CR & PLOTTING: NOVEMBER
Last month, unfortunately, the anti-Monster radicals of Dorchacht continued to prove a threat to harmony in Aefenglom when a spy infiltrated the city and obtained local help in producing a mist that caused feral behavior and unusual changes in the citizens. Groups of Mirrorbound put a stop to it and brought in the culprits to the Coven, while more helped keep order in the city. A tentative peace returned just in time for Samuin and the traditional fireworks shows to light up the night skies.
Noveuer shapes up to be calmer, despite heavy rains and a chill in the air that threatens snow. Clean-up continues throughout the city from the Incident last month and from the usual Samuin tradition of getting rid of old junk. While a tension remains palpable in most neighborhoods, and anti-Monster and anti-Mirrorbound sentiment left over from the mist incident hangs over wealthier and predominantly human districts like a dark cloud, the Coven is taking a different attitude. New year, new you, and new Bonds with others, seems to be the theme. Many Mirrorbound still have not found their right Bonded yet, which leads to...
Masquerade
A masquerade ball, organized by Louis (
At the door, enchanted masks will be handed out, though wearing them is optional. The enchantment will allow for total anonymity; while wearing one, other characters will not be able to see past it or recall any of the mask-wearer's distinctive features (including horns, wings, scales, etc.), only their attire, or their mask itself. Memories of encounters with mask-wearing individuals will be a little warm and hazy on the wearer's identity.
Food, drink, and softly enchanted mood music will set things up for a lovely evening of mingling. And mingling is the aim here - a vessel will be set up among the decor, where characters can write their name on a slip of paper and put it into the vessel. In return, a name (or a description of a mask, if the character is choosing to be anonymous) on a slip of paper will pop out! The enchantment lightly compels the two characters to seek each other out and dance, or just converse, for about the length of a song. After that, the spell will dissipate. Characters may put their name into the vessel as many times as they wish, to find more dance or conversation partners. Wallflowers beware, though! This magic is unpredictable, and may even spit out the names of those who haven't put them into the vessel! It's alright, though, you're here to meet new friends, aren't you?
At the end of the night, characters will be invited to don glowing trinkets, jewelry, or accessories and get a little wild. Said trinkets will continue to glow for about a month after the party, and can be taken home as a memento, or offered to a potential Bondmate as a gift!
So don your finery, have fun, and dance the night away, Mirrorbound!
Mirror Mix-Up
Aefenglom can't make it a full month without a little more magical mayhem, though. Fortunately, this time around, it's only a baffling sort of mayhem. On the night of the 20th, as the bells ring for 3 AM, the night cleaner at the Looking-Glass House finds himself surprised when things come through the mirrors instead of people, a mess of trinkets scattering haphazardly across the floor, pets scurrying about unhappy with their current predicaments. A little panicked, he waits for more Mirrorbound to come through, but none do.
Eventually, with the help of Nessie and her clipboard-bearing Witch assistant, they figure out that these are items and pets that belong to the current Mirrorbound already within the city. How strange! Of course, it's made quite the mess, so she puts out an announcement that they should all come pick up their things, please, and do be quick about it.
Unfortunately, they're just making guesses at what belongs to whom.
November's mod event is Mirror Mix-Up, an item regain treat for the holidays! On the night of the 20th, one item from home will come through each character's mirror. This can be a sentimental object, something frivolous like a new outfit in their home style, a treasured weapon, or even a pet/familiar! There are only a few stipulations:
- Items must be reasonably sized, meaning a regular human with no enhancements could feasibly pick it up. This applies to pets/familiars as well. Items or pets may be shrunk down if the thing you had in mind doesn't quite fit the restriction.
- Items follow the same rules as inventory items upon arrival. Anything magical will lose its magic and have to be re-enchanted. You'll have to find some new way to charge tech devices, etc.
- Items can be from any canon point, past, present, or future.
- Items must generally belong to your character. Items that have no stated owner are fine, but Character A can't get Character B's signature weapon.
- One item per character. If multiple small items can reasonably be called a set, they can count as one item. Example: a chess board and chess pieces, or a journal and pen.
- If you would prefer your character not receive an item during this event, that's fine too - the mirrors work in mysterious ways.
Witches of the Coven will be handing these items and pets/familiars out based on their best guesses - maybe your character gets lucky and gets their item right away, or maybe someone else gets it while they get another person's item. You can plot out your own mix-ups, or you can sign up for a random mix-up! Use the form below to sign up before November 13th. Randomization assignments will handed out on that day to allow time to plot before the event log goes up.
Items must eventually find their way to their original owner unless explicitly plotted out with said item's owner. Enjoy!

Item: His violin from home, complete with case and bow. Because it's one of an infinite series of guilt-gifts from Momiji's dad, it's very nice. It looks about like so and, though it's relatively new, anyone in the know about these things will recognize that it's also pretty masterfully handcrafted.

Item: A handheld Dracon beam made for Hork-Bajir. There's no real official art and in the TV series these were flashlights, so - let's say it resembles this, with a dial for settings, and is nearly two feet long, kinda heavy and ungainly for non Hork-Bajir. Someone with small hands may be barely able to shoot with it.
It's banged up and the dial is stuck so only one of the lowest settings, equivalent to 'stun', works. It fires a thick red beam that can be continuous or a short bolt depending on how long you hold the trigger. A limb hit by this goes clumsy and underresponsive for several minutes. Hit someone in the chest or head and they'll drop to the floor twitching. It feels like taking a serious burn and will punch through clothing or singe feathers/fur/etc, but the actual damage to a human-type body is minimal, first-degree-burn level. Discoloration and tenderness.
The larger someone is the less it works on them, but conversely it could kill a small enough animal. It also TSEEWs real loudly and there's only so much juice.

Item: A small family photo of a younger Rean, an older man and an older woman, and a small girl. The photo exudes warmth, and judging by the fingerprints on the frame, it gets picked up and looked at quite frequently.
