feedback post: may 2019
Because Aefenglom exceeded all expectations this app round - we have a solid 102 players, meaning 102 characters, all in the first month of the game - we've decided to open the opportunity for feedback.
Namely, for us and the game!
We're so grateful to each and every one of you for your excitement and questions, your receptiveness and engagement with us and the game, and are really looking forward to seeing where the game goes from here. It's been an exciting month so far, and we have a lot in store for everyone in the oncoming months.
But we want to hear from you. Aefenglom has an open door policy, and always will, because we want to foster a mod/player relationship that means we can work together to make this game amazing. Whether it's something you'd like to see implemented differently, information you would like clarification on, a mechanic that you have some criticism for - whatever it may be, we're here to listen.
Talking Points:
- • Info posts that you'd like clarification for.
• Discord server; see the midmonth post for details regarding this.
• Bimonthly app rounds. With such a big first round, how would everyone feel about us moving to bimonthly app rounds? This wouldn't start this round, but would start in June - meaning there wouldn't be an app round at the end of June, but there would be one at the end of July.
• Quests. In general, what kind of quests would you like to see more of? How can we improve with these? What's working, and what isn't?
• Plot investigation feedback.
• General feelings on: the game, the timing of posts, and the combination of the CR Meme with the OOC Intro.
• The Test Drive Meme and its setup, and if characters already in the game should be able to post it upcoming ones as well or if it should remain potential characters only. Remember, the TDM is game canon regardless due to its shared dream nature, similar to a normal event!
• And more! Tell us what's on your mind.

<3!
+ I'm absolutely for bimonthly app rounds to give the mods more time/energy and the players more time for their characters to get settled before a whole new batch comes in and/or an event happens.
+ Could we get a bestiary for non-standard, non-Monster creatures that are about? Not a priority, but I know I had considered a peryton as a chimera form and then found out that there are some used as mounts - which doesn't necessarily strike it off the list, but just something that I think would be cool to be aware of. You guys have done some fabulous worldbuilding and I would love to shove more of it into my face, basically!

Bimonthly app rounds might be a good idea depending on how this app round goes? If there are a lot of apps then maybe make it bimonthly, but if it turns out the bulk of the game is already here then letting others trickle in every month wouldn't be such a bad thing! I'm kind of expecting a lot more apps, though.
I think TDMs should only let potential characters actually top level, but let all players in the game tag in and get involved.

-bimonthly app rounds would make a lot of sense! even if the app cycle slows down, it would give the game a month focused on, like, the full moon and a month focused on the newbies and that might be a good idea
-re: quests, I feel like there needs to be something that directs our attention to the quests? because straight up I didn't know there were quests until I saw people mentioning them and tracked down the link idr where and by the time I found them it felt like everyone else had yoinked them. maybe a post at the start of the month/full moon in one of the comms?
-I think, since the TDM is game canon, it's cool if current characters top level provided folks don't go overboard (which I doubt they will but). if it's meant to be a mini-event type thing, it doesn't make sense for it to be limited to potentials.

As said before, I think you're doing a fantastic job, and I'm having a blast in this game. It's clear that a lot of thought and love was put into it, and it really shows. Thanks mods for creating a fun place to play, and for all of the hard work you have and continue to put in!

