[This coaxes back the magnitude of Itachi's attention, which until this moment had split itself in the directions where civilian foot traffic was most likely to stream through. Silence lapses at the command — because it is one, carefully crafted to be sharp and direct.

When had Sasuke learned to maneuver around his words? Was it a capability his younger brother had always nurtured, only their interactions were kept so limited (and colored so violently red) he failed to notice? Or... instead, had it evolved in his absence, with age and maturity?

He can't recall the last real conversation they ever had, as brothers. Perhaps Sasuke had asked him for help with his training, or wished him goodnight; it feels too far away, too faded. He doesn't know what to say now.

Dark eyes swing back, to where a vendor has noticed their presence and watches them suspiciously, out of earshot yet nonetheless discomforting.]


... I would avoid it. [The same answer, meaning his argument has illogically changed. Itachi frowns.] We should move from here, Sasuke.
