CR & PLOTTING: JANUARY

CR & PLOTTING: JANUARY

Last month, a historic blizzard rocked Aefenglom, dumping feet of snow and ice on the city and surrounding areas in volumes none had ever seen before, but worse, the strange flurries on the wind periodically cut out all Witch magic in patches. The storm might have been natural, but the intensity of it and the magic blackouts were discovered to be due to a flock of unruly ice pixies traveling within the storm. They soon moved on, though not without causing rampant mischief first, and allowed for snow to be shoveled and holiday preparations to be made.

With the storm past and a less eventful Modranicht now in the rearview mirror, Aefenglom returns to some semblance of normal, though tensions remain high in the wealthier districts of the city, spurred on by a string of arrests made thanks to Mirrorbound sleuthing. Several of the rich elite were booked in on charges of plotting criminal mischief, unlawful protest, or vandalism, leaving a foul taste in the mouths of many who would see these strangers gone from their city.

Ieuneur begins with a bang as Captain Heuf's ship returns from Dorchacht, bearing the city's new ambassadors, the Circle of Three. The Resistance won, Morgana is driven out presumably to her death, and the Black City is no longer quite so black. With waypoints set up in both Aefenglom and Dorchacht, now unrestricted travel between the two is possible.

RETURN TO DORCHACHT (6th and On)

Bryn, Hilda, and The Dragon, the Circle of Three now in charge of Dorchacht, invite Mirrorbound to visit their city whenever they please, now that instant travel is possible. They've helped Dorchacht quite a bit already, but more hands are always welcome; big changes are still being made, and will continue for quite some time. Transitioning from a brutal dictatorship to a new form of governance is tricky business, and Morgana left scars on Dorchacht that only time and hard work will heal.

Things are not quite so bleak these days. Monsters walk the streets freely and openly, and their minds are their own. Under the Resistance's control, the fog over the city has been removed, the auction blocks that once sold Monsters into slavery have been destroyed, and recruits are hard at work to repair the damage done by the insurgence and the previous regime. Current projects involve scrubbing the control spells from their walls' enchantments, turning the old Coven building into a memorial for their fallen dead and all those hurt by Drummond's horrible endeavors, and showing their citizens a better way to Bond with one another as equals.

Construction abounds as well, building up new structures to replace the old. Some make their first foray into agriculture, to ensure the city will remain fed. Others take up the pen to write new histories that will not be destroyed by a tyrant. A shorter trade route to Dorchacht by sea is currently in the works by traders eager to build new business relations, though not without its share of troubles. Some recruits also try their hand at becoming their city's first Wilders, venturing out to see what lies beyond the walls. Many exciting things are happening, and will continue to happen over the next several months, and Mirrorbound are welcomed into all of it with open arms; the city has not forgotten its heroes from other worlds.

SNATCHED (14th through 21st)

CW: This plot has a general content warning for kidnapping, torture, experimentation, abuse, neglect, and general violence. This is entirely opt-in. The log for Dorchacht and quests are ongoing all month for anyone who wishes to opt out of Snatched.

The situation is a little more tense at home. With a string of arrests of some of the wealthy elite made in December thanks to Mirrorbound assistance, tensions are high in the nicer districts. It doesn't help at all that many refugees have decided, and been allowed, to stay in Aefenglom rather than return to Dorchacht to build their lives. Anti-Monster and anti-Mirrorbound sentiment are reaching new heights in many areas of the city, and it all comes to a head on the 14th.

Multiple fires blaze up seemingly simultaneously around the city on the evening of the 14th, targeting areas frequented by Mirrorbound and Dorchacht refugees specifically. Homes in the Haven and the refugees' neighborhoods are common targets (though we leave it up to players to decide if their characters' homes and businesses are hit and what kind of damage the attacks may do). No doubt many will act quickly to put out the fires, including the Coven, who will be there to assist with Witches specializing in water magic, but once they all die down, it will become noticeable that friends and loved ones have gone missing.

Those missing will be taken by certain members of Aefenglom's elite, eager to get back at those they feel have sullied the city, and whisked away to holding cells. A spell will dampen their Bonds to ensure that Bonded cannot find them, and they will not have access to their Watches or other belongings. Witches will be drugged to suppress their magic, while Monsters will be muzzled and chained, and all will be subject to horrible treatment and torture. It'll be up to Mirrorbound, with some assistance from friends at the Coven to find and rescue them.

This month's event back in Aefenglom is a kidnapping plot run jointly by Kim, our Newt Scamander player, and the mod team. Brewing tensions finally bubble over into terror as some of Aefenglom's elite take it upon themselves to rid their city of refugees, Mirrorbound, and Monsters alike. This event will run in two parts, the first posted on the 14th and dealing with the fires, kidnappings, investigation, and the torments the kidnapped victims will suffer at the hands of some very angry humans. The second part will be posted on the 21st and cover the rescue and assault on the perpetrators, along with the aftermath. This plot is opt-in! Characters may be signed up as kidnap victims, investigators, to be on the rescue team, or to be on the strike team that will lead the assault. Medics will also be necessary, but can be on either team, or only performing medical care. A small group of kidnap victims will also be chosen to escape and help push the plot to resolution.

Kidnap victims, please note! If you sign up for this, you are agreeing to have your character suffer through or witness various forms of torture and experimentation, though the specifics will be left up to each individual player to play whatever they're comfortable with. Threads should all be marked with content warnings. It will not be a good time, regardless, and there will be a span of about six IC days where they can only interact with other kidnap victims.

Sign ups will be below! There are no limits to any of the teams, though we may have to shuffle people into different investigation groups than initially signed up for if the numbers are drastically uneven. Only a small group will be chosen from the kidnap victims to escape and direct the rescue and assault teams to their location, 3-6 depending on sign ups, chosen by RNG if necessary. In the aftermath, there will be significant arrests made, public trials, and maybe even a sense of shame that brings the rest of the city to a kinder place.