I'm indifferent to a discord server, since I tend to not use game wide servers for RP. I have no strong feelings either way, but I do find separate channels for mod updates and such to be easier to find via discord than Plurk's layout, so I also see the appeal for a server if purely for having an easier time accessing OOC information if I don't check the OOC comm manually.
I think bimonthly app rounds wouldn't be a bad idea. I've found that there's a lot of modwork being put into the game via worldbuilding and just that the mod presence has been pretty noticeable. I feel like it would be good for the mods not to burn themselves out trying to maintain a monthly app round and growing playerbase.
I think that CR Meme and OOC Intro might be better separate in the future. It worked fine as the first round because everyone was new, but I do worry about combining them in the future because it may become difficult to welcome newer players with old guard and newer blood mixing together while also trying to build CR. My worry is that new players may get inadvertently shunned or not get a proper welcome.
I think TDMs should generally be for potential characters only. Similarly to the CR Meme/OOC Intro mix; I think it might cause issue for older characters to be able to top-level when TDM should be used for newer players and garnering interests for potentials.
Other:
This doesn't need to be put in immediately. Someone already mentioned a bestiary, but I'd also like to have a fauna and flora page when you can manage. It would be helpful, especially given the amount of quests that might take people out of the city, to know what's available. Knowing what's common and what's more uncommon, and what possible effects they have (that can be used for apothecary/food/etc) would be great.
Again, whenever mods can manage, perhaps more detailed information on magic and its limits. There's a lot of things that I'd love to know more about how magic works and what it can do that I feel like the Coven page doesn't offer A very general idea was given, but I can't say that I feel completely informed either. Since I play someone from a canon where magic can do literally anything from cleaning to complex spells, I sometimes am wondering what exactly can be done. There's a lot of specifics that I'd like to accomplish in particular, but a general expansion on information on magic would be great. Like what could typically be found in textbooks/through learning/lessons and such. I think I could personally ask this, but perhaps a more accessible expansion for everyone would do well, since I think eventually a lot of people who are playing Witches will like to really expand their character's knowledge.

but especially as someone playing a witch, knowing more types of spells than one or two examples is pretty important. i'd also like to know things like what doing magic feels like, what magic build-up and general release is like, and so forth would be very lovely. something for witches similar to the pages that monsters get would be helpful i think for everyone. i admit i'm kinda glossing over the witch aspects of things right now without it.

-I'm fine with a discord server, no real opinion one way or the other. I do participate in them when they exist, but I'm also okay if they don't.
-Bimonthly app rounds works for me! I think it gives newbies more time to settle in.
-I think I want to sort of work on quests more before I have more solid opinions? So far I'm liking how we can ask for more information and sign up for whatever, but I do agree limits on them would be perfectly fine!
-I haven't done any plot investigation yet though I intend to...I...forgot that page existed...
-I like the game/posts/CR+OOC so far! We're cool.
-I think for the TDM, I could go either way. If they're canon and treated more like in-game events, then I think it makes sense to let in-game characters post to them - but I also can see how that might be awkward for new characters and get their top levels buried, you know?

- Bimonthly app round - Yes. - We can then focus less on intros and more on plot stuff.
- I enjoy the game so far.
I don't have to much input to be honest but I adore this game so far and I am excited for more.

> Bimonthly apps: I think they're a good idea, especially if the game keeps getting a large influx of apps. Two months seems like a good amount of time to let everyone settle in properly.
> TDM: I think it really depends on how important these events will play into the main plot (whenever they come up); if it's going to end up being incredibly important then I think it only makes sense to let everyone continue to top level. If it's... only sort of important? If nothing major will happen in the TDMs themselves, I guess, then it would probably be better for new and potential characters only to top level, and current players can still have the opportunity to tag in anyway.
> General: This is my first game on Dreamwidth and I'm still trying to familiarize myself with a lot of terminology and how games are generally run here (coming from Tumblr RP in comparison), so I don't have a lot of feedback or suggestions right now, but I did want to say that it's been an absolute blast so far. My friend Pom has been trying to get me into DWRP for a while now and she showed me the premise for this game in particular and I was totally sold from the start, and it ended up being the entire reason I finally came over. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for making this so fun, but especially the mods for putting all of this together and sharing this world with all of us - I think you're doing great, and I'm looking forward to seeing more in the future!

+ Admittedly I have not been able to look super closely at quest stuff yet (because my schedule is hell), so this might be redundant but, sciencey/research based quests for nerds who are spooked about leaving the city are the sort of thing I'd like to throw my character at, personally.
+ Re: Bimonthly app rounds, I'm pro whatever makes it easiest for the mod team, honestly. Which is probably not a helpful contribution sorry, I just, MODDING IS HARD AND I WANT YOU GUYS TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES,
+ I would love if there were a way for established characters to participate in TDM prompts. I always find tagging potential newbies to be a fun way to entice new players and establish potential new CR, and I have some friends who are interested in joining who I'd like to tag to help them get a feel for the game before committing to apping.
+ I am having a super lovely time so far, keep up the good work!

