in Aefenglom and placing them beneath your pillow before you sleep, you'll dream of future partners... though Rose Bush, a smaller up-and-coming shop, seems to be keen on making its name known one way or another. Mind your fingers! Finally, ships from the harbor are in constant motion, each voyage out signaled by cheers, fireworks, and an amount of enthusiasm so great it's obvious that it's more of a force of will than it is genuine - why not go see one off?

The festivities over all have a restless air about them though, like everyone is waiting for something to happen - and they wouldn't exactly be wrong.

EVENT PART TWO: AN UNEXPECTED HAPPENING

At the peak of Litha on June 22nd, the dawn breaks into deeper red. Even as the day moves on, the reddishness doesn't quite fade, turning blue and grey skies to something a touch more violet and pale pink instead - and finally, at sunset, the sky looks as if it has a deep gash within it, the color so deep it feels as if the sky itself is bleeding. Sleep isn't easy to come by, though as the clock strikes three in the morning, all still awake suddenly drop into a deep slumber.

It might feel familiar to those who've come through the mirrors before - as if you're floating, things hard to discern except from the corner of your eye. As you settle in the familiar sensation, you realize you aren't alone -

because the rest of the city's population has come with you, too.

More information will be on the post itself, so hang tight! Don't worry about this interfering with any plans you might've had for the last part of the month either; characters will wake up in the late morning of the 23rd, not feeling refreshed at all, and the festivities of Litha will wind down in silence.

Brief: Former student council president, Persona summoner, and corporate heiress, Mitsuru refuses to let a yank across dimensions and getting turned into a monster throw her off balance.

Event Plans:
She'll be helping to organize festival set up and prep! During the actual festival, she'll probably observe from a distance. Maybe settle down with a good book in one of the rose gardens or similar, and watch the fireworks. She's more interested in a job well done, than anything else, so she might need people to yank her into the actual party and be reminded to actually enjoy herself. Also she won't be ingesting any love potions.
General Plans:
As discussed on plurk, I want her to move into a big new mansion with the other P3 people! And hang up a sign on that mansion with "Vacancies Available" written on it!
I'm also having her hang onto the belief that she's just a very specialized witch when it comes with water, and have her even go to witch classes on and off and write notes on the process... Even if she's frustrated by only being able to command water.
Her monster transformations are very low key this month; just hints of symptoms that'll come into full force later on.
I've also got her going on the rumors quest to investigate the cave!
Other: E3 is next week. I may be distracted by that, as a head's up. I'll be trying to get a general log for Mitsuru up as well!

Elliot will continue practicing water magic with her. At first he wouldn't notice anything of it since water is his specialty, but eventually he might find it a little strange that those are the only spells she can do.

Yeah! I want to slowly build it up that Mitsuru's ideas on her role aren't quite right, and it's really fun playing her as being in full denial/convinced of the wrong thing right now.

The fact that everyone else can likely branch out to other magic schools likely rubs salt in the wounds for her. I want to include an option for magic practice in her catch all log, which is hopefully going up soonish.

Oh yeah, totally! It's fun watching her trying to process that and live through denial. It's okay Mitsuru, Elliot will accept you even after you turn out to be a monster.

this is more general for sure (esp since rei's transformations are more low key this month as well), but i def want cr with mitsuru in the future as a fellow naga!! rei's getting hypnotism in lieu of water magic, but he'll be sharing the general naga preference for water, so he may envy her a little bit down the line... not that losing your legs and becoming a snake is something either of them will be excited about, most likely

Confession, I curbed some of the transformation ideas after reading Rei's tracker. I got tons of ideas from that entry! (I also had to struggle with whether she should get marin karin hypnotism, or some nifty elemental stuff.)

I'm hoping to play up her affinity with water as well; have her resting near fountains, be drawn to the harbor and river, that sort of thing.

oh !! i'm glad i was able to be of some help!! i looked over mitsuru's changes before and honestly i'm excited to see them in game!! i love the idea of her water affinity manifesting in those ways tbh - maybe they can end up meeting because they end up in similar water hangout spots? rei's definitely taken a liking to long, warm baths, and that'll extend to other bodies of water as well, especially as he grows more diurnal (since he's nocturnal in canon)

Sorry for the late reply! But I was thinking about that water affinity, since I really like the idea of building CR based on that. p

Particularly with the new event log and the hedge mazes that sometimes lead to water; it's supposed to be a bit of an "oops" moment for people to fall into the harbor or river, but it also might be really appealing for a naga to just jump in. (Even if Mitsuru herself would have a difficult time justifying it later.)

It also might work well during either the full moon OR the festival, depending!

hello!!! i am so, so sorry for just disappearing while we were chatting things out - i ended up going on vacation and came back quite sick for a good while, so i lost a lot of things in my inbox. however!! i am still very interested in cr with mitsuru if you still want rei...!!

i’m thinking of making a post related to rei having some trouble walking (his legs work less often as his muscles get reassigned to Tail Muscles for when his tail starts coming in sept-ish) and also having a little joint log up for him stuck out in the snow because of that - if you’re interested, he and mitsuru might be able to meet that way? if not, i’m def open with bouncing into any plans you might have with her related to the most recent posts/events!
