July Mirrorbound Council Post

Welcome to the Mirrorbound Council discussion post for the month of July! This is the space to discuss IC concerns from your characters that can be brought to Parliament by members of the Mirrorbound Council. Here are some quick facts!

• Membership in the Mirrorbound Council is open, so if your character is the type to get involved, you're more than welcome to sign up here.
• More information on the Council's history, current members, and motions can be found here.
• Each motion must be cosigned by 3 Council members.
• Each council member can only cosign 1 motion per month.
• As a result, there may be months where not all motions can be raised. In that case, motions will be brought to Parliament in the order of greatest IC support to least IC support.
• To suggest an IC motion, please post to the most appropriate heading below. Make sure to list the name of the character who would suggest it so they get credit!
• To support an IC motion, comment to the motion with either "+1" or some other indication of your character's support. There's no limit on how many motions each character can support, so be sure to check the whole post!
• All characters can suggest and support motions ICly — not just Council members! Consider this post an OOC representation of an open-forum style discussion open to all Mirrorbound. The goal is to get as many people involved as possible, both ICly and OOCly, so don't hesitate to chime in!
• The deadline to submit motions is July 15th. After submissions close, Council members will attach their names to motions and submit them to the mod team by July 25th.
• All OOC ideas and suggestions are welcome as well, so please hit us up!

I know it was mentioned in passing last month, but it would be great to have some IC get-togethers planned. The idea of a bimonthly dinner is still good, I think -- possibly it could even be extended to people interested in politics/council things who haven't joined yet?

NGL I'm just hungry for a little political threading, and I feel like sometimes it's easier to come up with motion ideas during IC discussion, you know?

we should definitely do this! i know in the last month's post there was some discussion of doing some kind of celebration log if the garden motion passed, but we don't know if that did or not yet and regardless i think an ic log should go up this month.

do you have any ideas about what you'd like to see in those bimonthly dinners? i struggle a little bit with ideas for mingle logs so i'd be curious about other people's ideas.

I love the idea and I've been hoping we'd have an opportunity for more mingling with the Council members. I feel like celebrating the outcome of the garden would definitely be a good thought and more than just the Council could be invited for sure. But if the garden doesn't pass, I can definitely offer Ozy sending out invites to the Council members and having a smaller, more private affair to start and we can build from there. I think given that it won't be coming from a celebratory stance, it would make sense for it to be a bit more limited and smaller in scale, but I'm open to having it be more open if folks are more on board with that.

And then I think moving forward, there can be a balance struck between smaller events limited to just Council members (and/or their +1s/2s/3s) and larger events meant for anybody to attend. (We would probably need to coordinate the latter esp with the modteam though just to be sure we're working around metaplot.) Events could vary anywhere from like the masquerade where it's just a party for people to relax and have fun to something with a little more pointed purpose behind it like getting opinions/requests from the Mirrorbound (while still having Fun!) or fundraising, etc. I'd be down for creating competitions where characters could use their monster skills or magic (or other talents!) to win Council-funded prizes.

all of this sounds extremely good and imho, can help keep events going on in the game. perhaps tie into mod events as well.

i know i would super, super love to see this, especially as someone with a character who'd love to get involved in the politics before he actually jumps feet-first into trying to join the council. great idea, dude!!

as for what the dinners could entail, it might be fun to have it set up like speed-dating but for opinions. that could either be just one of the events, or a recurring thing. sorta' like debate club, but a sharing of thoughts/views where people can jot down what ideas they've gotten from visiting others.🥰

it'd be like free brainstorming for upcoming motions!

Along the lines of the speed-dating opinions idea, could be that each table is set up to have people talk about a particular area like the ones we have outlined here for submitting ideas. Then people have the opportunity to hit up every area that the Council is attempting to address.

yes, absolutely! also, if there are only a couple of motions, there could be one table for all other abandoned areas (or otherwise just not touched on yet) to encourage more participation from the council members while simultaneously get the mirrorbound peasantry involved... heh

commenting here to note that 1) this is a very good idea re: the speed d(eb)ating, and 2) if we do want to set such a gathering this month it's probably going to be best set between the 7th and the 18th, since after the 18th... aefenglom will Literally Be On Fire. which isn't festive.

I AGREE 100%, since we won't have intro logs for a bit now that the cap's been implemented, maybe earlier within those dates so everyone's the most comfortable. easy to head into the month and get lots of cute debating in for ac!!

I love all of this, and the timelines work for me too.

With the community garden motion being passed, we have been talking about doing something a little celebratory for it!! The challenge, however, is that one of the month's events most definitely involves something that can and will likely destroy plant life. So this may, understandably, not be the best time for something like that. So, the way I see it, there is kinda two options:

1) Put off the mingle for the community garden for next month when hopefully things won't be horrendously on fire.

2) Do the mingle this month and deal with the consequences.

So, I'd like to turn it over to as many people as possible to figure out what we'd like to do! Please sound off if you have any preferences or alternative ideas.

Also, this is more geared towards characters that are on the council, but if #1 seems to be the most popular, as I mentioned in another thread above, I would be okay with Ozymandias running a smaller affair for council members (think dinner + drinks at his mansion with +1/2/3s) in place of a larger event. If your character is on the council, let me know if you'd be interested in that.

Lastly, please let me know if you have any interest in working on this on an ooc level! I'm cool with whatever level of involvement you want with this whether it be just spitballing ideas or helping to write something up.

i vote for 1! please let us not kill the garden immediate.

Another OOC factor is the massive app round that just finished and possible thread overload going on for folks. I'm good either way, although I think I lean towards next month (Option 1) now personally.

Also if you need help with writing up some starter-y things based on whatever discussion, I'd be down!

I really like the idea of a smaller function in the meantime, considering the huge app round that just happened and the risk to the plant life! Everyone happy about the community garden motion passing would understand the need to scale down things ICly. On a selfish and personal note, my character's been more of a recluse than usual lately due to horrible things happening to him, and so a smaller function would be more likely to draw him out to mingle than a huge soirée.

Also voting for option 1 with the potential for a smaller mingle!

I LOVE DRAMA.... so I'd LOVE to go for 2, but let's give us a break. Option 1!

and my vote's also for #1, predictably!! protect the plant life...

My vote would be for #1, mostly due to my personal tag load being a bit much, right now! But I would take a look in if it was this month, too. Very interested in more council member CR!

I'm also voting for 1, when things are less likely to be hectic. Also put me down for helping- whether it's writing up something or laying on any ideas! I'd like to get this guy more involved in the council both IC and OOC wise!

Option 1, please! I don't exist this month and would definitely love to get in on this ROFL. (And let us actually not burn down the garden right away.)