-I would be fine with bimonthly apps, like that it gives us more time to settle in before theres new people
-I like being able to interact with the TDM, so we can get a head start with interacting with the newbies!
-game so far has been lovely, and I have been really enjoying myself

• A Discord server would be cool!
• Bimonthly app rounds makes sense to me.
• Quests. I like the quests so far. I would be interested in seeing more peeking outside the city and spreading around the city quests, maybe?
• I'm looking forward to getting involved in more plot investigation stuff!
• General feelings on: So far, I love the game, and the timing of posts seems cool. I do think the CR Meme with the OOC Intro should be separate.
• I think The Test Drive Meme top levels should be for new characters, but current ones should be allowed to tag in as they like.

• I'd be down for bimonthly app rounds to help pacing, but whatever is easiest for you guys!
• If the TDM is going to be the same premise as before, I think it's better if only new/potential characters top-level while established ones can tag around. Especially with how many players we already have, I'd worry about potential appers getting buried in a flood of top-levels from characters already in-game!
• Combining the CR meme and OOC intro was fine in the first round since we were all new, but I think in the future they should be separated, again to prevent newbies getting lost in the top-levels of established players.
• +1 on more info about the flora/fauna of the world!
It's obvious you guys are really enthusiastic and I'm having a lot of fun so far! Thank you for your hard work. ♥

Bimonthly app rounds: I think this is probably a good idea considering the level of mod involvement so far. I would hate to see the game balloon out with monthly app rounds and limit how much you guys could do. I'd even go so far as to suggest implementing a total-game character cap based on what you guys thought you could handle, honestly, but that's a whole other bullet point.
Quests: I'm biased but I definitely lean toward the quests that involve going out past the wall for whatever tasks. I'm personally really into the action/exploration angle. As far as limitations for limited-spot quests, I think what you suggested sounds perfectly fair!
Test drive memes: I think this depends on what the test drives are going to entail in the future. If they're going to be mini-events, lighter prompts, if they're going to always be things that are game-canon, etc. Personally, I was in a game a while back that did things a way I thought was pretty fair: the TDMs were always game canon, like mini-events. The test drive post itself was only open to potential characters top-leveling, but characters in game were encouraged to take the prompts from the TDM and use them in their own logs and network posts on the comms as well as tagging the potential characters' top levels. Maybe something like that? It would still allow visibility for potentials on the actual TDM and encourage current characters to tag them, but still allows for current characters to use the prompts with each other as well.
Info posts: Seconding that I'd love a bestiary & plant guide, and more info on on witch magic.
I'm having a great time here guys, for real. The game so far has been a lot of fun!

- indifferent to discord server! i'd join one but probably lurk mostly and mute when not peeking in.
- no opinion on app cycles! whatever you guys feel like you can handle reasonably.
- quests i think that give flavour like lore/worldbuilding (stuff like the flower classes works here too! it gives a better idea of the city and the people here which is really fun) or special magical items or just afford unique chances to do things that won't easily come up otherwise would be most fun. i did enjoy the limited slot quest too. it was fun!
- the timing of posts seems good so far! ooc and cr meme should be separate next time i think. it worked fine this time since we're all new but next time it might get busy, so newbies deserve their own little spotlight.
- similarly, only new players should be able to top level on tdms. i think they deserve all the limelight on tdms.
i'm enjoying the game! thank you very much, mods.

- Bimonthly apps... even if it makes sense from a logistical standpoint, as a player I don't like this idea much. If I get really hype to join a game, my interest starts to wane after about two weeks. I know I don't speak for everyone, but if I happen to have a cool character idea, having to wait for up to like a month and a half to apply at a game for it would just kill that initial 'cool idea' momentum.
Since this game is plot- and NPC-heavy I hesitate to say no outright though. I guess you can always see how it goes after trying it?? But I am concerned that it would end up leaving you guys with far less applications coming in.

