writing this to an english cover of drop pop candy is a weird experience

[When Hubert says it’s hypothetical, Leslie jumps like a child who was listening to a scary story that ended with a loud boo. He said that they didn’t have time to attempt subterfuge, but that was before a lot of thinking about definitions and her memories of Marquess Sperado’s actions against her and the duchess. Since the moment he said “if you were serious about not letting the Fae get away with such behavior,” she was thinking about it as a serious, real suggestion. She doesn’t think she would have ever agreed to that kind of step here, especially because she doesn’t really have a good enough grasp on either slavery or gladiatorial combat to have more than a vague understanding that what is happening there is wrong. But when his hand’s motions drew her eyes to the pouch of iron, she thought about what those other methods of delivery might be, and that’s extremely uncomfortable when she associates secret, underhand actions with the Sperados and firm displays of strength with the Salvatores.

But when it comes to Hubert...she can understand this isn’t the same as Marquess Sperado, as close as their titles may be. Unlike the wholly selfish Marquess Sperado, Marquis Vestra’s thought experiment was directed at stopping an oppression. She doesn’t know if it makes his hypothetical suggestions moral, but she at least doesn’t dislike him for it.

She might not like the idea of the methods, but she also wants to one day become one of the Salvatores, the most important guardians of the empire. Even if she never does anything involving subterfuge in her life, even if she’s not sure if she’ll ever be asked to be one of those guardians, she knows that she will at some point need to be prepared for others doing them to her.

So, clasping her hands in front of her, she bows to him.]

Thank you for explaining it to me, Marquis Vestra. That was very informative.
