November Mirrorbound Council Post

Welcome to the Mirrorbound Council discussion post for the month of November! This is the space to discuss IC concerns from your characters that can be brought to Parliament by members of the Mirrorbound Council. Here are some quick facts!

• Membership in the Mirrorbound Council is open, so if your character is the type to get involved, you're more than welcome to sign up here.
• More information on the Council's history, current members, and motions can be found here.
• Each motion must be cosigned by 3 Council members.
• Each council member can only cosign 1 motion per month.
• As a result, there may be months where not all motions can be raised. In that case, motions will be brought to Parliament in the order of greatest IC support to least IC support.
• To suggest an IC motion, please post to the most appropriate heading below. Make sure to list the name of the character who would suggest it so they get credit!
• To support an IC motion, comment to the motion with either "+1" or some other indication of your character's support. There's no limit on how many motions each character can support, so be sure to check the whole post!
• All characters can suggest and support motions ICly — not just Council members! Consider this post an OOC representation of an open-forum style discussion open to all Mirrorbound. The goal is to get as many people involved as possible, both ICly and OOCly, so don't hesitate to chime in!
• The deadline to submit motions is November 15th. After submissions close, Council members will attach their names to motions and submit them to the mod team by November 25th.
• All OOC ideas and suggestions are welcome as well, so please hit us up!

OCTOBER

The motion brought forward about educating orphans passed! (And by a pretty great margin. Good work, team!) There are some old rich ladies who would like to have tea with the Mirrorbound that will impact funding. Please notify Crystal (hi, that's me!) if your character will schmooze with the old women or not so there's a sense of how much funding is available (or not available). This will help set up opportunities for Mirrorbound to start working toward getting the orphanage ready and equipped for educating the youths!

Initially brought up in August, Ozymandias began speculating that making changes to the Residential District may be a good place to improve living conditions within the city by addressing the overcrowding issue due to Parliament's previous hesitation to help the Outer City. (More information on that can be found here!) This has since spawned two discussions:

For the Residential District, Edelgard seems to be of a similar mind of how to go about addressing the overcrowding issue by building up instead of out. More information available here.

For the Outer City, there was a large discussion about the limitations and barriers to effectively addressing the needs of that part of the population. Some of this was purely ooc and player obtained information, but some of the discussion is a bit handwavey communication between characters. Those involved so far (in addition to the a-Pharaoh-mentioned character at the top of this) were Jin Guangyao, Leslie, Near, and Heralia. It is a lot to summarize briefly, so it is encouraged to read the thread for more details, but to provide the broad strokes: some ideas were generated about potential quests to improve relations between the Mirrorbound and the Outer City; there was a brief discussion about how to continue making in-roads with Parliament for both the Outer City and Residential District, including some less than savory ways (i.e. stabbing with plausible deniability) involved; it was confirmed that Parliament functions primarily on nepotism; and there were some ideas kicked around about how to actually provide more protection to the Outer City. Although only brought up briefly before most were distracted by talking about what to do for the Outer City, Jin Guangyao did bring up the idea of developing more improved relations with the Underground, primarily through the Monster Mirrorbound. Top-comment here is what is most relevant.

More seriously, Everett will insist on charming the old ladies into solid funding. He could host a private evening at DiplomaTea for them or bring out his unnique blends and flower arrangements to them as gifts.

He'll also have Viren along with him! Handsome, distinguished older gentlemen squad! Everett's the charisma buffer and Viren on hand for actual negotiations. Others are obviously welcome to go along or join at Tea Shop.

But more seriously, I have received a few PMs from folks of them planning on having them attend tea time (multiple times if needed) though not everyone intended on threading it out and were okay with handwaving. I was going to post later and ask if folks wanted a general log or handle it on their own (or both, there's no rules here, baybeeee). So, all that to say, totally encourage this if folks would be interested in a private event and you're down to have them join!

I'd be happy to handwave an event hosted at DiplomaTea! Everybody on the council who is interested would be welcome to take their time to schmooze, if they like that for a setting.

People would also be welcome to use my DiplomaTea post as the setting for threads, if they plan to do so. OR if someone wanted to do post, they're welcome to their spin on the setting, Everett would be open to it.

I don't personally have the time to write up an event/post, but Everett would be doing his part in handwave land with Viren (and maybe Myr!)

I would really like to thread something (though I'm content to handwave if that's the consensus) since L is fairly invested in the orphans! I'd love to use Diplomatea for a setting, an in the next few days I can get a post up if others are interested.

Oh Diplomatea would be a great setting. I already told Crystal, but Heralia is going to schmooze and milk as much money out of the ladies as possible, so she's down for whatever setting would be most conducive for that!

(Also she's going to angle to figure out where their stances are on other things, and figure out weaknesses from there that she can exploit. You know, if other people want to join her in figuring out how many of these little old ladies they can overthrow or manipulate onto their side later.)

I definitely encourage you putting something up if you'd like to thread something out. Whether it's at Diplomatea or not because I get the impression this doesn't have to be a one-time event either since there are a lot of Mirrorbound. :)

Whatever settings work best for folks to schmooze, they should have at imo.

I'm definitely up for a thread or two. Who knows how to gracefully serve tea and make nice small talk? This guy!

Yay! I've actually written a starting post for mingling purposes, which I did toss up impulsively yesterday but ultimately decided to wait to post, since it's forward-dated to the morning after the masquerade. So on Sunday November 9, there will be a post! And a lot of people will probably be hungover, so there's a challenge aspect to it all.

I'm assuming it's cool for people to NPC the old ladies to a certain extent! Since it would be hard to thread otherwise, haha.

Nice, that's awesome news! Keep an eye out on November 9 for the post to go up; it's already written and waiting patiently in a word doc, I just want to wait for masquerade to go up and get underway before it's live, since it's ICly the morning after. :)

Yeah, I don't think mods are too fussy about that. But like I said, if you have any questions, they don't mind answering them ime!

I did want to revisit the topic of quests for the outer city. Did anyone else have any other ideas? I am thinking it could be a good idea to start with either the clinics or a patrol of some kind to start, and then add others in over time (while maybe removing some after a while). Thoughts?