--Bimonthly app rounds seem like a good idea. As other people have said, it helps characters to settle in before a new influx of people arrive, and will hopefully help with the workload for the mod team!
-- TDM I think keeping top levels reserved for newbies only is probably the best way to go, to ensure they don't get drowned out. But for in-game players to obviously be allowed to interact with them!
-- Quests I've yet to form an opinion of them yet because my character is still just struggling to come to terms with being in a new world! But exploration types would be fun for later. A good balance between the types of quests that may involve physical danger and those that don't, for characters who both are and are not capable of combat! Anything that adds to the worldbuilding/lore of the world would be fun.
And just a note to say I really love the game so far, and all the attention to detail that has gone into it!

-I'm personally not in favor of a game Discord, considering the game's size. From my past experience, even in smaller groups things get derailed a lot and people talked over. Still, as long as game updates and information isn't solely distributed through the server, having one probably wouldn't hurt.
-Bimonthly app rounds seem like they'd be fine.
-I didn't notice the arrows on the quests at first and missed the Wilde and High Risk stuff for a while, haha. In a game this size, 5 slots for one high risk quest like that seems very small. More information about the Outer City would be nice, especially if there's going to be more quests like Out of the City.
-Since the full moons are important for monsters and it's everyone's first go at things, I was hoping to have at least a line or two about that during the mid-month log, since it's only a few days later. Just a little prompt or reminder about the effects or something, even though no one's full-shifting yet.
-Not playing a witch, but if I were, a little something about what classes/exercises are like or a little more guidance with the spells would be cool!
-New player toplevels for the TDM, I think.
Overall, the game has a lot of moving parts. Events, NPC interactions, quests, plot investigations, etc. on top of a lot of information in various places. I'm really gigging the lore and flavor of it all, but things might need to be streamlined a little (or consolidated) for sanity's sake. Keeping all of that up to date sounds like a huge potential for burnout. Thanks for your effort!

Bimonthly app rounds: That'd probably be a good idea with how big of a presence the TDM is. It might get tiring if it happens every month along with a new app round. Especially if you are planning on doing two event logs a month, even if one is more lowkey.
General feedback: It's rad so far. You guys are putting in a ton of effort. I'd want to play for longer before I critique anything - if anything I would encourage you to find some help for list things (like quests and stuff that don't require mod info) to take some of the burden off of yourself. That's not because you're doing bad though, it's just because you are handling a lot of work and could probably use the break in the future.

- With the amount of players in the game there is a risk of Discord channel being too large and too fast for at least some players. Personaly I'm not really into Discord after it forced me to confirm my IP each time I logged in.
+ Bi-monthly app rounds give both players and mods time to plot, find new ideas, and get creative with the setting.
+- Quests are interesting, and give a nice amount of hooks. Both sol and plot ones offer a good variety of choices as well as ideas for the setting.
- However I'm disappointed with the amount of slots for limited Wilder quest, since when I wanted to secure a slot on the second day all were already gone. As it's something my character would immediately do if given the chance I've been very disappointed
+ TDM only for top-levels of potential characters while thos already in game can use those prompts for logs and/or posts. This way potential players won't feel ignored in favor of established cr
• So far I have no opinion about plot investigation, it's too soon to form one.
• I would love more information about the world - flora and fauna, what kind of food/drink is available (do they have coffee, or chicory coffee? is chocolate/cocoa available?), same with weapons and other supplies - what kind of supplies are imported to the city, the shortages and so on.

+ I really really really would love a discord server. I don't look at plurk as often as I do with discord, so it'd be nice to have somewhere I can jump into easily, especially on mobile.
+ Bimonthly app rounds, from a player stand point, are very manageable. I think it's kind of hard to get into a game that has apps and new people each month, mostly because it's SO many people, especially when the game is as amazing as this one!
+ I like the quests that we had in may! As some feedback though, the information can be a lot on the quests and event. It's hard for me to read long streams of texts in one go and I get a little overwhelmed! I'm not sure if it's just me and how I interpret information, but it'd be super helpful to have a little snapshot or summary for those that have a hard time with that!
+ Thank you guys for making such a wonderful place! I really anxious about joining another game with this type of setting and you guys have made it fun and encouraging! I honestly can't even express how happy and thankful I am!
