Try isn't really the right word at all, but he can see the acceptance in Lan Xichen's face at last. Regained some measure of trust -- but with the happiness he should feel on seeing that smile marred by still turbulent emotions.

It would be nice if some alternate existence offered a reprieve from the ills of society, but Jin Guangyao is the least naive of the brotherly trio. Human nature -- and that of monsters, perhaps -- is always the same, and he doesn't truly believe it is full of people as good as Lan Xichen thinks. But who can say what he will see when this dream ends?

He loosens his grip on his brother's robes, smiling anyway. "Thank you," he replies softly. "I know that you will. If the others you spoke of are even only half as kind as you, I think it will more than I deserve."
