[ If Mettaton looked like a man to him and not a talking box, he might feel a little more resentment at the fact that they go on dinner dates. He's a box, though, so it's fine. Jean does actually want to see how a box can eat a carrot. He doesn't get much entertainment out of his dreary life so any chance to see something he doesn't usually get to see is more than welcome. Plus, it's nice to go out with people for meals. Again, that's not something he's gotten to do very often given how hectic things have been. Maybe enjoying small, mundane pleasures like that make him boring (he is boring), but the opportunity alone indicates that times are peaceful. ]
