How do you know this isn't about hubris? I don't think these people live down here for fun. It's an evolutionary niche, but not one that sentient species would volunteer for. Nobody wants to be the blind cave fish. Maybe all of this is some kind of punishment for previous misdeeds. Minos-level douchery.

[A beat. Fingers drumming on his knees.]

. . . Wasn't everybody the son of Zeus, though? I feel like basically everybody was the son of Zeus.
